25 thousand people...well, this should be a nice practice for me then for when I get into NYC marathon. Tammy, don't worry... you will be able to find me easily...I will wear my big wings for you. Thanks for the great pointer there King!

Nancy, I'm thinking of getting one of those kid leashes for you and me . . .

I printed out the course map, course description and will probably start mesmerizing it during my taper time.
I've never done this. I generally look over the description briefly, and check the elevation chart to alert me to when I can expect any monster hills, but other than that, I kind of like the course to be new on race day. With 25,000 people, I doubt that I will miss a turn (although it could happen).
Even this big trail run I have on Saturday - it would probably have helped me to familiarize myself with the trails in case I can't find the marker ribbons (like Stevie Ray at the Grassland Marathon turned Ultra), but still I just decided to play it by ear, letting it all be new to me on raceday (and hope I have someone ahead of me who knows where they're going).
What else do I do during taper?
Well, eat, for one thing. That's my plan. Or, if you're Mustang Sally you fret about twitches in your left eyebrow...
Resting? get a hug!!!
tammy...
during taper you will plan your weekend get-away and not fret about the miles we will run.
during your taper you will paint your toe nails...to cover up the bruises and half fallen nails...
during taper you will drink a lot...margaritas are great...(man, I hope coach is not reading this)
during taper you will not fret about training no more...you have done the job...now is time for the victory lap
"Dream big...then run hard toward those dreams!!!

Wow, its getting closer and closer. Virginia Beach RnR was pretty picky about admitting the right bib numbers into the right corrals. I expect it will be the same here. SR is right about not being able to find people in the crowds. As Sue will be running the 1/2 and we will have a room at the Silver Cloud Hotel just across the street from the stadium, we chould meet up there before hand. That way its a handy potty and a place to drop unneed items prior to catching the shuttles. Same option afterward.
We will be catching the Bremerton/Seattle ferry about noon friday, checking into the hotel and hitting the expo. Looking forward to seeing everyone. We will have our SUV with us so let us know if you need a lift.

last training run - 2/14/09

Okay, a little early, I know, but I was thinking this morning (during my run) about what to pack for Seattle. I am such an infrequent traveler, and I only want to bring a carry-on for the Seattle weekend (no lost luggage mishaps), but I’m a little fuzzy on the travel regs for carry-ons, so I’ll have to read up on that. 3 oz. or less, I think, for liquids. Does that mean deodorant, too? Can you buy travel-sized mousse? Can I bring some coffee? (my latest favorite - Ethiopian Yrgacheffe). Of course, there’s probably coffee in Seattle, but you never know. Swimsuit?
Top 'O the World!
Holly: (pardon me for nosing in!) thought this site might help w/the logistics

coffee grounds should be fine in your carry on.
the only liquids you're allowed to carry on would be those purchased in the airport - after going through security.
Thanks, Mntchk!
I see that I’ll have to leave my meat cleaver at home...drat!
No cattle prods allowed, either...
Swimsuit?
I`ll have to check with tammy but, especially with no full moon scheduled, no one`s wever worn one for any of the monthly midnight madness swims in Seattle.
Nope, just have to put it into the checked bag w/the Samurai Swords, handcuffs & stuff....
Also, somewhere in there they request that you put all of your little liquids/gels into a 1-quart ziplock baggie (some airports provide them) & have it sitting on top of your carry-on for the x-ray....
Hey, I just read this in the May newsletter (thanks, Erika, for sending those out):
Slight Course Updates
We’ve made a few minor updates to the inaugural course:
Now that is very thoughtful of them.
No offense.
Stuff in the bag has to follow the 3:1:1 guideline... each liquid has to be 3oz or less (technically, 3.4oz, but that makes the rule harder to remember), 1 bag per 1 passenger. It has to be removed from your traveling bag.
Do not try to bring a bottle of water or a soda through TSA. If you travel with a nalgene bottle (BPA-free of course), it needs to be empty.
They changed the rule for shoes, too. Used to be, you'd put your shoes in a bin. Now you have to put them directly on the belt. oooo aaaah.
They are also changing the rules about your name. This should NOT be an issue for traveling in June, but realsoonnow, they want the name on your ID to match your ticket. Exactly. Including middle names if that's on your ID. Not middle initials. No nicknames (Beth on your ticket, Elizabeth on your ID), stuff like that. So far, they haven't been hassling people for this, but they will down the road.
Tip for when you leave Seattle: put your medal in a bin like you do with your quart bag. rnr events give out chunky medals and it wigs out some tsa folks on their screen. Even when they've seen a few. You won't get arrested , but it will slow down the process while they ponder. And then maybe pull it out. And then maybe run your bag a second time.
Ultima tastes like failure.
Of course, there’s probably coffee in Seattle, but you never know.
I covered this earlier in this thread:
"Viva! Seattle Tacoma, viva viva Sea-Tac
Viva! Seattle Tacoma, viva viva Sea-Tac Viva viva viva viva viva Sea-Tac They've got the best computers and coffee and smack"
Don't worry about coffee or food, we will have them at the house (unless you need your special brew for pre-race)
Don't worry about sunscreem, glide and such, you can share mine.
Do bring bathing suit, don't bring beach towel, I can bring an extra one for you.
Do bring a light sweater...you may need it in the plane or at night.
