I did an 11k trail race in Greenville, SC this morning. It was lots of fun and brutal. My overall time was 1:17:33 for an average pace of 11:10. I placed 2nd in my age group. Mile three was a 16:28 min mile due to the steep and very rocky climb to the top of the mountain. The down hill after that was fun. There were some really steep and twisty descents that I had so much fun doing. Of course once it got back to being flat I almost ate it. I'm so proud I managed to save myself. I just threw my arms out to the side and decided that running off the trail into the brush would save my balance and I was right! The runner behind me gave me big kudos for not falling. Figures I could survive the tough part but almost eat it when it's easier.

I'm absolutely pooped right now since this race was over a mile longer than I've done in training. My whole body is sore. I'm looking forward to a big dinner tonight and maybe a swim tomorrow to work out any stiffness.

What kind of fun stuff did the rest of you do this weekend?

Way to go Ashley! Looks like trail running really suits you. Wish I could tolerate the trails but I'm just too jumpy about twisting my ankles and that sort of stuff... not to mention it's difficult.

I placed 2nd in my age group today too, down in Birmingham, Alabama at the Vulcan 10k Run. It was fun. I was 74th overall out of 1750 runners and finished in 42:31.

We almost bought the farm on the way down. A piece of plywood fell off a truck in front of us at about 70 mph and smashed through our windshield! Luckily the angle of it kept it from cutting off our heads, which I hear can be quite painful. We didn't have a scratch though and got a rental car and figured we might as well keep on going since we had already paid for the hotel and the race entry fees.

Richard, glad you have your prioroties straight about posting about your near deatch experience, post it here and not make it a big deal.. Serioulsy though, how very fortunate.  Reminds us how tenous our life is, and reminds us to do the best of today.  Glad 'd ave a chance to run with you again soon.

I ran the Dowd Half today in 1:55:48., a 3 minute PR and a 5+ minute Course record.  Running with fast folk like you is helping me.

Richard that is so scary! I'm glad that you guys are okay. That's a great 10k time! I wish I could do a 10k that fast.

          Shashi congrats on the PR!

Good work on the Dowd HM Shashi! I hated missing that race. We did the 5k last year and it was a good one. Are you still running the Spencer Mountain 10-Miler next week? I'm planning on it but could get sidetracked by going to get my car Friday and/or Saturday if it's fixed then.
Yes I'll be running the Spencer Mtn 10 next saturday.  Hope to come in around 1:25.  Will see how bad those hills kill me

That's a great feeling ot tiredness I think Ashley.   How bout you?  Awesome run.  I like the trail run I did earlier this year also and plan on more next spring.

Way to knock those races out guys.  Very nice. Richard, I'm glad that board didn't hurt the two of you also.  Close call for sure.

I did nothing more than hit the bike at the Y last week.  I run about 3 - 5 good weeks then go downhill.  I set an appointment at OrthoCarolina with their running program to see if they can figure out why I have such tough time with my calf.  The physical therapist specializes in lower leg extremeties.  We'll see what she says.

                Good luck this week.
