Ex-Smoker turned Runner!

    Just thought I'd post a semi info/poll for everyone that wants to shout out about a local race that we all may not know about. I use http://www.hitekracing.com/calendar/ most of the time but they don't always have all the races!

    2010 Goals! Get back into running after having my son miles miles miles!
      I'm headed down to the New Haven 20k on Labor Day. My first time there and I hear it's a pretty big deal. Anyone here ever run it? Any inside tips on parking/navigating?
      2010 Goals: Danbury Half Marathon: <1:42:00; boston="" run="" to="" remember:=""></1:42:00;><1:42:00; nyc="" marathon:=""></1:42:00;><3:45:00; finish: run amuck and warrior dash! finish:="" run="" amuck="" and="" warrior=""></3:45:00; finish: run amuck and warrior dash!>
        There is a ton of street parking in the area (you don't have to pay the meters on the weekends).. get there a little early and State street is full of open spaces between Grove/Crown streets. It's only like a block or two from there to the green where it starts. If they fill up, I think New Haven is 30% parking garage.. so if you drive around for 30 seconds you will find one close by.

          Go here for info on parking garages from the City of New Haven Parking Authority. http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/ParkingAuthority/index.asp I'm guessing the on-street spots will either be full or temporarily closed for the race. Closest to the Green are the Shubert garage and the Medical Center garage; a little further out but with plenty of space is the Air Rights garage. Good Luck on the race!

              The Newtown 5k is a lot of fun! Very well run race. It's a crowded start so if your looking to make time get up front.
                Looks like the southbury 10k on the 21st as well

                    Ex-Smoker turned Runner!

                      Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you all know I found a great race! Mikey's Place is a wheelchair accesible playground in Wethersfield, CT. This race helps support the playgrounds upkeep. http://wethersfield.net/dl/mp/mp-5k-08-applic2.pdf It's only $10 to sign up and it's waived if you collect $15 in pledges for race day which is October 19th. Also my school Middlesex Community College is having it's annual 5K Saturday, November 1, 2008 - MxCC Foundation Annual Road Race MxCC Foundation Annual Road Race Needs Runners. In this economic climate more students need financial assistance. Middlesex Community College Foundation helps by awarding scholarships to as many deserving students as possible. Their main fundraiser for scholarship funds is the annual road race scheduled for Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. Runners are needed to make this event successful. Pre-registration is $15 before Oct. 18; after that date and on day of the race, the fee will be $17. The race route begins and ends at Middlesex Community College Middletown campus, 100 Training Hill Road. The race is presented by MxCC Foundation and sponsored by Aetna Foundation to benefit student scholarships. Contact Trent Wright at 860-343-5708 or TWright@mxcc.commnet.edu, for more information. Last year this was my first race I ran since quitting smoking and getting back into running. It was very emotional I was crying yelling I'M A QUITTER by the time I crossed the finish line. It was hard but I did it and was so proud! It was raining and I actually placed 2nd in my age group due to the small amount of people!
