Yes I do want to do it again but holding off for a year or two so I can run more and get faster....is it expecting too much to think I could eventually do 5 hrs?

Peach, You can do it. And you are doing it the smart way, building up too it. You have to build up your base so that you can run comfortably for all 26 miles and throw in a little speed work once your base is built up. Go to McMillan's online running calculator. Plug in 5 hours for a marathon. It will tell you what speeds you should be running a 5k at and 10k's. Train so that you can race the shorter distances at the speed you need. Thentrain for and race longer distances. That way you have some short term goals to shoot for to keep you motivated, and you will know if you are on pace to make a 5 hour marathon. Best wishes. Cash is right, of course. 5 hours is very achievable (11:28 per mile average). I think you'll do well to establish some intermediate pace goals. Maybe sign up for a 5K and shoot for a 10 minute average pace. Then 10K at 10:15. 10 miler at 10:30. Then a half at 10:45. McMillan will give you targets for your training paces and those other race distances (I made them up just as an example). Build your base with easy efforts, then whittle your pace down at the shorter distances and then extend that pace to longer and longer efforts. I knew you had the bug Yes

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/Running%20University/Article%201/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm Go to the orange section. Click on the distance want, then type in the time you either already did, or the time you want to achieve. Then click on calculate.

5 hours is very attainable. You've got a great outlook on this. Patience and persistence will get you there. Like others said - build your base, lots of easy miles. Looking forward to seeing you knock this out of the park.
