Welcome New Members! (Read 60 times)

Hello Portland!
Just wanted to say hello to the new folks. Everyone here is super-friendly, so feel to join in on the chit-chat.

Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention...Science has it all. -Skinner

What chit- chat, Chris? Wink Just kidding around since we've all been a little on the quiet side lately (I'm very guilty of that). Welcome from me as well, new members! Any New Years resolutions? (That question's for everybody).

Things are going pretty well here- my feet and everything seems to be holding up well under the increased mileage to get ready for the Feb marathon but I'm still a little worried by my experience with the heat. Nothing I can do about it though!

Bob- thinking of you and hoping you're on the mend!

Carl- are you still being kept super busy with all of your other family obligations and various physical activity? I'm sure you are. I got that book you suggested (in the Readers forum)- can't wait for it to come!

Hi Jackie and Jill too!

Great! The film version of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner finally made it through the interlibrary loan system, so I watched it last night. Although I may not have enjoyed it as much without having first read the story, it was a well-made movie, with some good editing to illustrate the stream-of-consciousness elements. Made me think again about which side I'm on, also.

I've been crazy busy still, but I'm not letting go of my goal to get a good base this winter. I left my watch at home, so today's trot will be for distance only, which is just as well because all the slush on the road beside the RR tracks will be, interesting.

Hello, new members, as well!

Modified to add:
The run was fun; less snow/slush but more water and squishier cinders than I had thought. Katie--enjoy those ultra stories!

happy new year everyone!

oh man, i feel like a fatass - today was my first run in forever and all i did over vacation was eat and eat and eat. i suppose i went surfing a couple of times in san diego, but that's too fun to count as exercise! carl, it sounds like your running conditions are a little squishy... how is everyone dealing with winter running? chris i know you revel in the cold...

Hey, Jackie--at least you keep returning! And, as far as surfing goes, I would skip any run for a day in the ocean. And I'd log it, too!

Today's running was almost perfect. The Chinook has mostly dried out everything, and the air feels like April's. My only complaint is that the sun glared too bright and made it hard to see through my glasses on the return leg. That would be a mighty weak complaint except that I nearly ran into the semi-friendly homeless man who's often walking along the route.

No worries Jackie- that's great that you're getting out there and surfing's a good place to meet hot guys, isn't it? Wink just kidding.

Carl- glad you're getting the nice weather we had! Makes me wish Spring was a little closer around the bend. Glad to hear "Lonelines..." is good- its on my list- I love the book! Its short too. I've also got "4 Minutes" on my list- anyone seen it?

I'm dealing with winter running by buying gear that makes me feel/look cool while running in freezing temps. (I'm only partially kidding). I don't really like the weather but haven't skipped a planned outdoor run yet b/c of it, so that's pretty good.

Where's Bob? Are you out there? I'm getting worried about you!

I checked in Bob's log, and it looks like he's either heading to run Disney this weekend or waiting for a tendon injury to heal. Either way, I hope the foot's feeling better.
