Run for fun? What the hell kind of recreation is that? quote from Back to the Fut III
3 miles this morning with strip crop intervals. What's strip crop intervals you ask (play along please)? Most dryland quarters are divided into 3 or 4 strips and crops are rotated between the strips. Soooo what I did after warmup on the road next to a quarter with 4 strips was sprint one recover one for a mile (down and back), each strip is about 1/8 of a mile. Jonathan suggested doing "diagonals" sprinting a football field diagonally then jogging back across. I didn't want to drive to town in the mud so came up with this.
Yes it rained again last nite. So a late start in the field today. Focusing on the good crops we have left. Neighbor called wanted me to spray a couple hundred acres for him. Don't know if I want any more work now, wouldn't take that long but if it keeps raining could get interesting.
Top 'O the World!
Morning Folks!
I really shouldn't be on this....don't really have the time...busy list to get done today...got the trail mix, cookies & breakfast burritos done last night...still have half the lawn to do, washing the car, sorting & finishing packing the car/boat, chasing a car title/paperwork for Doug, babysitting the little monsters for a coupla hrs in the middle of that...
'Raid & I got a good 5 miler in earlier...feeling pretty strong (& test driving new running skirt) after w/u..did some mildish fartleks...however, during one particularly sproinky one, evil bunny jetted out from under a parked car as we passed it! resulting in embarrassing yard sale! bruised & skinned rt elbow & knee - stings a bit...Mairead is soo funny! I think I hurt her feelings more by falling than mine! she was being sooo careful after that.
My Uterus Will Fall Out?
Hang in there, you two! And if I remember correctly, your breakfast burritos sounded fantastic. Wanna ship some to me???
Jim - Strip Crop Intervals - way to use what's available.
Jewels - Enjoy the end of the month crap necessary business work.
3.2 easy miles this a.m. Mostly kept the HR below 150. I think one of the things I hate the most about tapering is the feeling that because I'm not working out as hard, I'm gaining weight. I know, stupid. It's a female thing.
Gotta go look for new trail shoes at lunch today. Not happy with the pair I've been wearing and, unfortunately, will have to use those next weekend since any new ones won't be properly broke in. Oh well . . .
Have a great Hump Day ~

Wow, Maired would probably be one of those hero dogs that would stick by you if you were hurt, bark for help, etc. Hope you're not too much the worse for wear Cindy.
Crop intervals, too funny! Can certainly understand why your heart might not be into the sprayng job right now.
Jewels, forgot to contratulate you on the new job that fits right in with your goals. Kewl!!
Happy tapers to you Leslie. Good job doing a little shopping to relieve the stress.
Workouts this week so far:
Ran 3 Monday at avg of 10:57 before the doggie rescue.
Biked 5 yesterday (after dusting it off, lubing it up and pumping up the tires)
Ran/walked/sucked major wind today for 5.5 at avg of 13:14.
This moring's 80 degrees, 78% humidity, lack of breeze, car fumes from the hwy, cigarette fumes from the guy playing the disk golf course, and my vain attempt to keep up w/ my faster friend for a couple of miles made for a less than pleasant breathing experience. However, if I compare my sucky pace to my couch's pace of 0:00, I'm still a winner! Probably going to ditch the heat and humidity for the pool in the morning and try out the new goggles. The treadmill is even starting to look appealing. Hmmm...did I say I'm a winner or whiner?
Wow, Maired would probably be one of those hero dogs that would stick by you if you were hurt, bark for help, etc.
"Maired, where's Timmy. Go find Timmy, Maired."
Ha!!!
Carol - Anybody who gets their butt off the couch - even for a sucky workout - is a winner . . . especially when it's done in H&H. Bleck!
So ended up having order my shoes . . . . because I need a size 11!! Good grief! At this rate, I'll be using the shoes as surfboards soon. I also have to order my insoles on line 'cause the store isn't carrying them anymore. Bummer.
Jim....Strip crop intervals.....that works. Nicely done. You ready for that 5K? Good luck.
chk....How'd that running skirt work out for ya? What color did you get? Hope it didn't get ripped or blood stained in the fall. Sounds like you got you a good dog.
Leslie.....got that tapering thing going....good luck to you too on the 50K. Gettin' new shoes....
Carol....nice runs and bike for you. The pool sounds inviting. Go for it!
Got a 6er in on Tuesday evening and did 8 yesterday evening. Getting ready for the Firecracker 5K here on the 4th. The race will be in our wonderful city park, Crystal Beach. The park is getting a major facelift and a huge celebration is on tap. It promises to be the biggest celebration this town has ever seen. President George W. Bush will be here on Saturday to help with the dedication of the park. Several big name country acts will be performing. The town is expecting 20,000 people to attend the shindig. Normal population is 12,000. The excitement is sure building, I tell you what.
Long break from the real world begins at 4:30 pm today. No long pants for over a week. Planning to start that off wih a 6er this evening.
Later on, my friends.
Ev, now THAT is funny. I'm sure Timmy was found safe and sound.
Leslie, you both deserve and need that taper. In any picture I've seen of you, you look great!
Cindy, have fun camping and Happy 4th to you. Great runs you're having there.
Jim, You sure have been getting a lot of rain. Despite how busy you are with the farm you sure have been very consistent with your runs. Way to go!
Carol, nice weeks worth of runs/workouts. Sounds like you've got that mojo again!
New job is going well, more later.......
Hope to get a workout/run in tomorrow.
Jewels
Yeh, he was found. He had fallen down a well, Maired took his parents to him, they threw a rope down to him and Maired pulled him out. It was awesome
Glad the new job is working out for you.
LOL!!! Ev! ......later she defended the yard from an evil kitty who was tresspassing on our fence & scared the crap out of a kid breaking curfew! (she has such a deep booming voice!) ref the skirt - no damage...color of that one: black. also got "carribean blue" & "pink crush"....along w/some tops - breakdown: love the tops! jury is still out on the skirts....they're really light & airy, but they're a little short for my comfort level...although Doug says I'm not flashing anybody, think I'd be more comfortable w/a little more coverage I'm just not the hot bod I'd like to be
Jim ~ Doug totally knows what crop intervals are!
Jewels ~ glad the new job is going well!
Carol ~ you're not a whiner! It's frustrating the way your body will just gear back on necessary rest days, despite your mental intentions to do more than that!!
Leslie ~ didn't know you were supposed to "break in" running shoes? by the time mine are "broken in" they're on yard detail!~ ref breakfast burritos: they go really well w/breakfast bloody marys could/should be on deck for a get-together, whenever we all get around to that!
Where's that Joe dude? must be vacationing early!
Hey! to Arla & anybody else hanging out....
Great Runs Everyone!!
Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July weekend!!!
3 easy this morning with 1/2 @ race pace. Overnite rain total 0.40" and we didn't want to slop our way to town so we ran the sandhill and then I took off on the doubletrack trail that borders our pasture dodging all the puddles. The Kat ran with Lynda, stooopid Kat.
Cindy evil bunny.... now that we know you were not hurt. My dad had Kiesha on leash at the lake one time and was visiting with someone and not really paying attention and Kiesha took off after a kids ball or something took him over backwards into the lake. He came up sputtering, too funny. This is the same dog that my frail little old mom could control with the wave of her hand but grandpa wrastled with her and she knew grandpa was tough. She would get real territorial in town also, scared the crap outa some poor mormon missionary kids that came to their screen door that wasn't quite latched. Have fun in SD.
Carol nice job again with the workouts and working around the heat and humidity.
Leslie how is it I wore a size 10 in HS and now am running in 11.5's, don't they know how to vanity size shoes
Sorry you have to taper with a heavy heart.
Ev no pants for a week they let you get away with that in Oklahoma, oh you said long pants my bad
I guess I am bout as ready as I am going to get for the local, best base ever most speedwork ever, more running days per week. Could be a little lighter but the same as last yr but then theres that damn year older thing..........
Sounds like quite the doings down there for the 4th, have a blast!!
Jewels glad the new job is working out for you and getting some runs in also.
hiya to Joe hope you get some holiday time.
Arla hope things are coming around, so much to do for one person lookin' after aging parents.......
We worked pretty late last nite and I got 320 ac or 1/2 section or an area 1/2 x 1 mile wide done yesterday with the late start. I'll probably spray the neighbors job hopefully today. As long as it doesn't keep me from staying on top of my work its easy money. The worst part is by the time I get called in the fields are jungles of weeds and cheapest remedies are no longer available. Don't spose I can start til bout 10 today if then, pretty soggy.
laters folks
MTA : Don't drink a 5th on the 4th or you won't come Forth on the Fifth!!
Jim - The Kat running with Lynda. Thanks for the comment. The heart is getting lighter. Had to go back to the vet yesterday for food and fluids for the Old Man and got to play w/a couple of dinky kittens. And NO, they are not coming home with me. Oh - we have two new neighbors. A couple of horses to go along with the 5 goats. It's becoming a veritable farm across the road. Love it!
Cindy - Running skirts have never appealed to me. I'd actually like to find some shorts a little longer than what I have, but so far haven't been able to.
Ev - Sounds like quite the celebration! Pics would be very nice, if you're so inclined.
Jewels - Enjoy your workout tomorrow.
5 miles this a.m. with 1 easy, 3 at race pace, 1 easy. Race pace?? Note to Coach: I don't have a race pace. I have a slow pace and a Lord-help-me-get-to-the-aid-station-before-the-cutoff pace. Race pace? What the heck is a "race pace?"
The office is closed tomorrow and, as a co-inky-dink, it's an SRD! Woo hoo! Those two haven't collided in a long time. Su-Weet!
Good luck to this weekend's racers!!!
Hi Kids, busy bunch here.
Flyby post as I'm trying to tie things up(like my boss) at work for the weekend. Went out to Gettysburg yesterday for another visit with my father before he heads back home to Fla. I just didn't want to leave on such a bad emotional level, he's 78yo and lives in Fla so who knows when we'll get together again. He was at my sister's in PA (she survived) and wanted to see Gettysburg. A 100 mile drive for him, over 200 for me ,but somehow he managed to be 2.5 hours late. Had a decent time seeing the museums and battlefield and said so long around 6 in the evening.I decided to get a run in on some of the park roads which are really cool but on the way (what else) another major t-storm hit. This one was the torrential rain kind, but not much lightning so it was alright.Got lotsa funny looks from folks who took cover under the awnings of the old buildings in town, but I'm used to funny looks now.
Hope to catch up later before heading to visit friends in Massachusetts this weekend. If not,
Good Luck to this weekend's Racers!!!!!!
Ok , I had a chance to read over this again and as far as I can tell, Ev's the only one at a start line this weekend.
(When's your race Leslie,next weekend?)
Good Luck Ev! Go gettem' ! Sounds like a fine, fun Patriotic time !
Everyone have a Great Independence Day !! After spending some time at Gettysburg, and being reminded about how much was given by so many to keep this great Country free, I'm going to make a point to really enjoy this one!
