Weekend of 8/16 (Read 37 times)

So what's everyone up to this weekend?

My family and I are going to the Rock Lake picnic on Saturday. Also, my brother in law is having his Camp Gonzo, which consists of a few Vietnam-era vets, who met at a branch of PSU, getting together for drinking, guitar playing, and general merriment. I think it's like their 30th anniversary of holding these camp-outs, so it should be fun.

Not sure if I'll fit a long run into this or not. I hope to get one in early on Sunday.

Hello Portland!
That sounds like a fun weekend Carl. I've got nothing planned as of yet. I'm totally into a couple different video games, and hence trying to not play them, and instead go outside and do some fun Chicago stuff while i'm still here. Hopefully it'll still be on the cool side and i can get a long run in.

Carl, I saw Rockenmom's race report, and your 12.5 miler comments about the Viaduct race.
Congratulations on organizing what sounds like a very successful event! Rockenmom sounded very happy with it anyway. Maybe someday I'll get a chance to run some (or all) of it, the pictures made it look really pretty and peaceful out there.
Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention...Science has it all. -Skinner
Chicago winter running
Yeah- congrats on the race running so well, Carl! I didn't read Pam's whole report but got the gist of it which seemed very positive- sounds great! How was your experience of it? I don't know if you posted about this somewhere and I missed it...?
Have fun camping- that sounds great! 30th anniversary is an impressive streak.

Good luck to both of y'all getting some long runs in although Chris I was impressed to see your long run last weekend (or sometime recently). Which video game are you playing? That lego one still? Or am I totally making that up? I'm mixing up people's stories lately...

I'm going to San Francisco to see my brother again. We hit up the Exploratorium (awesome!!) last weekend and this weekend used our connections to get free tix to the MOMA there. Sunday- "celebration" (what they call worship) at his church and the Muir Woods.

I started my swimming class which is tough but really fun. I'm enjoying it and the amazing workout it is- running is obviously infinitely better than all other sports but in the meantime, its nice to be getting my entire body in shape! Swimming is 4x/wk for 3 weeks- whew... After class I went climbing but wasn't recovering fast enough to climb well- I guess I have my limits even if I'm not willing to acknowledge them Wink

MTA: Chris- glad you weighed in on the Chicago winter running gear thread Smile

Hello Portland!
How cool is it that you ended up in Davis and your brother in SF? Glad to hear you get to see him and have some fun together.

That Lego game was Star Wars Legos. It was awesome! But we beat it. Indiana Jones Lego just came out a bit ago. Basically you run through the first three Indy movies. Reenacting it all and fighting the bad guys, except that you're a lego character. It's so much fun!

I haven't posted a report, but I have posting the reports of our runners. Here's link that has Pam's blog, as well as a link to Glenn's in-race audio posts. In his first 100 attempt, he was tailing the leader by just a few minutes for about 90 miles before an injury forced him to stop:

race reports

I'll add more to this page as reports come in. Right now, though, I'm too preoccupied with soccer coaching tonight (it's my son Blaise's third practice) to get a decent report of my own together.

Chris, is that Lego game online at Lego.com? If so, I've seen it - my children have played it, although I wasn't able to get a turn!

Katie, keep having fun climbing and swimming - if I ever can't (or don't want to) run, endurance swimming is my backup plan. You know, "If I ever lose my legs . . ."

Maybe that song doesn't fit so well, though; there wouldn't be much of a moonshadow in the water, unless it's shallow and tropical-clear.

Hey, that sounds kinda fun! It's clearly time for me to stop daydreaming and get back to work!
