I did a MAF test today. My times have improved over my last months test, but overall I'm still a lot slower than when I first started. I know a lot of factors come into play like weather, stress, hydration, overtraining, etc but I"m hoping I'm on track to see more improvements next month. I've been LHR training now for about 5 months Anybody else experience results like these? All these were done outside on a track with varying weather conditions.
Are you logging all your miles?
Dr. R
I didn't start logging all of my miles on RA until mid-December, so Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec are not accurate totals.
I also had an it band issue in November, I increased mileage over a short period of time. I lowered my MAF and mileage until i had no pain (mid Dec) and since then I've been increasing mileage gradually.

John,
I think you made a very smart move to cut back until your injury healed. By the looks of things, you just need to build your time volume back up. I've seen that kind of drop in aerobic fitness when I've cut mileage or rested like you did. I can usually maintain for a week or two, but anything longer it takes a nosedive. You'll eventually will hit a volume where you will see substantial progress.

Decker Challenge 12/12
bob e v 2012 goals: keep on running! Is there anything more than that?
Finish 2 halves, 3M Half 1/29 and probably Decker Challenge in Dechistory: blessed heart attack 3/15/2008; c25k july 2008 first 5k 10/26/2008, 62nd birthday; 1st 10k 2/28/2009 - 50 wks from heart attack to 10k; 1st Half Marathon 11/9/09 20 months from heart attack! !

Any number of things could explain this spike, including my fav - a recent bout of maf+ explosions. Think fartlek. Otherwise, putting to rest "over-training" issues, and the like could explain. Anyway, it's been a blast.!
Now to build mileage. Slowly of course.
An Maf test might be in order. (I did one of those, once).
After all, this is not my first rodeo. Did I mention that already? Sorry.
Ahh the LG posts. Good stuff Husker. And yes, alas the Mid Atlantic gets hit hard but they get to look forward to a warm spring while we in the Midwest will still be fighting 30mph winds and 20 degrees.
Clay - get better soon. Better to not run and heal properly. The road will always be waiting and welcome your return with open medians.
The experiment continues - running by time and no HR monitor but only by feel. Mostly <145 based on my previous experience. I will MAF test tomorrow and post some results prior to my first 5k of the season this Sat.
Legs feel worked but not stressed.
Onward and upward.
Ron - take care of that back! We only have one of those!
Had to use dreadmill this am because of snow in north Texas! We had an inch of wet stuff on the ground. Did maf-5 for 1mi after warm up and decided I wasn't enjoying it and quit. To warm... am now sitting in bed watching out the window as it continues to snow. We have close to 6in on my deck with another 1-2 tonight. Will probably be an all time record for Dallas/Fort Worth. Good thing tomorrow is my rest day!
C-R - am not at the point of running w/o looking at the hrm yet. Will be interested to see how the maf test turns out.

Hey Bobev, Caught the report of snow in the DFW neighborhood. That can be a bit of a crisis for you folks. I had an ocassion several years ago while traveling through during an ice storm. Not pretty. Isn't there a big all star basketball game coming up at your new stadium. Heard somthing to that effect on the Dennis Miller radio show. Sounds pretty wild. Attendance has got to be unreal! Be careful if you need to drive! lg
