The Brinkster
Good Morning! I started this around 6:30 a.m. and then it disappeared.
Once again, the dogs heard the alarm clock and got me up this morning. I slept like a log last night, probably because momma Hailey didn't get up on the bed with us for some reason. 4 miles this morning. Naughty Brinkley picked up a smooshed old squirrel and would not drop it. I think he's been reading Tag's posts. I finally convinced him and told him there is no way you are kissing me with THAT mouth.
Slo - I am happy your reported about your daughter yesterday. That same thing happened to a friend of mine and it took a few days for the swelling to go down. Hopefully they will figure out what caused it in the first place.
Carolyn - I tend to beat myself up about my running today compared to last year, etc. Have to stop doing that.
Dg - you have a RA message.
Where is JLynne??
Another star-studded morning. Now to get ready for a fun filled day at work.

The legs are feeling a bit beat up and sore - partially from last week's vacation-induced "taper", probably somewhat due to 5 days of hard skiing last week, and partially from yesterday's fartlek 13 mile MLR. At any rate today and tomorrow will be slow recovery runs, to set me up for Saturday's fast finish LR. Gotta get this LR done. Boston is looming ...
3.5 recovery miles as slow as I could manage - avg HR 115.
I'm singing a solo Sunday with the Choir. Pray for me on that high A-flat. Gulp.

Morning Mary and the rest of the gang!
Mary - probably a good idea not to put your thoughts in writing. I like to write exactly what I think and then nuke the note - keeps me out of trouble. Brinkley has good taste and is still probably wondering why he couldn't have the smooshy squirrel ;-).
Slo - I'm relieved to hear DD is on meds and doing better. I too hope they can identify the cause. Thanks for the reminder about RAGBRAI - sounds like a blast.
Stumpy - I won't complain about my 40 mile commute any more.....
6 miles of walk/running on the TM this morning @ 12:20. I didn't get a chance to sneak in a core workout yesterday - that is my goal for lunch today.
There's a really cool "bike" being marketed in California - touted for use particularly by injured runners. Google "elliptigo" to see a photo/video. It is essentially an elliptical bike - so no seat - just platform pedals. Too bad it has a $2000+ price tag.
Good runs all!
Byll - I think that is my heart rate just getting out of bed in the morning!!
SueT - Yep, I've decided just to touch on some issues. There is no sense really diving into anything, because I've been there done this a few times now and nothing ever changes. It is a pretty sad state of affairs.
I've seen those elliptigos on TV. I too thought it'd be so kewl to have one until I saw the price tag. Yikes!

Worse today......DD#2......Her hands look like someone blew up latex gloves.....her feet the same. She can't walk with out assistance. Her rash is covering more of her body. She was looking pretty good at bed time but woke us up....again at midnight with her new symptoms........Waiting for a call from the Doc's office.
I'll post with an update but most likely will be much later......limited access to the internet today. My SIL is a pharmacist so has us making a list of possible culprits.
Outside of that......everyone enjoy the day.....great runs wished to all !

Wildchild – what Mary said.
Mary – do your dogs wake you to go out in the night? My Dexter has always been fine waiting until I get up in the morning, but Daisy has started getting into the habit of waking me at 2:30am to go out. She can go all day while we’re at work without having an accident, so I don’t know if she just gets bored and wants to go out and play with the night creatures. I’ve been crating Daisy the last few nights, trying to get her back in the habit of waiting till morning. Now all of a sudden, Dexter is also asking to go out in the middle of the night. I have to put them on leashes because if I just let them loose in the backyard, it’ll be a half-hour before I can get them back in, but standing outside in the night cold with them wakes me up thoroughly, and it takes me forever to get back to sleep.
Erika – way speedy, woman!
Leslie – Sounds like a good idea, but I would be inclined to use flour tortillas instead of corn. I think corn tortillas would be too crumbly.
7 easy-paced miles for me today in 36° (ave 10:17). I thought it was warmer than that, and so I underdressed and was cold for most of the run. Like Erika, I live on a hill and I think sometimes there can be 5-10° difference between my house and the river 2 miles away where I run.
Renee the dog
Oh Slo! Said a quick prayer on your dd's behalf! Hang in there. {{{ }}}
Holly, lo and behold -- Bayside has a "trial pack" of Zicam from some race bag. Going to see how it works today during our commute down to VA Beach. Thanks for taking the time to tell me about it. May jjust be exactly what I need!
Well, Dog is ready. Kids are more than ready. Bayside is doing conference calls on his day off. I've had the car packed since 6:30 a.m. Typical start to a vacation here!
Have fun everyone. I'll do my best out there Sunday. Will likely think of each and every one of you at least once while I'm out there One of the benefits of not-too-fast running.
Nono - we'll be thinking of you as well, and hoping for a great race for you, with no injuries and a lot of smiles!
77 push-ups (25+25+20+7)
{{Slo's DD}} Saying a prayer for her too. Poor girl!!
Holly - It does happen on occasion, but it is usually when there is a full moon, so I always have to be sure to close the blinds during that week. Does she actually have to go to the bathroom when you take her out, or is she just playing with you? I would think that a few nights in her crate if she's messing with you would put a stop to the behavior. If only we knew what they were thinking.
Have fun nono - now get going!!
Sue - Hailey is very ready ..... one week to go:
Erika—great run yesterday.
Sue—that bike is hilarious. Why can’t they do that for treadmills?
(((Slo’s DD)))—well maybe the hugs can wait until the swelling goes down. Ouch.
Go, go, Nono!
High on the list of things I don’t want to hear from the race director two days before a marathon: “Weather Advisory …the weather forecast for this Saturday…high temperatures of low 70's…can prove to be a challenge for long distance runs,…. Adjust Your Pace—consider lining up with a slower corral to avoid over-exhaustion.”
Oy! This isn’t going to be pretty.
3.5 miles with middle part at MP; 8:09 pace overall.
Resting? get a hug!!!
Fly-by post today. 10 miles with 8x1/2 miles repeats at 8:17ish with 90sec. intervals. I was feeling sluggish until the second repeat, but then the legs woke up and tried their best to catch up with what the lungs and garmina were trying to accomplish.
Have a great day you guys!!!!. I am looking forward to tonight's dinner with a group of young ladies who are seniors this year. They invited me to give a speech to the group. It should be fun. Wish me luck, I am a bit nervous about this one. I guess I just have to share my heart with them
"Dream big...then run hard toward those dreams!!!
I really enjoyed the post from Tag. hopeful, I'm sorry to hear the crap at your office doesn't seem to let up. I hope that today goes well. Slo, that sounds bad for your daughter. I hope the doctor can get her straightened out asap. PBJ, I hope the cyst removal leaves no bad effects.
Nice long runs for walt, breger (with speed), mariposai (2 since my last post and with speedwork), holly, kimmie, bike (and following a day with almost 60 miles of biking), fatozzig, and evan.
This morning it was about 40° and there was a light wind. I got in 6 miles in about 1:01 for a 10:10 pace.
A good day and good runs for all.
TomS
Hi all, Longest run since back from hernia this morning 4 miles 12 minute and change per mile. I dont know if I will ever be able to run like I used too, but I guess being off for 7 months I should not expect miracles. Beautiful morning 39 degrees when I ran this morning a little nippy to start but almost 50 degrees when I finished.
Breger when I took voice in college, music minor, my instructor always took a teaspoon of honey and a shot of black velvet before an audition, i don't know if the shot of velvet was for his voice or his nerves. I always sucked on a Ricola cough drop before a performance and it seemed to clear the mucous pretty good and gave me a nice clear tone. I assume that you are singing tenor a flat would be way to high for a bass. Good luck.
run long and well, Derrick
Mary, I can see why it would be hard to sleep with Hailey on your bed - looks like she takes up most of the space! Can't wait for puppy pictures. And thanks for the reminder not to beat myself up about not running well - it is what it is.
Bill, good luck with the solo on Sunday! You and Eliz are our singing stars. Oh, and Leslie too, I think.
SloHand, hope your doc figures out what's up with your DD. That sounds scary.
Nono, good luck on Sunday! What's the forecast? Hope it's not as warm as Tramps' race. Tramps, I hope the weather gods take pity and cool it off for you.
Today it's supposed to get to 65°, then there's a winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow with 4-7" of snow in town and up to a foot at home. These spring storms can be doozies. Hoping for a snow day tomorrow.
I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.
