Here are some pictures of our year-long home project:

The new stuff is the garage to the left, the room above, and the deck in front.

My cousin-in-law helped us convert these diagonal steps from our old porch steps.

The project's still continuing; I'm getting ready to put up siding (mostly reusing the stuff we removed from the side of the house on the top part, and putting barn-wood or stone on the lower part), and we're working on converting a bunch of rocks I dug up into a walkway.

awesome pictures Carl!! It looks great! I especially love the top porch- looks like a great place to hang out, watch a sunset, relax. Porches are the best Smile That's great that you can reuse some siding- reuse/recycle- hooray!

How's everyone else been doing? There are less smoky days here, which is nice- even though I do most of my working out in gyms these days. The climbing is going well though- I've been doing a little lead climbing and rocking some harder stuff. Nice to finally be getting a little stronger and my back and abs are all the better for it.

Roll call: how's everyone's running going in our various summer heats?

Hello Portland!
Wow, nice work Carl. You must be a pretty handy guy to have around. I can't even change my own oil, how sad is that?

Katie: So far the summer hasn't been too bad. We haven't had a 100 deg day yet, but the heat and humidity have really cut back on my running (and push-ups for some reason).
Last night we had quite a storm. I had never heard the tornado sirens go off in chicago before. They were followed by what was a really impressive storm. No damage to me or any of the few things i own. Lucky for me, i got a fun 6.5 miler in during that calm period before the storm.

Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention...Science has it all. -Skinner
Thanks, Katie and Chris! It's been good to do some of my own work on our home, and working alongside friends and family has also been great.

Last week I got caught in an hour-long rainstorm at the start of my longest training run ever, a foot-commute home from work. It slowed me down some, which was probably a good thing, and I ended up walking a bunch of it. The bike ride back in the next morning also took a little longer than I'd hoped. However, it all made for an interesting story when my family got home from their short beach-trip.

The VTU is this weekend; my co-RDs and I have been working on getting everything ready. It looks like we'll have about 20 runners this year, so we're not running it ourselves. We might get some pacing miles in if some runners need it.

Good job, Katie, with the climbing, and Chris, with avoiding tornadoes!
