HI guys
This group was seeming very quiet so i though i would see how everybody was getting along. I was thinking that it could be good for everybody who is doing the C25K to tell everybody else how they are doing once a week or more often, as a bit of support (just an idea).

For myself im in the middle of week 4 and dreading week 5 as it looks very scary, apart from that all going well, aches and pains seem to be getting less and even though the 5 minute runs seem like a long time they are doable. I have been doing my runs in the morning this week which as its been hot has been the coolest time of the day, im not a morning person but its a nice way to get those cobwebs shifted.

Hope everybody else is doing well
Love Charlie

I just completed WK5 Day 1 today. It was a bit tough but I made it through. I didn't get tired at all throughout it but my legs started to get stiff during the walk intervals.

Well im only one run away from graduating the C25K, today i ran 2.74miles in 30 minutes, im not sure wether ill run the 3.1miles and see how long it takes me for my graduating run. Its getting easier again now, i found weeks 7 and 8 tough, it took a while to get used to the continuous running but now the idea of walking doesent even enter my head.

Hope everybody else is doing well with there running and their C25K.

Wow, Charlie, congrats on finishing your program! You should definitely pick out a local 5K race if you haven't already... it's a whole new game and it's loads of fun! I know I'm one run early, but really - way to go!!! Cool
Working my way down from 174 to 159 pounds. Currently back at 174. Darn T-day & stress... >:(

Awesome, Charlie!

Thats great news and if I were you I would do a local 5k race (or similar) if its convenient. Most people find it to be a little intimidating (if they've never done a race before) - but extremely rewarding. Either way - doing the distance is an amazing milestone. If you keep it up and slowly increase your distances - it won't be long before you refer to 3 miles as only 3 miles.

Charlie, you HAVE to do a race! Seriously, once I did my first race I discovered how motivating it is to register for races and to keep slowly increasing my distance. I think you'll love it!

WTG! It only gets better!

Well i did the last run today, i just did the 2.75miles i had been doing in 30 minutes instead of doing the 5k as planned (kinda) as i did run yesterday. re races i cant seem to find a 5k one in my area until new years day (and hopefully ill be travelling round South America then) but there is a 5 mile race on the 13th of October, just round the corner from where i live (walking distance) http://www.sports-fitness.com/events/sf/uk/view/ksfunrun. Is getting from 2.75 miles to 5 miles in 3 months advisable/doable (i guess i can always walk parts of it if i get too tired).

DEFINITELY! To give you an idea of what's doable, I completed the C25k at about the same speed you are doing...maybe a little slower. I finished in mid-May, I believe. Late June I did a 5k, late July a 10k, late Sept. a 10 miler and late Oct. my first HM. So a 5mi. in 3 months is WAY possible...not even a stretch to get yourself ready for that.

Support from the ones you love is the BEST motivator (I mean, next to races, LOL!).

Totally, he thinks my starting running is great, not that he runs himself, he's more of a surfer.

Hello all. I'm new to this board, and to running in general. I figured I would hop right in so I can gain some inspiration and stay motivated. A little background info on myself:

My name is Mike, I turn 34 on August 3rd. I smoked a pack a day from my sophomore year in college until March 7th, when I quit. Since that point I have become a vegetarian and as of 9 days ago I started running. When I was younger, I would run on a semi-regular basis to blow off some steam or just get a nice, natural high. Nothing regimented or serious.
I have not exercised on a regular basis since college. I came across the Couch to 5K program about 2 weeks ago when I started running again and am just getting the hang of it. So far I've completed Week One, tomorrow being the start of Week Two. The first two workouts I thought I was going to keel over and die - literally. The last workout I had on Sunday, however, wasn't so bad. Hopefully I'm doing something right Smile

I have targeted a Sep. 29th 5K here on Long Island as my first race ever. It will be 11 weeks from when I started, so theoretically I should be able to make it. I haven't signed up as of yet though, I guess because I'm not entirely sure I'm ready for it. I suppose I just need some more physical evidence that I'm progressing in this program.

Anyway, I'm really glad to be a part of this group and hope I can contribute some motivation of my own. Good luck to all!

Welcome, Mike. I've got a similar story - 28 year pack a day habit that I quit on 1/1/07 and started the Coach to 5k program in early February of this year. The first week or two felt like they were going to kill me too Big grin My suggestion is to not focus on your time (speed) as much as just getting the program done from a distance perspective. I quickly got addicted to running and am now training for my first marathon.

It's also great that you have a 5k race scheduled as this will help your motivation a lot on the days you may not feeling getting out there and running.

Good luck and welcome to RA!

Thanks to Bonkin and Zoom-Zoom for the warm welcome.

Today was the start of Week 2 for me. Jeez those extra 30 seconds are rough, lol. I was doing pretty well during my last run on Sunday, which was the final run of Week One. Started feeling pretty good about myself Smile Then...today. Ugh.

Still, wasn't feeling that great this morning during the workout, but I feel a LOT better now that I'm at work post-workout. Can't wait to see how my body handles Thursday's run.

Here's a question: Should I be running every other day, or just three times a week? I would like to stick to a regimen of every other day, only because taking two days off makes me feel like I'm missing out on something.
