Good morning everybody!  Hold on, I'll be right back...

Hey--I'm back.  I have about an hour before I have to leave for the track meet so I thought I'd come on in here for a couple minutes.

Oh, before I forget--those are some pretty cute kids, Starr.   And, by the way...it really bugs me that we haven't met yet.  I have met people from coast to coast and you're right in my state!  Both you and SubDood.  We're going to have to do something about that.

Ribs--that's hilarious!  Oops!  Spoiler Alert!  As soon as you're done suffering through this post, Ribs follows it up with a funny story.

I have to be honest, I am really nervous about these races, today.  I really do not know how I am going to run a 100 meter race.  Are you required to use blocks?  It might take me a whole minute just to get out of that stance.  And the 1500 is going to be brutal!  Pure pain from start to finish.  Luckily, I will have to leave before they start the 800...that one might have killed me.

When I picked up my packet last night, I had to laugh.  It was at a college campus and I wasn't sure where to go and I wondered how the heck I was going to figure it out...and then I saw the stream of old people...it was pretty easy after that.

Okay--I'd better get going and let you all move on to Rib's post.  Good luck to everybody else racing today!  See ya!

Haven't run yet. Got home from Omaha last night after taking Hudson to visit Creighton U.  So yesterday morning I go out to run and leave my room key at the front desk.  When I come back, the lady who took it handed it back to me and said, "I wrote on the envelope to make sure I remembered you." It said on it, "Red Tank Top". I asked her why and she said, "In case you didn't come back, I wanted to remember what you were wearing."

I LMAO all day over this, as did Hudson. We couldn't figure out whether she thought I was demented and would get lost, or because I'm old and frail looking and would collapse out there. For the record, the weather was very nice.  Spareribs

        Good Morning!

Ribs - glad you found your way back....

3 recovery miles for me this morning in 68 degrees.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

        BlazinCajun

Starr - Adorable photos and they like to fish, nice

MikeE - Good luck in today's races - pulling for you

Ribs - Very funny story and the fact that you are not sure of her intentions

Holly - I usually cut firewood far enough in advance to the winter for the wood to be very dry, the ice storm provided an opportunity for a substantial amount of wood at one time and you just have to be ready.

5 Moderately hard hill miles, walk, and cool down in the pool. Then a cup of coffee from our room.

            Ribs, that is so funny.

            Go MikeE go!!!!

Holly, nice mileage this week. You inspire me!

9.5  smile miles for me in my cow loop, three easy flowing miles with my RP, the rest alone.

Off to work now. It is going to be over 100F today, yeahhh loving the sun.

              Nice pics Starr.

Good luck Mike. I love those all comers track meets. I do agree the 800 is a soul sucking race that removes your will to exist. I usually try to avoid it and run 100, 200, 400, 1500 and up. I'm sure you'll do well.

              Good one Ribs.

Nice to have that pool close at hand Blazin.

Nice recovery Holly after that 20 yesterday.

Kiddo and I ran a 5k which raises money for our parish's Haiti mission. Patrick ran another PR @ 18:44. He looked smooth and finished 9OA. Not bad for a 13 year old. Best thing is he really likes it with no pushing from anyone. Makes me very proud.

Me - I ran a 19:15. Still looking for that elusive sub 19. Truthfully I need to loose about 5 lbs and it will come. But hey - I like food.

Off to do laundry and clean bathrooms. Yay me!

              Have a great Saturday.

Leslie—a belated happy anniversary.  Hope you had fun at the game.

Andrew—that pool looks sweet!  I could use that after my runs.  And that is impressive firewood.  It looks so uniform and neatly lined up.  Mine’s usually much more of a hodge-podge of things…branches as they come down, the occasional tree that either falls or needs to be removed, some bought stuff.  And I never get it cut and stacked so neatly.  Of course, we’re a little casual about firewood around here, it’s not a central part of life.  Now my brother in northern New Hampshire is another matter…he’d appreciate your meticulousness.

BTY—glad to hear you’re running well.  Enjoy it.

                  Starr—quite a cute collection there!

Ribs—great story.  Do people often underestimate you?

                  Has Mike cleaned up yet?

Almost 7 today with 5MP-ish miles in the middle.

                  Be safe. Be kind.

The usual Saturday breakfast with Cindy and then grocery shopping, only this week we were buying for 5 extra people.  Makes me glad we're empty nesters now.

I have a new loop that has some nice shaded side streets.  I have run it twice and today I set out to run it in reverse.  Somewhere I made a wrong turn because I came to a busy street and that wasn't supposed to happen.  No big deal. I knew where I was, just not how I messed up.  So as I pondered that while running I hit a sidewalk crack and went down.  I landed on my hands but did a magnificent tuck and roll.  I ended up without a scratch on me and although I could tell that I must have rolled onto my left shoulder and hip, they don't hurt.

I wish I had a video because it must have looked awesome.

6 miles by the way.  Should have been 5.25 had I gone the planned direction.

                    Trails are hard!

Ribs—great story.  Do people often underestimate you?

Probably at their peril.  Of course, the APB might be entertaining--"All units be aware--there is a scrawny old guy wearing a red tank top that left the hotel hours ago and said he was "going running".  Be advised that he may not be rational"

Cute bunch you have hanging around, Starr.  Nice bass, too!

4.5 miles up in Maine this morning.  Wish I had done more of my training last year up here--might have survived my marathon a little better.  Very happy with the pace.  Of course, there was some approaching 15 M/M going up the big hill, but I also had 6:05 m/m shown when I opened up a bit more than usual going back down the hill.  I realize that Mike does that on flats, but I was pleasantly surprised.

btw, Dave--sounds like a cape would have completed that roll.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

I bet it did!  Glad you came out without injury.

Mike - looking forward to hearing how it went....

We just got back from shoe-shopping for the kids.  DD is now exactly my size, foot-wise.  She and I both wanted the same pair of converse sneakers, but we ended up buying one black pair for her and one gray pair for me. I agreed to give her the neon green laces in exchange for not wearing my shoes.  She told me she can't make any promises.

tomwhite - now that is a funny post, then I read Dave's post.

Dave - On my third two mile run after coming back from my break in running the tip of my shoe caught a crack in the sidewalk. I was also daydreaming about getting back in shape and having an individual championship with MikeE when kerplunk my knees were driven into the concrete, no cat like reflex except all the air leaving my lungs. My daughter all of a sudden noticed I was missing and she only heard the grunt. I'm thankful that I'm used to working on my knees around the house. A car pulled over to ask if I was okay. Jogged back home looking quite wounded with my legs covered in blood. Back to running three days later. Glad to see that you were not hurt too badly. There is definitely something about focusing at all times regardless how many times you have run a certain route.

                          Mariposai - nice run

CR - congrats on your 5K race, you must be proud of your son

                          MikeE sighting yet?

                          Have a great weekend

Firewood - Goat boy once sent me a photo of his woodpile and said "look at this display of woodstacking awesomeness".  Funny the things people get excited about.

I am really so proud of that MikeE for putting himself out of his comfort zone like this....can't wait to hear the results!

Ribs - I was running with this older guy today, and he told me a story about being on a trail and having someone yelling at him that he was too old to be doing it.  At first he thought the guy was joking, but he wasn't - he really thought my running friend, who is a bit heavy, was going to keel over.

10.3 miles with the club, with about the middle 4 miles on trails.  It was warm, and very humid, with some thunder, and I was glad to refill my bottle at a community center at 8.5 miles.  One of the ladies dropped her water bottle and came back to look for it, but it was too far back, so we shared with her.

I came home and broke the handle off my shower, at the end of my shower, thankfully.  Luckily I do have another bathroom/shower.  But, this is a plumbing job that is just way out of my league.  Last time I had a quote, it was for $1,400 to replace the shower control since tiles will have to be broken and replaced too.  Carp.  I think I need a better quote than that.

Then, when I finally got around to making lunch....I was really shaky....hypoglycemia I guess.  I should really eat a bit as soon as I get home next time.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

                              c'mon Mike!

Nice spill report DAve.  I fall frequently and feel I too have mastered some techniques in that area.

O boy, good luck with the shoe sharing, Holly!

REading the firewood reports but I've got nuthin'........except H&H!

Yay you indeed C-R.  Anyone cleaning the bathroom and doing the laudry gets a standing O.  DH is doing our "play clothes" right now.  I just finished stowing the groceries.

Ribs, what did you pair with the red tank?  I mean, if you had been stying as per usual, she would have noted your ensemble.  Were you out in mismatched togs, seeing you were away from home?  That might have contributed to the problem.

o enke, yuk.  Here's to a lower estimate.

DH did 6 this morning, the last 3 at a free 5K put on by the new run shop.  Don't think it is starting out too well; he said the stock is pretty sparse.  We had a great sunrise.  Speaking of, at the library today, got the movie "Before Sunrise" by Richard Linklater, the guy who just released "Boyhood," the movie he shot with the same actors over 12 years.  REally interested in seeing that.  This one I have is one of a trilogy that follows a couple over a period of years....not really a couple, but two people who meet every so often.  I'll know more when I watch them.

Anyone see the "Jersey Boys" movie yet?  Ribs?

Decided to work on stamina so did 18 slow miles this morning.  Just enjoyed tooling around, finished at SB for a latte with some other runners who were out there.  Will do a 5K next weekend so that will be time for speed.

                              What's for supper, y'all?

                              grins,
