Low HR Training

MAF Test #2 (Read 19 times)

I am excited about my 2nd MAF test results. I didn't think I would see that much of an improvement when I started this. Almost a minute difference for the average pace. I am hoping I can get back down to my old (non MAF) training pace. I do need to really try harder to keep my HR below my MAF HR which is 150, but it just creeps up sometimes.

      Hello Soleful

Those results look really good. It shouldn't be a problem when the HR creeps up above MAF from time to time. I run into that as well. Just back off a little or even walk for a few seconds and let it come back down. Main thing is to be honest with your self and stay within your range as much as possible. If going uphill, walk if necessary. And let it fly a bit when going downhill.

I've been working on this for several months now myself. I am finding that if I stay on flat ground, I am walking less and running more. When I first started it was quite discouraging to have to walk so much. But to my delight, things are improving and I am actually running the whole 5 mile MAF test now.

Keep going. In time your aerobic and anerobic conditioning will be more in balance. You will need that aerobic conditioning for when you start training for marathons.

Without adequate aerobic conditioning, running 26.2 miles will be a memorable experience. Just not in a good way.

I intend to live forever . . . or die trying.
