Saturday 13 March Runs, etc. (Read 329 times)

FINALLY. A run that didn't seem to fight me every step of the way. I've been having some pretty sluggish runs of late, trying to ramp up my miles. This morning I managed to find a little sproink in my legs, to finish my last two miles at MP and HMP, respectively.

    6.3 easy, last 2 at 7:51 and 6:55.

There's been a lot of really strong running 'round here as of late....I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Nice run Walt......I know what you mean by struggling thru those sluggish periods.....I've finally come to learn that they do pass and really has nothing to do with your fitness level.

Two area races today. A 5k and an 8k.......I'm opting out of both. I'm not a fair weather runner, I'll run in most anything....but the rain has just dampend my racing spirits today.  Might do a sit and spin while watching a movie this morning and sneak out later for a run.

      Happy Running !

Locally a Elton John concert had tickets go on sale yesterday at 10am, at 10:10 only the most expensive tickets were left then at 10:20 they were gone too, ,  300 people still in line were not to happy.

9.2 miles w/DW in the rain

Heard this a couple days ago and today's run made me think of it.

Experience teaches some the patience to wait out the storm

While others learn it's OK to dance in the rain

          Have a wonderful Saturday!!!

Courage ! Do one brave thing today...then run like hell.

            yay, a Walt start!

drive by post, no time to read even these few...

10.25 in the windy rain by the river yippee!!

Sarge and dg. if it is raining around where you are anything like it is raining here you guys must have "swum those runs!"

My DW and her friends at the Jogger's Club we all no shows at this morning's meet up due to the torrential rains here.  I was so confident that would happen that I deep sixed the muffin baking yesterday.  That despite the fact that I had a pile of ripe baby bananas!  Now I have to eat a pile of baby bananas for breakfast!  Oh well.  Instead I tried out a recipe for Irish Soda Bread.  Turns out the stuff is easy, and boy do I mean easy, to make!  Tasted great too.  Maybe I will make a green one for Wednesday!

EGH, sorry to hear of the aggravated tendinitis.  PDR, I feel for dawndaughter2 and the wisdom teeth.  steve, you sure had a stressful day yesterday.  derrick, it's nice to hear from you.  Walt, nice run this morning.  Sarge, it's neat you got to run with your wife.

Nice long run this morning, dg.  We had wind and threatening rain.  When I went out, I had a few drops hit me then they stopped and didn't come back for the rest of the run.  It was in the low 40s when I went out.  I got in 8 miles in a little under 1:21:30 for a 10:10 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.

So, we're having another torrential storm here at the coast of NJ.  And all those complaining about the snow we had earlier are probably not really thrilled right now.  HORRIBLE conditions, and , rain hurts more than snowflakes (all I did was walk Renee).  The TV talking heads said if it were snow, we'd be looking at 36-60" of snow.  MAN could we build a big sledding hill with that headstart!

Anyway, 4 miles with the house singing (after winds reach 50 mph my house sings a bit) on the TM. My last hill sprints before next week's marathon.

                    Have good ones all!!

Well I'm not feeling bad for bagging the races today.......I just didn't have it.......or maybe the word sluggish from Walts post just got stuck in my head.

1.5 hr spin while watching "The Invention of Lying". Save your money........Took a shower, scanned the "To-Do" list and decided to go for a run. 6.89 windy and damp miles. Nice long workout at an easy effort that felt hard...

Off to change the oil in DD#1's car.....after throwing in a load of laundry and changing the cat litter......Need to get a hair cut.....got some items to post on Ebay.......Still haven't done DD#1's Taxes......and the yard looks like absolute crap. So glad there's weekends !

                        Good afternoon, gang!

Walt - glad you got some sproink back!

Denise - congrats on getting into the Beach to Beacon!

dg - nice run!  I'm assuming you felt OK since you did over 10 miles - way to go!!

                        TomS - nice 8 miler!!

nono - good luck with the marathon!!

Carolyn - yeah, my daily numbers do seem kind of random.  DH and I usually stop our workouts at the same time each morning so that we can shower and make it to our offices by 8:00.  The length of my workout depends on what time we get to the gym, and last week we were dog-sitting for a friend which threw off our usual schedule.  Left to my own devices, i prefer to stop on an even number.....

3 hours - 14.3 miles - on the treadmill this morning - watching the torrential rains that Twocat mentioned.  I started with a 5 minute walking/5 minute jogging but only lasted a half hour before I had to try something else (walking on the TM makes the bottom of my feet sore for some reason).  I switched to 2 minute walking/3 minutes jogging which seemed to do the trick.  Now if I can keep up that pace for 6 hours, I can finish the marathon before they close the course ;-).

DH is taking me to dinner tonight at a slightly more upscale restaurant than we usually frequent.  I told him the expected attire is "business casual", and he even offered to dress up (we're both jeans kind of people).  Don't know what's gotten into him, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

                        Good runs all!

                          Hi everyone!

We also had major rain here, but not torrential.  It was enough to make you really wet and slightly annoyed... sometime the lovely stinging kind.

But I'm happy to report that I got the long run in today on major hills.  This route is a climb, up, up, up and you don't really come straight back down.  This time I ran with people in my group that are a bit slower than me and that really helped on those hills.   I decided to try a fast finish and was happy with a couple of lows 9s mile 18 and 19 and then an 8 minute mile on mile 20.

Sarge, those tickets are available on StubHub.com for varying prices starting at $100. They sell out so fast because some people buy up blocks of tickets to resell at higher prices. We saw Elton John a couple years ago, not a full concert, just him and his piano and so many of our favorite old songs. Loved it.

Slo, I'd bag it too. I am a fair weather runner and hate running in rain... not a big fan of snow, but not much I can do about that.

Yay Kimmie on the long run! And hills, too! That's great, good job!

Nice sunny COLD day today. I think it's going to warm up next week, but this weekend's runs will be chilly. I'll wait till later this afternoon so the sun can do it's thing on the temperature before I start.

                            Marathon Maniac #957

Walt – nice run to start us out.

Slo – I’m with you on that decision.  I don’t like to race at all until the weather warms up.

Kimmie – nice fast finish 20-miler!  I think you are wrong about Boston – it is ME who won’t be able to keep up YOU!

                              Denise - great news!

5.15 slow and easy miles today (ave 10:39) in light wind and rain and 50°, folllowed by 72 push-ups (25+25+22)

The strange hip/butt/thigh pain is still there, but much diminished, now more like a slight dull ache, but it loosened up a lot after I warmed up.  I'm just being very careful - the last thing I want is a tendon injury right when the weather is starting to break, and this does so remind me of how it felt last time - sore for a few days in the same way and then that TEARING feeling right in the middle of some speedwork.

I will go ahead and do the 20-miler tomorrow, listening to it carefully.  If it seems to be pushing it, I still have room in the schedule to cut the run short and move my 20-miler to next week, with one more 2 weeks later and a 2-week taper to Boston.  I had hoped to try for a faster-finish tomorrow, but may just go for long and slow.  I’ve never gotten hurt with long and slow – only faster paces.  I think it’s too late to hope for a fast Boston anyway – my speedwork just hasn’t been there this cycle.

I splurged today and bought a pair of Sugoi running tights.  They feel SO GOOD, even though I feel sort of shy about the snug fit.  (I’ve always worn pants, not tights before.) I’m actually looking forward to the colder temps arriving tonight so I can try them out on my run tomorrow.  They might even be TOO WARM for the upper 30's that are forecast, but we'll see.

I got a call that my “personal chef and his assistants” will be arriving in an hour.      After dinner, we’re going to watch Four Christmases

                              Happy Saturday!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

It's too bad most of you are having wet weather today.  Our weather is absolutely gorgeous!  I went for a 7 mile trail run in 55° and sunshine, along a creek in the woods.  Delightful!  This was down in town, as our trails in the mountains are still snow covered, but I had to drive DD to town anyway for her usual Saturday theater set construction at school.  The only down side to my run was  that I rolled my ankle at about 6 miles and had to limp back to the car.  I'm icing it now.  But it was still a delightful day to be out limping on the trail.

Nice to see Walt and SloHand today!

Sue, is 3 hours on the treadmill or 3 hours on the elliptical worse? You sure are tough. You earned that dinner out tonight!

Kimmie, great fast finish long run!

Holly, hope you heal up soon!    Good luck finishing the 20 tomorrow - take it slow and easy, OK?

Where has Karin been?   And Eliz is missing in action again...

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.
