How bout some iced tea? I was impressed with a recent campaign extolling the attributes of hibiscus tea. Specifically "Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger". Studies claim a significant blood pressure lowering benefit from regular use. I can actually confirm this effect. Seriously! I will say, however, that it's an acquired taste thing at best. First few batches tasted simply awful, but now I can "tolerate" it. (If not for the bp lowering..no way!) I take mine neat, without sugar, lemon, etc. The stuff works as advertised, at least from my experience, which is good enough for me!
Recent tea study, or rehash of ancient herb? Hope you bounce back quickly, Jimmy. You seem to be experiencing some challenging times. Have you got your treadmill up and running yet? Sounds like a useful alternative to Mother Nature's heat/humidity. lg
Lowgear,
I assume you are drinking it cold. Have you tried it hot?

Nice break from the straight run: 10' warm-up @ HR 128-143 (using MAF of 143), 6x(1' @ HR 138-143 + 1' walk), 10' cool down @ HR 100-138; 3.35 miles total. Lovin' the new Garmin 305 gift for fathers' day and the compatibility/utility of the Running Ahead training log.
The hard thing was transitioning from the walk back into the 138-143 HR without shooting right through the zone which, you can see, took me several intervals to get it right. Nonetheless, it felt good to mix it up today. Wx is sunny, 70 deg F, dew pt about 45 deg F, slight northerly breeze, but I ran in an area protected somewhat by a bluff. Would like to have gone longer...

Bob,
I actually did have a go at that, but taste-wise there wasn't much improvement to me!
I believe that the "Red Zinger" is the only one documented to reduce blood pressure. I could be wrong, though.
I should google that. Almost picked up the "Raspberry Zinger" today for taste comparison. Seems they have
every flavor under the sun?!

Tim,
Nice run. Yeah the Garmin 305 is hard to beat. You'll love it, I'm sure.
You guys are having some of the best weather in the nation. Just heard a report that the Seattle area has been unusually free of rain for a long spell now. Go figure.

Yeah, we had a 29 day stretch, from official recording at Seatac airport starting May 19th, of no measurable precip and many sunny days in the 70s - near 80s. Some locales made it 30 days, but the weekend did bring some needed precip, especially as we enter fire season in the mountains. The garden was a bit thirsty as well. We've settled into our somewhat normal June pattern of cloudy mornings and partly sunny-sunny afternoons with occasional showers. July 5th starts our summer in earnest...

Sounds like you are under the weather - what a bummer!
The Southern summers are not easy to handle - the heat and humidity can get the best of us on any given day. Stay cool and move slowly. If you feel like dried potatoes it must be a Northern feeling - I am not familiar with it - down here we feel like fried potatoes!
A little better today. My RHR is still high, and I have no appetite, but nausea and headache is gone. Living on water and Pedialyte. I'll resume training once my RHR is normal. I have no idea what I meant by "dried potatoes", Flower. No idea. It made sense at the time, but absolutely none today.

It Is What It Is
LG, feeling heavy - looks like the weather is stifling (sp?). Makes us all feel heavy - I am heavy just thinking about it!!
I am trying to take it easy and chill a little. I've been so enthused by my new training regimen that I have gotten carried away a bit and I am feeling some sore spots that I don't really want to feel - old injured areas, not so great memories involved. This time around I will take better care of myself than I did in the past when I thought I should push through it. I may have to take an extra day off and/or postpone a long run. It can be done and it is not the end of the world. Just part of being a smart runner, isn't it?!
Be smart out there today, will ya'!
