Hello Portland!

Nene's Cafe to the Foot Statue is about 11 miles. I'd better start running to get prepared. Also, it's going to be upper 80's this weekend, so we'd have to park a car at each end and one-way it. Or else, we'll carry water, which is cool to. Just let me know what day.
I've also been secretly wanting to run the entire lakefront out-and-back before i left the midwest. My miles are so low now, it's not going to happen. But it sounds like fun right?
Carl: Yeah planning on getting married before i move away from Chicago. Yep, been here for 3 years, and it's been fun, but i'm ready to be back in the pacific NW. I miss the rain, and the trees, and the mountains!
The move starts in two months.
Also for the rest of you, JC stands for Journal Club. It's like a book club, but for nerds (ours in every other Thursday at noon).
Hope the foot is well Katie!

MTA (I messed up quoting Chris... above)
Oh no, JC stands for Jesus! Just kidding
Sorry about that- I forget sometimes.
I can't run 11 miles- I can't run at all. I mean I *could* run 11 (also, aren't the water fountains on?) if I could run, but I cannot. According to the doctor. Until it gets better. Unless I want surgery. Which only has a 60% success rate.
Also, amazing idea about out-and-back on the lakefront!!! I wish we'd thought of that back in the day!
Glad you like Portland (fb updates)!! Want to hear more about it when I SEE you this weekend!
Hope everyone else is doing welll!

Katie,
Sorry to hear about your feet. I've had plantar fasciitis on and off for a few years. Although I'm too cheap to buy a Strassburg sock, I recently began imitating one using duct tape and old socks. Now that I've figured out the tension, the problem seems to be ebbing.
Also, for about a year I've been doing ten reps of a ten-second pullback on the toes of both feet each morning before standing. (Even when the cat's meowing like crazy to go outside. Which he does like every night that I forget to put him out before going to sleep.)
The original site that I got it from isn't up anymore, but here's one that describes the stretch pretty well:
PF stretch
Chris,
Congrats on getting engaged, and on deciding to move to your home territory. The rain, trees, and mountains sound great, and being married is always an adventure!
Finally, to bring this around full circle, barefoot pushups seem stretch out the old PF pretty well!
MTA a fixed link.

Thanks for the stretching ideas Carl. I stretch quite a bit already but it never hurts to add more of them! I've got a thing like the sock to sleep in at night, which I do sometimes... That's a great idea to just make one! Same thing and much less pricey!
Mostly, I rely on my orthotics, icing & stretching and will probably get custom orthotics next month (when I can afford it). That's lucky that you can run through it! I could for a while but it finally got the better of me. grrr.
Thanks for the link to the PF discussion Chris! I have read that and even though Jake swears by them, I find them to be about the same as my "Powerstep" ones that I bought a 2nd pair of. They make different widths though so I think I'm going to get some Superfeet for my climbing shoes (as if they're not small enough already).
fb = facebook. Didn't you put your status update as-- something about you loving Portland. That's where I thought I saw it anyways.
We can talk about something less depressing than my feet
Thanks for the support though!
Whoops- MTA fixed spelling errors.
