Between the short reach and the tall head tube, I look like a T-rex riding a bike though.  lol

Ha, my MIL has a steel Seven with geometry like that.  She's really leggy and likes sitting really upright.  Looks like Frankenbike.

We can't figure it out...but I've talked to at least 3 other people who have ridden that exact same model of bike (our LBS had a bunch of them in the petite size when Cdale was essentially liquidating overstock) and couldn't believe what a dog it was.  The first time I rode a Mukluk I expected it to feel heavy and slow, like the F5--I was pleasantly surprised!

One issue is probably the tires.  Kenda Nevegals aren't zippy, for certain.

I bet it's a combination of multiple factors, mainly gearing and geometry.

The bikes aren't really comparable and to hit the F5's price point they had to cut lots of corners. A good bike makes the rider a better rider. Also, I'm sure it weights a ton. Do you have a spare set of 26" wheels to try on the 'dale?

At least it was cheap. And for that Redline... if your son is anything like mine, the cost of the bike probably pales in comparison to the cost of all the clothes you've been buying.

        Not pretty.

Here's John Kerry on his custom Serotta. I know exactly where he is in this pic too. I've run/rode that path many times.

Yeah, the F5 might be on the heavy side, but it is Cannondale's top-selling mtn bike...not sure how.  I think it's probably cheap/heavy wheels, heavy/slow tires, low-rent hubs that are mostly to blame.  It actually has decent component for a bike that originally retailed for $700--a mix of X5 and X7 and a RockShox Dart fork.

It's funny, we've not spent a huge amount on bike clothes for the rugrat.  He has a couple of jerseys and 2 pair of Canari shorts that actually have a REAL kids' sized chamois in them, not just a pad of fleece.

We don't know what we'll do in a couple of years when he no longer fits the Cannondale.  Probably start looking for bikes on CL, since he'll likely not last on any size for more than a year or two (at most) for the next 5 years.  Unfortunately we don't know anyone with a kid a few years older than Dane that we can buy hand-me-downs off of.  There is one kid in the area who is well on his way to being a future elite (and is SUCH a sweet guy--I hope he doesn't fall victim to the competitive cyclist douchebag tendency).  He has younger sisters to inherit his stuff, though.

In a couple years he may have his own strong opinion about what he wants. When I was 13 I got this:

Yes, it was green with green Skyway Tuffs. I loved the hell out of it. I nearly lived on it. I probably even watched TV on it.

DS's first real bike was DH's childhood bike.  That bastard probably weighs 40#s...no joke.  It was some tricked-out chrome Raleigh, I believe.  We still have it.  DH won't ever get rid of it.  I think at least 4 kids have used this bike (DH, a couple of neighbor kids after he outgrew it, DS).

Well...DH won't really get rid of any decent bike.  We finally got rid of some really low-rent Schwinn mtn bikes (better than Wal-Mart quality...like lowest low-end bike shop quality, non-suspension fork) last year when a local charity was looking for used bikes to give to kids.  This is why we have no rooms for cars in our garage.

I wish I still had that green bike but, to be honest, it was beat to hell and back and nearly useless when I got rid of it. I still have two of my skateboards. They work great for moving furniture, big stuff, and stuff.

Ooh. Naked steel (or is it just painted silver?) in the bike porn thread. That one certainly looks custom, not in a fast looking sort of way, but you gotta do what you gotta do. No doubt its a comfy ride.

It is painted - I believe that's the "titanium" color from IF.   The steel ride is sooo smooth.

Yeah, not speedy.  But my other option is to have my right leg go numb....  Riding > Not Riding.

That may be better then the middle legSurprised, but I'm not sure you would have that problem.

                              (noob) Hello!

My Trek Madone 6.5.  Bought it last year.  Every time I ride it reminds me why I bought it.

My Turner RFX.  This pic was taken when I first got her back in 2007.  I have since replaced the saddle, seatpost, wheels, tires, crankset, drivetrain, handlebar, and brakes.  Otherwise though it's mostly the same bike.  Big grin   I tend to beat the hell out of my mountain bikes.

I wonder how much of it's R&D was funded by ill gotten proceeds due to backing a famous doper. When I think of the Madone I'm reminded it's the climb where Dr. Ferrari liked to test his riders in order to tweak their "program." We're the beneficiaries of this.
