Karin, butterfly hugs to you my dear friend! Yes you will be back!!!! and with those abs of steel you will rule the course Smile.

Go Denise go!!! 17 miles that is a bunch of miles! Will this be your first marathon? My memory is foggy right now from my long run.

Marj, great 7 miler for you. I am glad you too had a great running weather.

My weather was really, really weird. I started my run at 27F, crispy, but sunny. I finished the run in 53F. See twocat, it did warm up that fast!

Since I am running the Yakima River marathon in a month I decided to do all my long runs running up and down the various canyons we have around here. Today I checked out: Kermel, Dalton, and Old Riverside Rd canyons. All the elements made this a great run. The legs did Ok with the first 10/18 back to back for this season, which makes me very happy.

Now it is time to feed the hungry muscles, take a nap and then work on getting the soil ready to plant some peas, kales and swisshchards. Oh the earthy delight of tilling the ground and panting seeds!

Good luck to the weekend racers!

"Champions are everywhereall you need is to train them properly..." ~Arthur Lydiard

Oh Karin!  You sound very upbeat though, so I am sure that is to your advantage.

I always wonder about those runs that start at 40F and end at 52F, what temp to record in the log.  What do you do?

Met up with the running club today.  Man, what a bunch of fastees!  Half of them going to Boston.  I thought I was the last one, but a woman caught up to me at a mile and then we ran the rest of the 6.45 mile route together.  The people doing the 10 mile route passed us with about a mile to go, so yeah, they are fast.  So much fun, and the time went by quickly.  It will take some time to get to know these peeps, but I think I am going to stick with it.

Twocat, one of the runners is a year fresh from Dublin.  If I had known about your situation, I could have asked her about races there.  Cute accent.

Sunny sunny sunny....but time for a nap.

I've always wished my Garmin would record temperature. I just upload my runs to RA log and have to remember to check the temp. Cool feature though.

And by the way, I'll throw in my semi-annual whine about how stoopid the whole daylight savings thing is. Especially for a state bathed in daylight all summer anyway. I mean, if we can't really "save" it and "use it later," what the hell is the point? Roll eyes

Just for you Erika, I saw this article yesterday: even the cows hate it

And you can upload into Garmin Connect just the same way you do for the RunningAhead log. Of course that means doing an extra step online. Some of us here are highly averse to that; others live for it. Wink

evanflein re: daylight savings Big grin Big grin!  ROFLMAO

enkephalin I do not think your friend could have conjured up a race for me.  But maybe a good running route!  Oh well . . . anybody know somebody from Tipperrary or Cork?  I will be in those two towns the week of 3/18.

CNYrunner at least the boot will get you a lot of sympathy!

OrangeMat Garmin has a program that will automate the upload process.  I wish RA did too.  Then again it is amazing what RA has done on a shoestring budget.

StarrRuns good luck in the quest to turn your DH into a gym rat.  A friend of mine has the same problem with her DH and he really needs to get in shape or risk an early death.

lydenrunner everbody's a comedian!  I thought I had the rights to snarky remarks here on RA?

tetsujin209 not that badly!  Also, I am trailing along 25 MBA students.  I will be far from alone on this trip!

Jack Klompus a good friend of mine works at UCSD.  Has your son had a finance course from a guy named Professor Lehmann?

tselbs nice run today.  If it was in the 20's I hope it was not a headwind breeze.  Brr.

At long last we are getting a break from the miserable weather here!  I got up late which had the benefit of giving me temperatures in the  mid 40's for my run.  Bright and sunny too!  Yes!!!  All to the good since I was heading out for 18 today.  That is my first "long run" since starting up again.  Now in Ireland I suspect sun will be in short supply.

Amen, OM. Thanks for the article! I sure wish we'd come to our collective senses and stop the whole daylight savings nonsense.

Twocat, we were in Ireland a few years ago, mostly County Cork, and yeah, I think we saw the sun once. Beautiful place though... Have fun.

It's 43° outside, my chicken stock is at a nice simmer on the stove and I'm heading out for a run!

            mrrun

we did a bike trip in Ireland 11 years ago on the dingle peninsula - our group had 6 days of clouds/sun and no rain while the group going in the other direction had 6 days of rain!  choose the right direction for your travels!

                Hello everybody!

Karin--sorry to hear about your ankle.  You have a great, though, attitude and I'm sure you'll be be back stronger than ever.  Plus, with your extra time, you can post a little more often.

I went to 3 soccer games to watch 3 different grand kids, this morning.  My DD coaches all three teams--she's fun to watch, too.  The older of the three scored 2 nice goals in her game, which gave her team a 2 - 1 victory.

So...I'm feeling kind of guilty...I bought tickets for my DW and me to go see Engelbert Humperdinck.  (Yes--he's still alive)  DW loveshim!  He's performing at a casino in a suburb on the other side of the Twin Cities from us.  So...we're going to make a weekend of it by staying at the casino for a couple of nights.  DW thinks that I am so "sweet" for going through all of this...knowing that I could think of many things I'd rather do than go watch Engelbert Humperdinck.  Little does she know, however, that there just happens to be a half marathon that morning in a neighboring suburb that is part of my team's race series.  Actually...when I think about it...we're taking a little weekend trip together...she's getting what she wants and I'm getting what I want...why should I feel guilty?

                Okay--I have to run.

Today was AWESOME!! Big grin   I ran 17.1 miles of the 20 my friends from MVS were doing - my spirit wanted to do the whole 20, but my brain was saying be smart and stick to the 17 like you planned -- my brain won!!  I really felt strong the whole time.  One of our friends not training right now acted as a traveling water stop - she would drive ahead every 3 miles so we didnt have to carry water and stuff with us - so nice of her!!  For some reason my Garmin wouldnt turn on but now it's back on the charger and seems ok -- so weird!!    I saw Henry and Marj out there too ..... of course I never pass up a chance to hug 2 of my favorite people!!

Karin - so sorry you're injured!! Cry

Starr - I never responded before when you said something about a good base --- I really didnt have a good base to jump in the middle (or later) of a marathon training plan - only about 20ish miles/week, but am just trying to build smartly and hopefully safely.

Posai - thank you for the text ....xoxo  I ran Boston and Baystate in 2006 and havent done a marathon since -- lot s of 1/2's and lots of volunteering since then!

Erika - thanks for the good karma thoughts .... I really am psyched to be running Boston again after volunteering so many years!

nice run Deez! I almost matched you at 17 miles.

ran 16 miles around town and was real happy with my splits. i never really looked at my watch til I got home. I ran another mile with the dogs when I got home, so got in my 17, but I think that last mile felt harder than the 16!

                    here's today's splits: 9.22, 9.19, 9.35, 9.37,  9.39, 9.46, 9.47, 10.13, 9.46, 9.29, 9.37, 9.40, 9.34, 10.01, 9.35, 9.18.

i'm probably one of those oddballs that counts down til DST. I probably wouldn't if I lived in Alaska and had all that sunlight anyways, but the lower 48 doesn't. Most nights I don't even get home til 6:00 p.m., so in the summertime, when it's still nice out at 9:00 p.m., I LOVE having light. I feel like I have more quality hours out of the day because durnig the week, I can be outside after work either getting things done or just enjoying some extra daylight, which I don't get under my flourescent ceiling at work.

+1  I totally don't see what the point is, in this day ahd age.  Just screws up my sleep cycle twice a year....

10 miles for me today in 31 degrees, with the middle 7 miles at 8:46 average pace.  Plus 9 burpees.

We went to COSI today (Columbus Museum of Science and Industry).  Excellent museum, lots of fun exhibits.  Here's me and the kids at the outdoor part of it.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

This is my DD#1 singing the National Anthem before the basketball game last night.

Looking for a place to Happen, making stops along the way - The Hip

I'm scratching my head, thinking, didn't DST deploy in April years ago?  This seems too soon.  It just recently got light out at 6:45am here, now it is going to be dark again for early morning runs?  Just doesn't seem right.  Although I know at the summer equinox in June that dawn starting at 4am is better than at 3am!

For someone sensitive to light, I just put on my night mask everynight for 8 hours and that keeps me from getting too messed up.

                          Deez, nice run!!!

I did 10.2 in 1:17:44.  kind of drizzly out, but kind of nice.
