nervous (Read 43 times)

I'm getting jittery about the DE100 on 9/20.

Although I've gotten in some good running and cross training this summer, I'm feeling somewhat undertrained and overwhelmed. I keep reading that the second half of these things is more of a mental challenge than a physical one, so I'm hoping to be able to turn down this mind just enough to finish.

My family will be there with me, so at least I won't have to face this thing alone the whole time.

Good luck Carl! It seems like you are much more well-read and informed on Ultras than I am so I don't know what advice I can offer. But it seems like every time you put your mind to something, you do it! I hope it goes really well and I can't wait to read the race report. I guess the thing to do is set your various goals (I know Chris and I would set primary, secondary, tertiary, etc. goals) and make the first one something like, "don't get injured" Smile I always try to make my first one something I feel pretty sure I can do- ha ha. Sorry I can't offer more advice but I'll be rooting for you and hope it goes great!!!

PS- good luck Chris with your upcoming cross country move! It will be great to be in the same time zone!

Thanks, Katie - I appreciate the encouragement. Especially for the don't-get-injured goal - I'll bump that one up to the top!

And thanks also for the reminder that Chris is moving. Chris, here's hoping that the process goes well for you both and that you find all sorts of great places to run right away. Although I wasn't running much at all when we lived out west, I'm thinking that the trails there will be fantastic.

Amazing discoveries await!

Hello Portland!
I'm sure you'll do great Carl!
I know we've all felt undertrained at some point, but still managed to run a good run. I'm sure it is just the nerves, and that you'll do great!

We'll be thinking good thoughts for you on the 20th,
Chris
Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention...Science has it all. -Skinner

How did it go Carl?! I hope it was great and that you are not having to sit in an ice bath Smile Look forward to hearing the story when you're up for it!

Thanks, Katie! Today, I'm sitting in my office chair and trying to remember to get up at least once an hour to keep things moving. Over lunch, I wrote up a report and posted it in the racing area. Here's a link to the story:
