Crater Lake Marathon - Aug 9 - Klamath Falls, OR Apparently Chuck Engle can run, but he can't tell direction... After having a 3-1/2 minute lead at the 25 mile mark, Engle ran past a not-yet-setup turnaround point as unprepared volunteers watched the leader go by and failed to direct him toward the finish line. Engle tells us that when his Garmin read 28 miles he realized something was up, a feeling that was confirmed as a race motorcycle caught up to him and told him that he had missed the turn. As it is the responsbility of runners to know the course - a problem most of us won't have to deal with as we don't lead these races - Engle was out of luck and eventually made it to the finish line in fifth place in 3:11:27.
