Marathon Maniac #957
Good Morning!
No run for me today - 40 minutes of weights and core instead, watching TV with DD.
I'm leaving from work this afternoon to head to the airport. Seems crazy to me that I fly north to Detroit, then change plans and fly south to Orlando (thereby doubling the flight time). Oh well. My Kindle Fire is charged and loaded. I was even able to load the 746 pages of seminar materials onto it, so I can browse the material during my travel.
I will admit here that I hate flying, and am generally kind of a nervous traveler. Having a lot of good books to read during the trip is helpful.
DD is NOT happy that I will be gone for 3 days and is being a bit dramatic. I expect there will be tears when I leave for work and she leaves for school.
the More the Merrier!
Safe travels, Holly. Try not to mind your DD's theatrics too much, because after all, they are exactly how you described them: theatrics.
Thanks for that list, Skip. Here's the companion list, which while I knew about, I still made a few of those errors. As my RR's title now reads, it's all about how you deal with Plan B.
Yesterday ended up being a rest day, due to lack of desire to run, though I did go to PT and did all my core and pushups and such. Today I hope to want to run again, or at least I'm going to do a hell of a job faking it. Happy Tuesday all.
who says life doesn't have a soundtrack?
Good Days
Safe travels Holly...Have fun.
Looks like we got a RR to read!
I did a track work out on the city streets today. I've been pretty fortunate to have had the Jr High track as long as I did. My work out was a
3 x (4 x 400on 30secs) with 2mins between sets. The 400's were short but the distance I ran was at about 3k pace. I could really feel the lactate build up in the final set. It's been a while since I threw heavy legs around. Gettin ready for a 4 miler next weekend.
Been a busy weekend...spilling right into the week.

I just hope we don't have races.

Hi Holly and Esther and Slo and Tomwhite and all y'all!
0532. 52F. 6.25 miles of easy running with the group. We did a route that I do not like. I am proud of myself for not whining and for not going off script. I am wont to do that.My DH, the rocket scientist, went to his PCP on Friday. Doc thinks the r.s. has bursitis in his hip. So now, the r.s. will go see our friend, Kristina. She is a DPT and, hopefully, put him on the path to recovery. Thankfully, the r.s likes to swim. So, like our dear friend, tomwhite, he will probably be logging a lot of pool hours.
I will be hit or miss for the next few months. As race directing the Swamp Run and sporadic work on this research project will keep me pretty busy. And that is good. Be well, dear running friends.
Mmm-blue moon ice cream!
Have a great time in Florida Holly, and safe travels! Promise your DD something from Disney - she'll stop crying and probably drive you to the airport
You'll get your running mojo back OM. Nice report on your Disney experience!
Good morning Tom! I've got swim lessons tonight. They're teaching me the perfect way to do the swim portion of a triathlon right now.
Why is running on a treadmill so hard? 4 rotten miles this morning, 9:56 pace followed with 5 miles on the bike and some weights. I've been trying to do a better job of stretching out before/after running to see if that will help my back issues. It still feels off...
Tim - check in and let us know what the surgeon tells you.
The sun is out. It's 26° Think I'll take a cup of coffee and go stand on the deck and enjoy the warmth
Good morning all. Nice and sunny and warm here today. I ran in shorts and a t-shirt this morning and still was sweating. 8 easy miles in 58 degree sunny weather. Pretty windy, but mostly from the west so not too bad as most of my run heads either north or south.
Holly, safe travels. I'm not much of a fan of flying either. It's a hassle and you spend a lot of time sitting around in airports or squashed into an overcrowded plane. Thank goodness for the Kindle. It's a real lifesaver for travel. My kids hate it when I travel for business too so I know how your dd is probably feeling, but she will get over it. And as Jlynne said, bring her something cool from Disney and she'll be happy!
Barb, sorry to hear about the rs. I hope that he is on the road to recovery soon. Personally I find swimming to be way better than pool running. Kudos to tomwhite and anyone else who can pool run on a regular basis. I think it might be the singularly most boring form of exercise I have ever done.
Jlynne, sorry to hear the back is still bugging you. I'm with you on tm running. I find it pretty excruciating and I'm always slower than outside. Still and all it's better than pool running!
Off to read OM's race report!!

8.1 this morning at easy pace, so that I can take tomorrow off in Boston. I have a big day with a great client.
Looking forward to seeing the Henruns, Pro, Tortuga, Deez and the doc tonight. I hope she brings that can of liquid nitrogen. I have some stuff on my face I want to her spray off. Would also be fun if she would spray the Pro in the eye just for laughs.
Holly, I hope you enjoy your trip. I have with me a Conn Igguldson book on ancient Rome. Don't know if I spelled that right.
Back to good health for RS and Tim.
I'll be back online on Thursday and will check in on how the evening went. Spareribs
Hello. I’ve been busy but trying to peek at the daily when I can. Sorry to read about Tim’s back yesterday but glad you’re getting proper care for it now. I hope the RS responds well to whatever therapy is devised. Sounds like fun times in Boston...except for the liquid nitrogen.
Interval day for me (5x1200) as part of a 12-miler. They were tougher and slower than they should have been and I realized why halfway through. Usually I do my LR on Saturday with a recovery day Sunday but because of weather I ran on Sunday this week, leaving me not yet fully recovered for today. I should have switched these to Thursday and run on fresher legs. Doh!
Global warming brought a beautiful 50+ day to Boston-just in time for a visitor from Texas.
After a yoga session at the Y I drove to the Charles and ran 5 miles. Runners seemed to enjoy the weather as there were smiles all around.
Ribs, I had that liquid nitrogen spray yesterday at my appointment with the dermatologist (not Robin).
I can run again!!
Yea, I just had it last week too. I couldn't help but think as the doctor walked out the door holding his canister that he looked fulfilled.

Global warming indeed. Running skirt and thin long sleeved shirt for late January, sheesh! Thanks for the encouragement for the artificial enthusiasm, tomwhite, it worked great! 7.16 miles at 9:46 pace, wearing my new Brooks Pure Flow shoes, sans orthotics! I think this is the end, rather the beginning, of a new era...
Oh, and thanks guys so much for pushing me to write my RR. Stuff like that is hard for me to do, for some reason. I just added a bunch of photos, in case anyone would like to go back and look....
If you can endure pool running, you can endure anything. Our resident pool runner, Tom, is living proof of that. And a race between pool runners? That might just be exciting enough to pull me away from watching paint dry.
I love to fly. My "Wishful Thinking" bucket list includes getting my pilot's license. Uh, yeah . . . ain't never gonna happen.
Unscheduled rest day. I got up with that feeling of dread over having to work out, so I fed the zoo and crawled back into bed. Didn't really sleep much, but it felt good. Sleep deprivation due to the increased intensity of night sweats is catching up with me. Ugh!
The picture of that extremely muscled guy in yesterdays' thread? However, this is kinda brightens my day:

had an extra long RAL because i'm staying at work later because of the gathering. shorts on the Charles in January - altho there were some folks in jackets and long pants.
Ribs - no time for even a short run?

I KNOW what you mean! I am still trying to embrace this new chapter in my life.
buehrle, good luck with directing the Swamp Run. Speedy recovery to the r.s. too.
look at jlynne, she is going tri on us!!!
Ribs, that book on Ancient Rome sounds interesting to me. Let me know what you think of the book, then I will add it to my bucket list. Have fun tonight!
Holly, make sure you treat yourself to a nice place to dine .
Schedule called for 7 miles, but all I got in was 3 on the TM as I was watching the news. I just did not have it in me today. I felt very, very tired and with no energy, yeah blame it to transitions in life. I hope I feel better tomorrow night for a 10 miler with some tempo.
ohhh Wiseone, dear SpareRibs, please give a hug to Henrun and the Pro for me
Ah Boston. It’s the Carneghie Hall for runners. Mostly because you do get there through “practice, practice, practice” but it also takes some dedication to a goal with lots of pain involved in getting there. C-R
