100 pushups (Read 93 times)

Chicago winter running
Chris I saw in your log that you're thinking of starting the 100 pushups regimen thing- where did you see it? I think I posted a link to it on Facebook but I first saw it on the Women's locker room forum (love it there!). If you're in, I'll be in too- I know it will be good for my climbing. I haven't committed on the women's forum yet b/c it just seems so impossible, but I kind of want to...

Here's the link in case any of our other group members are interested!

Technically I'm in Rank 2 since I did 8 but I might start at Rank 1 anyways. I think I could've done more than 8 but I climbed a ton yesterday and did some tough upper body yoga the day before (excuses, excuses- that's me!)

Hello Portland!
Yeah, I first saw that site on reddit (reddit.com, a site that collects interesting links).
I thought i'd be able to crank out 40 or 50 in my initial test. Well i managed 30 and was pretty tired. I did the first day and felt good, following column three.
I'll let you know if i ever get to week 3.

is that a reference to Donnie Darko or the linguist? (below your avatar)

amazing that you did 30!! 100 really seems kind of impossible but we'll see...

Hello Portland!
Can't it be from both!?

How do you remember that from Donnie Darko? Isn't that movie five years old?

Kicked off a new attempt at "week one" of the 100 pushups yesterday. We'll see how long i keep it up.

ummm.. b/c its the most awesome movie ever!!! Seriously, its on my top 5 list. My brother and I have definitely spent a few hours talking about it. You like it, don't you? We can still be friends if you like it.
And you're right, it can be from both. Glad you had such a nice run on Sunday!

We need to recruit some new members with Carl gone... why hasn't Karl joined? I keep hassling my girls who've started running to join but they haven't yet.

I start the 10 pushups routine tonight (keep putting it off but tonight's the night). Karl said on Facebook that he's doing it too. So is my brother- this is exciting!

Hello Portland!
I'm going to call you so we can talk about Donnie Darko.

Today is my second day of pushups, i hope i remember to do them when i get home, it hasn't become a habit yet.

I'll see what i can do about getting some new members, even though Carl is irreplaceable!

Hey, is that Donnie Darko movie any good? I've put it on hold from the library, and if you guys say it's good I'll bring it home for Chris and me to watch after the boys go to sleep.

Donnie Darko is awesome! I highly recommend it. But its weird- just to warn you. The first time I saw it, it ended and I just sat there thinking, "What???" and rewound it and watched it again. My brother and I have elaborate theories on what's going on in it.

Also, thanks for the tip on pushups after climbing. I'm just trying to build strength to have a good fall climbing season. The TV workout sounds like fun- and hard! I'd have to do about 3 during commercials Smile

You might like climbing Carl- its also something you can do with your family! I love running b/c you can do it by yourself or with a partner(s) but you develop really amazing connections climbing w/ people b/c of the trust and time. Plus its a great workout- here's a few pics from my Yosemite days.
First is on a route near El Cap that we did.

2nd is when I used ot have back and forearm muscle... again, someday perhaps.

3rd is my friends on a route that was too tough for me but see if you can find them :)

holy crap, donnie darko is amazing, although bunnies have never been quite the same for me. also, pushups are the worst! it's always the one thing i really freak out about before my navy bi-annual fitness test. how is that going? and chris does this mean you've abandoned plan-6-pak to pursue plan-ripped-arms instead?
Hello Portland!
Re: Donnie Darko, I was going to call you (Katie) to talk about what the hell happened in the end of that movie, but decided to put it off until i rewatch it. I'm going to try to watch it tomorrow.

Great photos of climbing Katie, the other ones I saw of your previous weekend looked like lots of fun too.

I'm not quite sure why i started with the push-ups. I saw that link on Reddit, and just thought i should try it.

I'm still hitting the gym once in a while though, don't you worry JackieO. Granted, i have been skipping the Core at lunch, but i've got a great reason for that: I've been tired. Biking to work and still running all combined with the heat, has just been taking it out of me! I can't take the heat!

Saw (/heard) you went running this week though Jackie. Way to get out there! You've got a great place to run out by your place, you should take advantage.

more random questions about acronyms:
what the heck does HTFU and MTA stand for? I cannot figure it out!

Chris- good thing I'm not holding my breath waiting for you to call. just kidding obviously Smile
I'll give you a call this weekend or next week so we can work out details. Are you (and Yas) up for a drink on Thurs night? I think a miscellaneous group may be getting together for a little bit- probably near Wicker Park for easy access (some folks in downtown, us up in Andersonville). I guess I should be emailing you this not writing on here...
sorry everyone!

Hello Portland!
Harden The Fuck Up came from this video:

MTA means, Modified To Add (after modifying a post obviously.

Curse you Central Standard Time! I know a good time to call you is at 7:30 my time, but the CVI went out for beers after work today, and well, you know. Besides, i haven't rewatched Donnie Darko yet!

omg! I had no idea the first one was so... rigid! When I finally figured out SAHM meant stay at home mom, I was so proud of myself but thought the other one meant something equally benign. Well, I'm glad I know anyways! Thanks Chris- and thanks for the link too. And MTA makes a lot more sense now too...
(can you tell I'm totally lurking in forums. Oddly, since I can't run, I hang out here more- or maybe its just procrastination).

I'm still working actually (JC tomorrow) so I couldn't talk tonight anyways. Maybe this weekend! If not, how about next week- eeee! Getting excited.

When you mentioned picking up your ring on a run, was that your wedding ring? How exciting! Is Yasmien's from the same place?

Holy mackerel, those climbing pictures are amazing. The first one, especially, is impressive. I like the ropes hanging alongside the rock face, and the background heights in the right half of the frame.

I'm sure I'd love climbing, although I probably should have started a decade or two ago. I got assigned to teach two evening classes (four eves a week) in the fall, and I've just been recruited to coach my youngest son's soccer team. Chrissy and I are trying to figure out how I'm going to get to choir practice (I play guitar for them). It's all going to be interesting, that's for sure. Right now, running, pushups, and situps are about all I can fit in.

Those acronyms are funny - I wouldn't take anything that's in obnoxiously imperative mood too seriously, though! And hey, be careful of that lurking - pretty soon you'll be spending hours on here and will have to do something drastic like limit yourself to "official" break times. When I awoke a few mornings in a row thinking about what I was going to post on the 2000-mile board, I knew I had to make some kind of change! Smile

Thanks, Jackie - when the movie comes in, I'll watch out for the bunnies! Speaking of bunnies and movies, there's a short but funny part about bunny slippers in Mirrormask, which we just watched last weekend with our kids.

And talk of rings - are you planning a wedding, Chris? If so, congratulations!

MTA(!): And hey Katie, what's this about not being able to run? If you're hurt, I hope you're back on your feet soon.

ha ha- you're totally right about the lurking Carl! Although I don't think I'll get too addicted b/c our lab is about ready to start experiments again and then I will be busy busy busy and not bored so often. Everyone in the lab is a little sick of data analysis and reading papers which is mostly what we've done since we got here.

I haven't seen Mirrormask but did see The Golden Compass, which I thought was quite good. That's awesome that you and your wife are so involved with your kids and the church too! Well done.

thanks for asking- my foot is injured (plantar faciatis- and don't worry- I've tried every trick in the book so far) but I go see the podiatrist tomorrow (finally!) and may get cortisone injections but we'll see. I feel like I can manage the pain and get 20 miles out of it but since what I'd really like to be doing right now is training for the Nov 50 miler, it is very insufficient.

Jackie hope you had a great time in Chicago!

Chris- too bad Nene's Cafe closed down or we could've done a run that went by it and the foot statue!

Bob- hope you're doing well!
