Is there anyone out there still planning to do this run? How is the training going? I can't believe it's almost here...I can hardly wait.
There hasn't been much activity here, so I thought I would check around to see what the sccop is.

I registered for the full. My training has been going ok I guess. I've logged a lot of miles (for me), but my paces aren't what they should be. Could be a case of overtraining. I had a kick ass tempo run on 8/14 and a great 20 miler that same week, but everything since then has been very sluggish. I'm taking it easy this week and running the Lansing Half this weekend. That should be a good indicator.
I know there's a few who are still planning on running. How's your training going jillsey?

Hey Jillsey, Cory,
Yep, I'm registered for the full. It's my first and my training is not nearly where I planned on it being. Life's kinda gotten in the way this summer, but come October 19, none of it matters! I'm starting to freak out about it a bit, and alternate between being REALLY excited for the race and then REALLY dreading it. It's just all of those unknowns that are making me nutso. OK, more nutso than I usually am!
I thought there was an attempt to get a dinner group together for the night before the race, but I'm sure where we stand on that...

I'll be there...not as as runner, but someone has to hold the HTFU sign for you yahoos!
I'm totally game for dinner the night before...just name the place. I'll have my crazy cheering kid with me.

I'll be there
Last night I accepted that I won't be able to make it this year. There is just too much going on that weekend and it wouldn't be fair of me to take off and leave my husband to deal with it all.

Awww...man. I was hoping that no news was good news. I'm sorry. I was SO looking forward to meeting you and at least one of your kids!
On the bright side, if scheduling is better next year (ie did not riding his bike in another state on the same weekend) I'm already sort of planning to do GR next year (also assuming that my first marathon doesn't make me swear off all future ones). At the very least I would definitely plan to do the HM--awesome race. Maybe you can tentatively pencil GR in for next year.

I think I was in denial and not wanting to admit that it wasn't going to work for this year. I kept hoping for a change of something to make the weekend not so full!! But, nope, didn't happen, in fact that weekend got busier (I was asked to help with homecoming stuff!).
You won't be swearing off marathons, so I'll mark next year's race down in my planner.

It may require prescription orthotics, but I have a feeling that I'm going to want more.

Yeah, it's a crazy addiction! Bring on the orthotics and keep logging those miles.
I never knew I wanted to run a marathon, and then I did one, and then I said I wasn't going to
ever
do another one, and then I did another one...and now I'm doing one in November but that one is for "fun"....the kicker is that as much as I don't like running long distance I won't be happy until I get under 4 hours so I'm sure I'll sign up for few more before I say (again) "I'm never running another marathon".
