Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Day Plan Done
Mon 7 7
Tues 6 7
Wed 10 10 (7 tempo)
Thurs 4 4 (the EZ run that wasn't)
Fri WHY am I so tired??
Sat 8 8 -- peaceful, uneventful, enjoyable -- another milestone
(first time solo, hope the cougar don't get me! although to be honest I'm more concerned about an unexpected injury - think Dave Mackey!)
Sun trail HM 13.6 on the Garmin which usually measures short on trail
Total: 49.6
Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done.
Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen.
Thank you Holly!!!

Thanks Holly! Here's the plan...

I need a free pass this week-running the Wild West Relay. We're driving up early and resting. I've logged 9.45 mi. yesterday and today so that's not bad. I'll be back to 40 or really close next week because training for the St. George Marathon continues!
Ended up with 27.5 miles, with the last several miles climbing up to the Continental Divide at Rabbit Ears Pass!

SCHEDULE 2016--
The pain that hurts the worse is the imagined pain. One of the most difficult arts of racing is learning to ignore the imagined pain and just live with the present pain (which is always bearable.) - Jeff

I'm still trying to recover from Vermont 100k.
And quite obviously I'm in no condition to race.
At 49 it takes a very long time to recover from anything.
And I really, really did not want to race. But
on Sat I absolutely had to show up for the NYRR
Team Championships. We needed to have at least
5 guys to get scored in the 40+ category. So, well,
I was one of them. My advice to you: do not attempt
to run 6-min pace two weeks after completing a 100k.
Bad idea!
