Here's an important tip to avoid being tired during marathon training: avoid 3-day bachelor party weekends at Foxwoods Casino Confused

I rearranged my schedule to get my 20-miler out of the way on Friday (good move) and proceeded to stay up through the night until 5:30 Saturday morning (bad move). I tried to be the mature one and get some sleep Sat night, but was not very successful and it took me until today (Tuesday) to even think about running. How to you all handle these "special occasions" that come up in the middle of training? I am still off schedule because the rehearsal dinner and wedding are this weekend (not my wedding!). Do you just skip a run so you don't end up overtaxing your body and making the whole event super-stressful? If so, I'm going to need some affirmation from this gang telling me it's OK. Please tell me you skipped a few runs and still ran a PR. Any lie that will minimize my guilt!

I do what you did. Move the long run, dont worry about the rest too much. For a weekend like the up coming one-- I had a mom's beach retreat weekend during training and no way in HELL was I spending 3+ hours on sunday doing a long run and I cant do my long run mid week so for the whole week before I added a couple miles to my runs. So I ended up with the same weekly mileage that week, but every run was 9 miles. Which was taxing in a whole different way doing back to back to back to back 9 milers. I think I may integrate that into training next time. I do get super protective of my schedule the last few weeks. Nearly bit dh's head off when he had to take my last saturday and I had to move my saturday 11 mile pace run to friday. Finally compromised and had him take dd to school so I at least didnt have to get up at 4:30 to fit it in. It is hard to run pace in the dark. Very ticked that his work is having him work saturday mornings for the rest of the month. When is your marathon?

OH, and if it makes you feel better I have completely lost WEEKS of training to illness including one of my 20's last year and still PR'd Big grin

Are you the other end of my niece's wedding?? Evil grin

I hosted a bachelorette party this past wknd (16 ridiculous young ladies & copious amts of alcohol!!) for the wedding this coming wknd...I got in my 18 - barely! before they started landing, but DH didn't get his run - in light taper as one of his HM's is this next wknd - right behind the wedding! we've taken to running when we can....& hoping it'll all pan out...

I just HTFU'd and ran. I had to do the long bachelor party + long run weekend in May. Sleep wasn't the issue for me since we got a good 4-5 hours each night (well morning at least). The problem I had was I barely ate anything all weekend besides beer and had nothing but crackers on sunday during the 3 hour drive home. I was starving but if I ate I knew I would have to wait to long to run and then it wouldn't happen. I did 18 miles on sunday evening right after getting home and not having eaten more then just crackers and water in 18 hours. I've had better runs but I was glad to get the miles in. On the wedding day I did decide to skip the 10 mile race I wanted to run in the morning. That probably would of been crazy of me to try and run. I still got all my runs in that weekend though. The day after the wedding was just slower at later in the day then usual.

Ok, I did that....to a point! Two wknds, back to back: stuff w/weddings, Oktoberfest, DH's HM (which I volunteered for), season closing ballgame (family diplomacy madates), squeezing in two of my longest runs around errands, cleaning whole house top to bottom, fighting w/errant lawn mower (new one needed next searon for sure!), explaining to GD#1 why we couldn't make her first cheerleading debut @ Invesco Field...& at least two awful nights of insomnia.....I'm now on my 3rd day of "rest" & still feel like I've been hit by a truck w/no ambition whatsoever to go even for a 2 miler.... Black eye
