"I want you to pray as if everything depends on it, but I want you to prepare yourself as if everything depends on you."

Clive, those sound like two worthy goals. Can't wait to hear the outcome.
And good running as always Richard. You beat 88 yrs. old Margaret Haggerty I see. I met her at the Santa Scramble and asked her how she ran. She said it was ok, then asked me if I ran Thunder Road. I told her yes, I ran the half and asked if she did. She said she doesn't like half's since they are so short, but now that she's 88, she said she was getting a little tired but preferred fulls. Then she went on to tell me she's planning on climbing Kilimanjaro. I wasn't about to tell her I was happy with my 5k time.
Richard,
congrats on the PR in the 8k at Turkey Trot. I was looking at the results and your age group was really stacked (in addition to the guy who won it). I was reading your blog -- did you line yourself too far back (I think you said it took like 20 seconds to get to the start mat) or did you get their late and not be able to jump in fr the side or was it very over-crowded (w/people being unrealistic about how they seeded themselves)?
Rob
I thought I was closer to the front than I was. That is the worst race in the world at the start. They don't even mention to people that they ought to line up according to how fast they are and it's the biggest mess I've ever seen. It kind of took me by surprise that I was as far back as I was and I had to dodge people for several minutes but them's the breaks I guess. I was actually pretty happy with my time since my watch had bonked so I didn't have my heart rate monitor (which I always rely on) and I ended up with a PR by 15 seconds so I can't complain about that. There were just some faster guys there, especially the winner, Jerry Clark, who broke the NC state record in the 55-59 division.
We're taking off for Honolulu first thing in the morning... gonna visit my son and run a 5k there Sunday. My goal will be not to overdress.

This weeks' racing: CliveF -- 03DEC2011 -- Holiday 5k (Huntersville NC) -- Goals: (a) sub-20; (b) blow up.
Technically, a fail. Ran 20:36 on what I've meticulously mapped three times as 5.12km long. That'd be about a 20:07 corrected, but more likely 20:12-ish. Ah well. I ran better kilometer splits in this race than any previous 5k, so I'm pleased with that. And considering my 5k PR is on a course I think is short, I'm taking this one as my unofficial 5k personal best.
Great run Clive. Congratulations. That's definitely not a fail.
Are we there yet?
Nice Run Clive, You'll get that sub 20 soon. If nothing else, the practice of running these 5k's should get you over the line.
