You did great out there Katie! That wind on the way back made it really tough, I'm impressed at how you gutted it out! Congratulations!
And thanks for waving for the picture, even though I could tell you really didn't want to!

Nice job Katie! Glad to hear you had a good race and enjoyed yourself, that's what's important.

Thanks guys! Thanks for the picture Bob- It was very nice to meet you and run a little ways with you. Congrats on your awesome 1/2 time! That is super fast- I can't get onto the results site- the little blue circle just keeps spinning without taking me there but I bet you placed really well in your group. Congrats!
Hope you had fun and liked Tampa. I had a very nice time and was exceedingly happy to also get to run next to my old Coach for a while- a little like things had come full circle since he was so instrumental in my early running career (and beyond, really).

Hey Bob, you didn't do to bad there yourself! Was that PR? 1:31, man that's quick. 11th place too nice job!

Hey Chris, thanks! No not a PR. I was using the race as a marathon goal pace training run, and after a slow first mile or two due to a crowded start ( I wasn't one of the lucky ones to get a seeded #
), I settled into a nice comfy pace and held it at that. I was happy at how relaxed that pace felt, which is the way it should be if you want to run a whole marathon at that pace! My fastest miles were AFTER the race when I was back out on the course trying to catch up to Katie! I think one of those splits was a 5:55! OUCH.
Speaking of fast paces, YOU are really zipping along in your training runs!!! Very impressive! Are you planning on any races in the near future? And I really enjoyed reading about your recent 14 miler. It's amazing the things that go on around us if we just take the time to look. Well done!

Great running, Chris, Katie, and Bob!
A snowstorm's supposed to be on its way here tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully I'll get up early and get in a good run with the dog we're watching for our neighbor.

Have fun Carl!
Chris, we've got to carpool more to catch up
5:55 Bob! Wow! Sorry I wasn't more chipper when you did catch me- if I'd known, I would've tried to rally more. But thanks for the support!

Carl, enjoy your run with your new running partner! Just don't run the poor pooch into the ground!
Katie, I wasn't expecting you to be chipper out there. You were running a marathon! Being chipper isn't allowed! So please don't apologize. I feel I'm the one who needs to apologize, I'm sure you didn't need the distractions out there that I caused. As rough as it got for you out there at the end, you did a remarkable job of holding yourself together. I would've been screaming at everyone around me to leave me alone. Thank you for your politeness.

No not a PR.
You know, i recall thinking your Fire Island 5k was a PR too. I guess they're just pr's since you started logging on RA(?). Makes me wonder what your pr's really are!
I'm not signed up for any races right now. I'm looking towards Ohio River Marathon in Xenia, OH (Mar 30) and am trying to get trained for it, but still seeing how that goes. Trying to decided between that and the 50k here in Chicago (Apr 5). I have been feeling good, lately though, and may try to run another 5k in the beginning of March as another attempt at the sub 20 min 5k i'm looking to get this year.

The marathon PR I have listed in the RA log is my current marathon PR. Everything else is just my PR since starting to log here, as you suggested. My modern day half marathon PR, which I ran about 3-4 years ago, is about 10 minutes faster than what I ran in Tampa just now.
Based on your training paces, it looks like a sub-20 5k should be very doable for you. Make sure you throw in some good fast tempo runs in there to get ready.
Your marathon in Chicago really impressed me, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do next.
But this thread was supposed to be about Katie! After you recover from Tampa, what's next for you, oh speedy one?

oh no no- no apologizing from either of us. I wasn't in a bad mood at the end actually- when I get really tired, I feel fairly happy mentally. I was going as fast as I could and didn't mind at all that I couldn't go faster. I remember my first marathon, near the end in the same state, I went by some people urging me to go faster and I just laughed and said "I'm going top speed!" as I shuffled along. Same kind of thing
Nice job on those super fast times, Bob!
You'll rock either of those races you decide on Chris- assuming I don't do either, I'll come help with the 50 K if you want me to (in return for your help in October). And I bet you can break 20 minutes- those treadmill workouts are killers.
What's next for me is taking it easy on running, hopefully doing more yoga classes and spending lots and lots of time with my friends before I leave for Davis. I'm very happy about this and feel rather relieved not to have anything hanging over my head. Yay friends!
What's next for everyone else- I get lost pretty quick...

Katie, By "leave for Davis," do you mean that you're heading to UC Davis? If so, being at a California university will be awesome. And the running conditions will be ideal, to boot.
As for me, the next race on my calendar is a mid-April triathlon called the Eco-Quest; it's a sprint-length event with canoe, mtn bike, and road/trail run sections. Then, two weeks after that is the Pocono Marathon. Not having any immediate races means that I still have some time to get my weekly mileage up to where I had hoped it would be.
When I went to the local Penn State campus today to use the t-mill, I found out that the campus was closed due to the weather. I didn't have any waterproof gear with me, so I used what was left of my lunchbreak to drive over and sign back up with the pool. Tomorrow, it's back in the water for Carl.
Have fun getting ready to leave town, Katie, and good luck to everyone in their late-winter training!

Carl, good deal getting back into the water! How long has it been? Will you be swimming on your own, or did you sign up for a program? Keep us posted! That Eco-Quest thing sounds pretty cool! Have you done it before?
Katie, I guess you were experiencing runner's high at the end of your marathon. Enjoy the change of focus the next few weeks.
Chris, I echo what Katie said, you will be awesome in whatever event you end up doing. Your running is coming along very nicely.
For me, I have a 15k race on March 8th. This will be an all out effort. It's a perfect tune up for Boston, the course is insanely hilly. Other than that, just counting the days till Springtime...

It's been about four months since I've swum at all, and about a year since I was swimming every week. The 20-yard pool is in a neighborhood field house that's a few blocks from my day job. I'm not swimming with a group but am on my own in the pool, and I'm usually the only person in the water who's under age 65. The oldest regular guy there is 90-something and in pretty decent shape, actually. At just 38, I sometimes feel like a speedster when I'm there!
Today I eased into the whole thing with a nice relaxing set of 20 laps (40 lengths). Hopefully, I can keep it going for a while this time. I was definitely stronger overall when I was swimming more. I just swim laps and work on trying to improve my technique by reading web articles and then practicing what sounds good.

I've never done the Eco-Quest before, or any triathlon for that matter, but a friend who moved to a different town talked it up to me and we decided to both enter as a way to get our families together and to have something to train for. Although I have a canoe, I don't have a mountain bike yet, so I'll have to pick one up soon!
