You could certainly train to finish and that would be a great accomplishment. You'd get a new race distance under your belt, some experience and feel for what it's like. Just to throw another opinion into the mix - Racing is exciting. I've postponed races that I could have finished but not raced with the intent to better prepare myself for the distance. When I've done that, I've never regretted it. When all is said and done obviously it's your call. I think both are good options and have much to offer. It just all boils down to your relationship with running and what makes you feel good.

Mr I, you are better than I am. I always intend to train betternext time, but seldom do. So I am better off racing anyway. 850 yards in the fishbowl tonight, followed by 40 minutes of weights.
