40/40 Thread for Week Ending 5/4/08 (Read 427 times)

Marathon Maniac #957

Thought I'd get this in while I have a moment. For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run or aspire to run 40 miles/week. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard... Here's what I have for last week's tally, although with so many big races not everyone is here. Btw - GREAT JOB EVERYONE!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Sometimes it seems like it'd never come, but Race week has finally arrived. I don't know how it's going to end up, but I'm going to have a blast no matter what. Looking forward to meeting all those PNW Boomers and others.

Take it easy there, Holly. Hope this week works out for you! I've got a 5k on Saturday, and find I can't remember anything about getting ready for a shorter distance race. All I've done is marathons since the middle of last August! I'll prolly take a pass on the 40 this week, unless I just feel the need for more miles somewhere.

Holly, Thanks so much for the 40/40 thread, it has been a real boost during my marathon training. However, now that the marathon is finished, I'll be scaling back on the running miles and increasing the bicycling miles. I should be re-joining the 40/40 thread later in the summer as mileage will ramp back up for a winter marathon. Thanks again, Paul ps. I'll continue reading even though I'll not be participating.

My first run in five weeks was not to bad, but pretty slow. I will now be tapering the next three to Sunday's Marathon. I am just so very glad to finally be running again and a Marathon this weekend too. Maybe I will get 40+ miles in this weekend. Wednesday - 6.80 miles @ 11:54 pace Thursday - 5.70 miles @ 9.45 pace much better Saturday - 2.00 miles Sunday - 26.20 miles Lincoln Marathon Total Miles - 40.70 miles TomD

A solid if not overly inspiring week even with 3 missed runs (all for good reasons). 3 races in the next 7 days should be interesting...

I've been following this group for a little while and I'm 41 and aspiring to reach 40+ miles/week. I've been right around 30 miles/week and I've been running steadily since the 1st of February and just logged my first 5K in a few years. I am hoping to do a couple of 10Ks this summer and I definitely need to start logging some longer runs. You've all been inspiring me to get out there more and pound the pavement Smile Keep up the good work and hopefully in the next few weeks, I'll log my first 40 mile week.
