Hi Susan! good luck in your race, Mary. be careful out there. thanks, Holly. I am being careful. At least I'm getting to wear my winter running clothes. Yes I'm doing it in irregular sections. neighbors probably think I'm nuts. Erika had blurred vision again? I'm glad you put in Stevep's link. I was enjoying his ™ post, & hadn't noticed it. Steve, cool! maybe not such a bad choice for your shirt. Your identity is safe with us. Lou, happy about your knee. yay, PBJ.
good luck in beantown pbj! summer is on the way breger... good training today Wink 0600 37f 7mi w/10x400m (100 jog) avg 1:25 (:45 jog) had a big group of seven guys out for today's track workout... everyone wanted to start the year off with an interval session. had planned to run 1:30's, and did for the first four... and after that the testosterone was too much and we raced a few faster ones... oops. felt relaxed, no injury; so a good workout even if too fast.

      Hill Runner

Happy New Year everyone! No snow here...45F and sunny, no wind, perfect way to start the New Year We spent a quiet evening at home watching the tube.. DS was one of the revelers in Times Square last night and we were hoping to spot him on Anderson Cooper 360 last night...LOL 8.06 miles of hills @ 8:40 pace...what started out as an easy run turned into a hill tempo run. It was exciting to run on such a beautiful sunny day instead of in darkness, so I just let go a little this morning. I figured if I have any problems they would show up after this run... I did something a little different this morning. Instead of going right inside I decided to walk 1 untimed mile. I think that it might have helped to alleviate some potential AT problems..we'll see...feels good so far. Have great runs today.

        Upcoming Races:

        Boston Marathon, Boston,MA 04/15/13
        Grandfather Mountain Marathon,Boone NC 07/14/13
Thunder Road Marathon, Charlotte NC 11/13

Good Morning and Happy New Year all! Great runs and workouts already out there folks...Good stuff! Inspired by MC's post yesterday (that was fabulous!!) and a desire to beat the next storm (snowing like mad now), I did my Wednesday workout today. Total of 12.6 miles in 1:50 with 5x4 minutes at 7:15-7:25 pace with a 2 minute "rest" in between each pick-up. Coach wants me feeling race pace and trying not to rest too much---so the 2 minute segments were run at 8 minute pace. If I still had juice, the last mile could be a visualization mile with focus on keeping my elbows close to my body (not my usual chicken dance form) and my knees high. I did that last mile with glee. It was a heavy sky 20F run with swirling flakes in the last mile. All good though...some of my favorite men were along for the ride---Bryan Ferry, Steve Winwood, Andre 3000, Sun Ra, and even some Fine Young Cannibals. Some Ladies with serious lungs escorted me home---Sweet Honey in the Rock, Chaka Khan and the Spelman College Gospel Choir. I am happy, tired and ready for hockey watching (my son's tournament) and shoveling. Back to school and work and all that tomorrow. Ciao for now CNY

I can't believe that I am starting the new year off with a run...while not 100% yet, my foot seems to have healed itself overnight...and I am happy. Talked myself out of a run last night...and glad I did. I think I would of set self back again. But, woke up this a.m. and off I went.... 4.16 in 56:45 for an avg. 13:37 m/m. Started out strong and had to slow myself down to go the 4. I could feel my foot getting cranky at the "quicker" pace. According to garmin I did 2.47 miles of my 4 at an avg 13 m/m. Yippee Splits: 13:51, 13:18, 13:43, 13:45 Foot seems to be ok.... and I know that I am feeling better when I stop my garmin at 4 miles and think that if I had just run another 4 min. it would of been a full 60.....how quickly we forget the pain Big grin May this new year bring you all that you wish for and more.

            Trails Rock!

An hour on snowshoes.. What a run...difficult but beautiful. You poor southerners who never get to experience this. The heavy white snow in the trees perched precariously over your head as you dart the weaving trail as light snow pelts your eyebrows..just awesome... Time for some core work then the true Canadian workout..........shovelling (my driveway then my ladies who is off skiing until tomorrow...) les exigences de l'amour... mais je le fait avec plein d'enthousiasme. Enjoy the day my friends Tall

Happy New Years to all my cyber running friends. I hope it will be a good year for each and every one of you. On sunday, wa5yom reported that Pfitz called 16 miles a MLR. That may be ok for the elites, but for me, that would be a real long run. My penguin like outlook is that long run is a phrase that needs to take into account the individual doing it. Right now, I try to do a 12 miler each week and consider that a long run. I remember, though, when I thought a mile was a long run. Speaking of long runs, congratulations fbgrrl on your longest to date. You have every right to be proud of your progress. DH, I join those who was glad to see you are going to see a doctor about your leg pains. I hope they come up with something to alleviate the problem. biketm, sorry to hear about your calf problems. You're making a good choice to cross train while healing. Congrats to all who reported mileage PRs for the month or year. I know I saw oldguy (month and year0, Evan (year), fussyrunner (month), evryday (month), and PJH (year). I suspect there were others who didn't mention it, but congrats to you, also. Nice races, hallar and roch (best race pace ever). Nice long runs for sarge, wa5yom, evryday, Tammy, Evan, mc, MustangSally, Twocat, PBJ, Holly, breger, and CNY (with speedwork). Good job on the speedwork breger and mc. This morning, I awoke to 6-8 inches of snow and some wind. Not being as tough as many of our Canadian and Alaskan brethren or Holly, I did the TM in the basement and watched the weather reports as part of the local news and the Today show. I got in 8 miles at 1% and 6.7 mph (8.57/mi). I followed that with some snow clearing for cross training. A good day and good runs for all. TomS
Today I got up raring to go, ready to start pursuit of my 2008 fitness goals. I dressed and drove to the gym ... to find it closed for the holiday. Oh well. Then I drove by the school track, and found it covered with snow. Not that I could probably run much anyway, with my bad leg--probably I need to use the elliptical, which is locked up in the gym. It's great that Tallrunner and others can continue to run in the snow, or snowshoe. One of my goals, ever since I heard about Tall's walkabouts in the Canadian wilds, has been to go on a hiking trip with Tall. However, if the food ran short, I am sure he would not hesitate to kill me and convert me into pemmican teriyaki. Maybe it's for the best that he stays up there in the harsh North Woods and I stay down here in the soft southland. Dark Horse

Happy New Year!! Five mile race/ fun run. Unofficial time 41:53:52 (8:23 pace). Brunch at one of the group's member's home, following. Placed 11th among 30-40 runners. Conditions were 41 degrees F with mostly cloudy skies and fairly strong winds out of the northeast. I'm satisfied with the results and content with beginning the new year in such a way. Have a great day Masters and Boomers alike!!! Chris

I am not nearly as tough as those Northerners either...5.5 miles on the treadmill as it was only 3 degrees this morning. It is beautiful out though with gorgeous blue skies and still tons of snow...but also lots of ice! Happy New Year to you all. Good health, good fortune and most important ....be good to YOU!

Nice race Chris. Liz, things are looking up, so happy for you. CNY, those "wave" runs are great training, nice workout. The two "off" minutes run at 8's are a good conditioner. MC, how close are you to your goal race? And Breger, are you training for anything right now? When is it? I walked 5.5 on dirt, briskly, and included 1.1 miles of easy jogging. So far, no discomfort, but with PF if it comes it will be tonight. We'll see. Spareribs

Ah, Beerger, you'll acclimate to the H&H soon enuf, but sorry to hear about the pacing problem. Something I deal with (poorly) on a regular basis, as you've noticed. Holly, always carry da phone on long runs...! Thanks for the link to Steve's story, I missed that too. deb, just hard to see thru the frost and it was getting dark. I can see the trail in front of me easy enough, but focusing on distance gets hard. Might need to check into those ski goggles... Tall, I agree... usually. I like the variety of the seasons, I just wish winter wasn't so long. But that's the price I pay for less traffic and such... Since I ran yesterday (only 5 miles...) I'm not sure I will today. Might ride my bike in the back room. Our dog ran off last night while we were gone. The fireworks started a bit early in the neighborhood and I didn't tie her up when we left to visit my brother. She was gone when we got back and hasn't returned. She's terrified of the fireworks and I was stupid to leave her out alone. Cry I'll be checking the animal shelter and neighborhood roads later today when it gets light out...
