A lot of that depends on time of day too. I-70 is a total disaster on the weekends. Westbound on Saturday (and to a lesser degree Sunday) mornings and eastbound in the afternoon/evenings (much worse on Sunday) can be horrid... like rush hour in LA. If you go up Friday night or Saturday afternoon/evening/night it should be smoother sailing.
