    JogTracker© anyone?
    I likey

This is a nice/free application for certain "smart" phones.
I discovered it out of necessity.

It's said: "Necessity is the mother of invention".
While not truly an invention, and certainly not mine, the
    necessity qualifier Is valid..

My beloved Garmin had become increasingly balky.
Button presses that used to be crisp and responsive
    were becoming hesitant and unreliable.

    Exploratory surgery seemed indicated.
Confident and scrubbed, I proceeded, Hippocratic Oath, notwithstanding.

Any loose connections would be repaired quickly, closure realized,
sutures applied, and just like on TV, all would be right with the world.
Unfortunately, as the procedure became increasingly invasive, my hands
started to tremble. This was clearly beyond my wage scale.
Time to abort.. Anybody need a low mileage 305 fixer-upper?

Just yesterday, JogTracker had me going 13:06 m/m pace, while
backup, Polar watch recorded 13:25 m/m pace (for the same run!)

So what's not to like about it?   Cool

    I like-did-it !!

FWIW, you can easily verify which one is correct, simply by dividing the total time (in minutes) by total distance (in miles).

There are only a few possibilities here:

      • The discrepancy is caused by a difference in measured distance
      • There is something wrong with the formula used by either watch to calculate pace

I suspect the JogTracker yielded a longer distance than the Polar watch.

I personally use a Nike+ Sportswatch.  Generally, I'm satisfied with what it gives me, but I don't trust its real-time pace monitoring at all - it consistently reads out paces that are much faster (tens of seconds) than the pace for the entire km lap.

        Thanks Ken,

Yeah, there are certain anomalies inherent in most of these devices/programs.

I believe most of it stems from the "sampling" rates of the gps unit; especially

around tight curves, like seen on track ovals.

A good work-around seems to be relying on a particular lane of the track for

consistent distances, and simply clocking a run that way. Low tech, but

effective. Just need to be flexible dodging walkers, though I never seem to

        catch up with them!
