Former Bad Ass

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Since you guys are slacking the same as the dailies, I am opening both.  Ha.

Some run tonight.  Woke up with a migraine, so for now I'm hurting.

        Morning D & all.

I think  I'm going to yoga tonight and then 4 on the TM indoors. Feels like 15 outside this morning.

        on my way to badass

Good Morning Penguins! We're having a 36 hour snow storm here. Then we get really cold temps.

Still waiting for the perfect race picture. 5K PR-33:52 , 10K PR 1:11:16, First HM 2:42:28

Morning all, I got in 6.5 this morning.  Was hoping to make it to seven, but the youngest did not sleep great last night, so I got a late start.  Interviewing three candidates at work today to hopefully hire myself an assistant.  Question of the Day: What is the craziest question you have ever been asked in an interview?

            Singer who runs a smidge

Hi Penguins!!  I'm back from my unplugged vacation, and it was all kinds of nice!  Spent some time in NC with my family, and then some time with just me and DH at home, which was even better!  I walked with DH and Dusty yesterday, and I'm hoping to make that a regular thing, even though my knee is still creaky as ever.  Definitely need to make a dedicated effort on my self-rehab, as I need my knee to be all better by competition in April!  Chorus rehearsal tonight ... I'll be interested to hear how we sound after two weeks off!

Docket -- morning!!  Someone has to not slack while the rest of us are sleeping in!

PAD -- yoga sounds nice, 15 degrees not so much!

Stone -- hope you have plenty of bread and milk!!

lew -- my interviews have been so ordinary, I don't think I've ever had a crazy question.  Good luck with your interviews!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

              Philliefan33

Good morning everyone.  I'm going to a yoga class at lunchtime.  After work I'll stop at the gym to swim or run -- depends what seems more interesting at the time.

                  Morning penguins!

Dam, sorry to hear about the migraine

Pad, that sounds cold! Enjoy the yoga

Stone, 36 hours of snow yikes.  Does that equate to 36" of Snow then?  Wowsers.

Lew, i dont remember any weird questions but I always feared the "what are your weaknesses? " question.  That would be a nightmare to answer!  And mean.  Dont ask that!

HM, sounds like a nice vacay.

I ran 6.5 miles yesterday which scares me with my testy shins.  my 15 yr old daughter and I will go to the gym later to do weights if we can fit in with all the resolutioners!

Still fighting a sore throat and stuffed sinuses.  Dammit.

Our high was 40 this morning and it drops all day then frigid temps next several days!  This is a tough winter so far!

Question of the Day: What is the craziest question you have ever been asked in an interview?

Do you expect to have children in the next year?

Not to talk about it being discriminatory and illegal to ask that question.

                    faster than a glacier

Hola Penguins! SO I'm at the end of week 6 of my HM plan (WUT?!), halfway done! My LR is up to 8 miles, after 6.5 being my previous "record" The plan calls for a practice 10K race on Sunday, but I have no interest in paying to do a 10K for training purposes (translation: I'm a cheap SOB). So I'm debating whether to do a 10K time trial on my own or just do another slow long run. I am curious to see where my fitness is, I'm not sure I want to do a "race pace" run that long because I'm a big chicken and the HM in 6 weeks is my one goal race for the year. Once that's over I'm switching over to triathlon training for this summer. So my running miles will drop. Guess I'll just see how I feel on Sunday.

Good Luck everyone with your training today and Roll Tide! Sugar Bowl tonight vs. Oklahoma

I have never been a big fan of that question.  While in graduate school when applying for a campus job I was asked that question and responded with, "honestly, I don't think I have any weaknesses."  The person's body language told me all I needed to know about that being a bad response.  A better suited, but similar question I plan to ask is, "Tell me about time you failed and what you learned from it."

Yeah it's an awful question. It basically forces you into a canned BS answer. Very few will answer it honestly, and if they do the interviewer will hold it against them. Don't even get me started about the interview/hiring process in my field

Can't said I have lots of interview experience.. What's the craziest question they offered?

Hello all. Back to work after 13 days off. Trying to get back in the swing of things.

Damaris - I hope your migraine goes away soon.

PADrunner - enjoy the hamster wheel.

Starting Over - Congrats on getting half way through the program.

HM - Unplugged vacation sounds like a great idea.

                              Philliefan - Enjoy the workout.

Lewjeffery - Nice jog on the 6.4. I can't think of a really crazy question. Accountants are boring interviewers.

StoneFence - Good morning. Try to stay warm.

Tracilynn - Nice run. I hope the shins hold up.

AFM - 5 miles yesterday and a rest day today. So far this week I've ran 13.1 miles. I am just working on rebuilding my base right now and taking it easy.

I guess the crazy thing wasn't really a question. It was an potential employer trying to talk me into taking a 15% pay cut. He kept telling me that I was only work a certain dollar amount which was a bunch of crap.
