My recent run in upstate NY (Read 42 times)

From my run in upstate NY over the weekend. I pretty much followed a route that a 10k race held there follows. It heads out of town along a river, crosses a covered bridge, then heads back to town on the other side of the river.
Welcome to Delhi
A neat house in town. How'd you like to climb those steps at the end of every run?
Sheep and some alpacas (I think!)
This hill climed 500' in just under a mile. The picture doesn't do it justice.
The bridge you cross to get to the other side of the river, before heading back to town.
Funny sign on the bridge.
Looking back at the bridge after crossing it, heading back to town on the other side of the river.
Along the river, heading back to town.
Neat little farmhouse on a hill. Love the front porch.
I thought one day I would like to buy this house and live here.
A neat barn.
Still heading back to town. A nice peaceful road to run on.
Someone's garden in front of an old barn.
The local high school track. That would make a nice backdrop for your workouts.

Those are some awesome pictures! I'm glad that the $5 fine applies only to drivers; that bridge would be fun to run through!
I also liked seeing the rock garden. Now that our construction project is pretty much finished and we're fixing up the aftermath outside our home, I hope that some of it may turn out like that.
I'll have to bring our camera along with me on one of my runs soon, too!
. . .
I've just looked at your log, Bob - you are one tough guy, going out after being so sick. And, to help keep you cheered you up, I'll mention that your recovery pace is the same as my tempo!

Nice photos Bob, thanks for sharing. That last photo of the track, like the other photos looks like such great places to run. It makes me want to move to the country. In fact, i've been feeling more and more like getting out of the city, but who knows. Ah, looks so peaceful!
I'm a little jealous.

Carl, definitely take some pics of your finished construction project, and garden. I once saw someone who made a garden out of busted up pieces of cement blocks and concrete, and it was awesome. A little imagination goes a long way.
Chris, I wonder if running on a nice track like that would make the workout hurt any less?
If you move to the country, you'll have to look the part by growing back your mustache and hair. Speaking of which, how did the job interview go last week?

great pictures Bob! I also really like that sign on the bridge- very funny! Glad you're getting to run so much again- that's great!
Carl- I also look forward to seeing some construction pics when you get some. Some friends of mine in CO did that zeroscaping (or something like that- not sureon the spelling) where there's no grass (or very little) to save water but it looks beautiful. Helps that the guy is very into bonsai
Chris- sorry the heat is oppressing you so much but sounds like you're getting some good lake runs in! All that about Puerto Rico fest was funny- I would've been so annoyed by that all weekend since its right in my old 'hood. We need to plan a short lake run for July - maybe a Sunday recovery run before I go to the airport?
All is well in California- I fit in very well in Davis, as anticipated and am meeting lots of great people and there is lots of amazing stuff to do. Been going to SF to see friends, backpacking in Tahoe, climbing quite a bit again and running through beautiful hayfields at sunset. My foot sucks and I can't get an appointment w/ the pod until July so for now, I'm following my sports-med-doctor/roommate's advice. I only get 15 m/week in but I've been doing the elliptical a lot which is keeping me sane, and climbing is a full body workout. And I'm fixing my bike this weekend so that will get added in too. Work is good too- I just got a training grant fellowship, so that's very exciting! Now, if only I could run more, life would be perfect...
Glad to see everyone's doing well!

Glad to hear things are going well in Cali, Katie! Those Hayfield runs sound so peaceful. I don't know about the heat (but you know i'm not a fan of that). Hopefully I'll be able to visit sometime when i move back out that way, and you can show me some good trails.
I hope the foot feels better, in time for November!
And is your bike fixed yet? You should join Carl and I in our effort to reduce our reliance on oil.
Good to hear from you out there,
C

Thanks Chris!
We'll find a nice 50 miler to do "together" (and by that, I mean start together and I'll finish a few short hours behind you) many months from now when you're Mr. Chris Lane (hee hee) and y'all are living out here.
Bike is still broken- I'm taking it to "The Bike Church" tomorrow - a grassroots group where they teach you how to fix things yourself for a small donation. When I took it on Sat, they couldn't find their "chain tool"...
First, why can't I get a link to my log to show up on here? Does it just not show up to me or is it also hidden to y'all? I tired to change it so that only people in my groups (and not just anyone) could see it but I must've messed it up...
Also, what the heck does "DH" stand for? Everyone writes it and I can't figure it out. I'm not too into the abbreviations (unless I'm texting) so a lot of them fly right by me.

You're welcome Katie!
Humm, a 50 miler together huh. I'd be up for it. However, i seem to recall finishing several minutes behind you at the last ultra we ran.
That bike church sounds like a handy resource, I'm glad to hear you're taking advantage of it!
When you set your log to "show to groups only" then "view log" doesn't appear under your name, but it is visible in the 'reports' section. (Bob taught me about that - thanks Bob). If you make it visible to all, then it'll appear under your name again. Don't worry though, we know how to find it.
I think DH is being commonly used for 'dear husband'. I could be wrong though. It could be 'dumbshit husband'. I've been out of the forum loop for a while now.
Love the new avatar. Don't you miss those windy/snowy/28 degree runs on the lake?
