Are these guys fast? (Read 193 times)

I was going to post this question in the "general running" area, but I will ask you guys first...... I ran with a group of six guys about my age, all between 55 and 62 years old, last night. It was a wednesday night social run offered by the local running store. I had previously met only one of them, who I knew very slightly, so after introductions we set off and cruised along at a conversational pace, chatting about the one interest we obviously had in common; running. I learned they all had much more running experience than I have, from 6 to 32 years, so asked questions to hear some of their stories. Most if not all had run Boston at least once, and other famous races, two of them had rcently BQ'ed in 3:31 and 3:41. Their half times, which I asked about so I could make a comparison, averaged about 1:35, which I thought was pretty decent. Looking up the WADA age grading table I see that for a 58 year old man to run 1:35 in the half is equivalent to a 30 year old running 1:18, which I guess is not elite, perhaps not sub-elite, but better than the average cigarette smoking dog walking golfer could do, and better than me! So the question is: are these guys serious, competitive club runners, average guys who have been at it a while, weekend duffers, or should they try something less demanding, like watching sports on tv? How do your times compare, corrected for age and gender, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks!

    PBs since age 60:  5k- 24:36, 10k - 47:17. Half Marathon- 1:42:41.

                                        10 miles (unofficial) 1:16:44.

Well, er, if weekend duffers could run Boston, then everyone would be doing it.... As for how my times compare, I have no idea how to adjusted for gender and age, but I'm pretty sure you could put me in the "average gal who works hard at it" category.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

I'd say they are a bit above average but nothing special, funnily enough have a look at the link below which is an age graded result for a half I did last weekend. I came 21st age graded but on time only I came 85th out of just over 400. Sorry about the way it looks but I couldn't seem to get the link to work! Results for All Competitors in age grading order.
