Masters Running

Monday after Superbowl Sunday (Read 482 times)

No run planned today, 12 hrs tonight.  Ran just shy 5 miles yesterday my longest since October, almost doubled my miles for year Saturday and Sunday with 1.8 miles on Saturday.  Purchasing another home in Flint, very near my rental and DS1 home, plan is for DS2 and his DW to move there when we have it replumbed and ready to move in.  Then to fix up DS2 old house for use as rental property in Clio, it is a 150 yr old school house.  So our summer while be a busy one.  The new house is in a popular running area in Flint so maybe we can get some runs before and after working on house

Wonder if C-R knew his Super Bowl volunteer gig was going to be as a roman soldier towing Madge into the halftime...?

       Big grin

Good luck on the house renovations, Derrick!

PBJ—hope the recovery goes well. Sucks about your sister’s house.

RCG—new job?  Good luck with it.

Stumpy—sounds like a classic face plant.  (Any video?) Hope the knee’s okay.

      Ilene—nice PR!  Congrats.

Perch—five 10s in a row?  Why?  Just curious.

      OM—nice costumes.

A frosty 25F this morning, which I think helped with my short intervals.  9 miles, including 5x800s.

      Have a good week.

      I can run again!!

Good luck with all of your projects Derrick!

I am very happy with my runs over the weekend.   I felt I pushed myself, but not too hard and it was nice to run on pavement rather than snow using yaktraks.    10 miles Saturday at 10:40 pace and 6 yesterday at 10:20 pace.      I hope to keep seeing improvement on those numbers!

Now to go read the weekend's events.

I gave in to the temptation to make some "lowbrow chow" for the Superbowl, and made a Frito-Chili Pie to watch the game.

Suffice it to say that it did NOT put a spring in my step this morning...4 easy miles, 9:21/mile. I'll do something faster this evening.

                Good morning, everyone!

Rest day for me, except for 15 min of a lackluster core workout this morning.

                My mind is going

Downloaded an audiobook, loaded it to my mp3 player, got it queued up, and left home without it.  3 miles is all I went.  Took me half a mile before I realized I wasn't listening to my new book.

I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

wild, great, scenic, pictures.  PBJ, I'm sorry to hear aboout your sister in law's house.  On another note, it's good to hear your recovery from your knee surgery is going well.  ribs, it's a bummer you had to cut saturday's run short.  It sounds like you bounced back for today's run.  Twocat, congrats to your sister in law and her horse.  I hope you had some money on it.  Ilene, good job on your marathon with BQ, PR, and 3rd in AG (thank you wild), OM, great pictures of you and MrOM in your costumes at your race.

Nice long runs for Walt, bike, wild, holly, DrRobin, fatozzig, perch (5 days of 10 milers), evan, and hopeful.

This morning, it was about 30F and there was some wind.  I got in 8 miles in about 1:25:30 for a 10:41 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.

Good job, tselbs.  Beautiful pic, wildchild!

The magic pills weren't magic for me this weekend.  I go for an MRI Wednesday.  DW told me that the pills didn't work because I didn't want them to because then the doc would definitely order the MRI.Roll eyes  I got in a short, easy run during the Super Bowl because I don't give a rat's you-know-what about it.  Did watch the halftime show and not too impressed.  More Cee Lo would have been nice.

No workout today because I don't have time, working and teaching.  I have my syllabus typed up now & will hand out at class, just the policies and the rest of this month's assignments.

I go for an MRI Wednesday.

Well, more than likely you will find out what's wrong, and then have to deal with it like I will.

I'm getting a little nervous about my appt in the morning with the neurosurgeon. Yes, I'm very tired of hurting like I am, but also scared of him saying I need surgery which will mean NO running for quite some time I would imagine. But...it is what it is at this point, and time to face my reality don't really want too tho.

It's truly amazing how important running is to me - well, all of us. I knew I had my appt in the morning, so that's basically why I ran my 11 miles on Sat, and 4 more yesterday. I guess I looked at it like...........maybe I won't be able to run for a while, so lets get a last minute running "fix" before the dreaded inevitable. Don't mean to sound bleak - and maybe this won't be as bad as I think (who knows) - but guess I'm preparing my mind for the worse.

Boy, I sure am sore and tired from my weekend runs, which shows how quickly a person loses fitness / conditioning. But with my lack of running that past couple of months, those 2 runs were very special and I enjoyed them immensely for sure.

Can't hurt much now I guess, so I have a 10 miler planned tonight, which I absolutely can't wait for. Super nice too - upper 40's and sunny.

Hope they find some answers with the MRI, Opie. And equally hope there is nothing too serious wrong

So very nice to see Leslie back at it, and churning out big miles again. You had patience with not only running, but your life and circumstances Smile

No offense to anyone, because I don't take football too seriously .....but I sure am happy the Giants won the Super Bowl

                        Have a great day all...

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

                        my newest pet

Wow, PBJ, not everyday someone you know has their house burned down.  Glad they were ok.

Nice PR Ilene!  Nice costumes OM!

I missed the superbowl since we were travelling, but I noticed the traffic was extremely light.

I managed a 6 mile run out by the Olympic National Forest/National Park on Saturday.  It was most splendid, about 43F with occasional warm gusts of air.  I found a nice flat and straight section of rural hiway, 3 miles up and back.

I would like to run 6 or 7 today, and it is another gorgeous sunny day, but ugh, I'm tired.

Stumpy, I've decided the catergories are:

one bloody knee - half Enke

two bloody knees - full Enke

two bloody knees and two bloody hands - Ultra Enke!

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

We are being blessed with the best weather lately!

Tim and Opie, I can identify with your need to run through injury.  I'm 0-2 on my 50k's in 2012. Last week I dropped down to the 20 mile race because I strained my hamstring in the ice the previous week and it was flaring up race morning. I put in some nice runs during the week and  I tried another 50k yesterday. I was feeling so good and was running really well until mile 12. My ankle suddenly decided enough was enough. (I rolled it at Mt. Hood 50 miler in July and again at Javelina Jundred in November). The pain started gradually and I ignored it, then it got a bit more intense and I still ignored. The sensation of warm fluid running down my leg  caught my attention and I stopped to walk it in.

I think my body was yelling "Lady! Give it a break! You promised a good rest and you never delivered!!!"

Your body will hold you accountable... you can't cheat it.

I'm taking the rest of the month off, then will start back slowly. I have 3 trail races in March and I may very well turn them into hikes and change to the shorter distance options.

                            I've been humbled.

"it's just like having fun, but different"

You're setting a good example, Dove. Smile

It's 69 freaking degrees outside right now!! Cool We rarely see those temps in the summer, let alone the middle of winter.  Weird, weird, weird (but I ain't complainin'.)
