Leslie u do a great job with the x-train, mine just kinda goes away during the summer
No, yours doesn't go away, it just takes a different form.
Good luck with the agronomists (what a title!). Am keeping all fingers and toes crossed that things take a positive turn for you guys.
Cindy - Poor Mairead. She needs a doggie brownie.

Okay - I got some pics from my niece's wedding on photobucket as a slide show if you'd like to see them. Since I was the photographer, I ended up with only one or two pics with me in it, besides the formal wedding photos. Oh well!

Top 'O the World!
My poor dad - he rarely gets any sun 'cause he works the graveyard shift and, therefore, sleeps a lot. He also is basically bald, but I convinced him a couple of years ago to NOT shave his head completely 'cause he ends up looking like chemo patient. Well, he went to get his nubbies trimmed, the barber misunderstood him, and shaved his entire head again. I looked at him and said, "Just keep your hat on during the wedding pictures."
I tell you what, though - it's in looking at photographs that I realize how much my dad has aged over the last couple of years. Cripes, where did the time go? My brother's second wife and the mom of his youngest, Lindsey, sent with Lindsey to the wedding a bunch of pictures for my niece, Brandi, and nephew, Cody, that she had taken out of a photo album that belongs to my brother but won't give back to him (are you following me?). She's a whole 'nother novel, and I'd need at least a pitcher of margaritas to get through that story. ANYHOO - there were pics in there of my dad playing with Brandi and Cody when they were little, and I was just like, man, I can't believe that was so long ago.
Hey guy/gals.
Good runs and workouts happening in this 40s+/50s group.
Leslie has my attention with the x-training she is doing. I so need to incorporate that into my training, but I've got too many excuses. Nice job, Leslie.
Joe, too, has my attention with his motivation to get it done. Rain, shine.....OK maybe just rain, doesn't matter what day it is, Joe is gettin' it done evryday of the week.
Jim, I trust things will work out in the Ag department. Nice runnng for you also. You don't post a log, but its seems you've been upping the mileage for the last couple of months. Training for anything in particular?
Arla....how's it going with your mother? What kind of beer did you have? I say that only have jokingly. I love beer and enjoy trying out new stuff. I'm sure there are lots of good microbrews out in sunny CA.
Mtn....speaking of microbrews, I'm sure you've got plenty in CO as well. What's your favorite?
Ultra, another mega mileage runner who gets it done. How's the personal training gig going? Where I run there is a personal trainer who has a boot camp. When I finish up my run, he's gottem running and jumping and crunching....it's all I can do to stretch and drag myself into the pickup and wave as I drive off. They are a dedicated bunch.
Jewels....let us know how it's going in FLA
Carol, I hear just a few more days of 100+ then a cool front will come thru getting us back into low 90s....ahhh....sweet relief it'll be! Good running.
Hey to evryone else...
I shortened a 6miler down to a 3 miler yesterday evening. No particular reason, except I just wanted to get back home and enjoy the evening with DW. Today is our 26 anniversary and we worked our butts (can I say that on the internet?) off yesterday in the yard. I didn't mean to turn this into a beer post, but whatever. That might not be such a bad idea.
Later on, my friends.
flatland mountaineer
4.3 with what was supposed to be 8 hill repeats that was actually 7 cause #1 when you get old you forget and #2 when you get old you can't read without ur reading glasses and see the tiny print on the lap counter on my Garmin. I see a pattern here jus gotta keep focusing on that being the pup of my AG lol
A very good workout none the less.
Local 5 k in 10 days my goal race so just a few hard workouts left then will ease back then whats left of wheat harvest and see if I can work a fall half in somewhere. I dunno fall anything but work is tough here. Most of my runs get posted here just talking among friends but not formally in the ra log. I let my garmin keep my log. We log about 10 things on about 100 fields so the more I make running like that the more it becomes work and not my fun thing. I have sent Jonathan bits and pieces of it if I am having probs or need advice on workouts. So thats why no public log. They get purty anal bout posting logs in the general but I don't care.
Ev raising a beer glass to ya and DW
Happy Anniversary
Leslie glad to get to see your fam. Great Pics. Your dad would look right at home round here.
Sttin' round waiting on Dekalb district agronomist and Center pivot irrigation salesman #3.
Hiya to evryone else (think Ev's rubbin off on me)
The whole world said I shoulda used red but it looked good to Charlene in John Deere Green!!
Support Ethanol, drink the best, burn the rest.
Run for fun? What the hell kind of recreation is that? quote from Back to the Fut III
he went to get his nubbies trimmed
That's funny ! Nice pics Leslie, looks like you had a good time!
Jim- that's why I set the "pace" on the Garmin as a single display. It makes the printout BIGGER so us geezers can read it!
Cindy- sounds like you may need a doggie treadmill. Something like a hampster wheel for Mairead.
Happy Anniversary to Ev and Mrs Ev!! 26 years! Nice Going!
A little change in the weather for last night's rain run.Instead of the usual pouring rain,it was only a steady rain. Still had an enjoyable time on the hills with the deer looking at me like "you're nuts". Yea, I guess I am......
quitters never win
Jim - I hear ya on forgetting what number your on re the hill repeats. I'm unsure about how to use the lap button, so I don't. That means I have to keep track of the repeats in my head, and that, my friend, is a scary thing in and of itself.
Joe - Cripes, you've been a lot of rain. I again urge you to send it our way so we don't burn up what's left of California this summer.
6 miles of hill work this a.m. in 1:00:59. Should've walked a little less. I was pleasantly surprised at my time since I thought my legs would be more tired from yesterday's increased strength training.
I see this one guy almost every morning I run, depending on what I'm doing that day. He walks the hills I run, and we'll sometimes pass each other two or three times. We've been at the "Good morning!" point for awhile now, so I think I need to take our relationship to the next level and introduce myself.
Had to take BK back to the vet this a.m. Keeping fingers crossed that another round of fluids and an antibiotic shot that's suppose to last a week (instead of me shoving meds down his throat 2x a day) will help him get to the turning point of this infection. He's so skinny - especially compared to our other cats - it sucks. We miss the little guy who does the kitty rain dancing on the bed when we're giving him da bizness (scratches and pets).
Hey - Have a great day, friends ~
Afternoon everyone.....
Nice pics of the wedding Leslie, your dad is a good looking man. Love his outfit! Way to go on all your hill workout!
Jim, here's to things coming together for you and hope that Mother Nature behaves herself so you don't lose anymore crops! Still getting in those runs despite what you are going through.
Joe, we have had plenty of rain here as well. Almost daily, but that is normal for us in the summer. Afternoon thunderstorms are scary around here. Nothing seems to stop you from getting in your runs though.
Ev, Happy Anniversary! The H & H is killer here, I don't know how you run in that stuff. Great going!
Cindy, always love reading your humorous posts. Your running is really coming along. When is that marathon you signed up for?
Carol, nice runs and workouts. Great idea using the picnic table for some exercising.
Arla, hope things are still going well with your mom. I'm sure you are still getting in those runs. You have worked hard and your running shows it.
Only 1xgym and 1 short run so far this week. I've got 3 mid-terms this week, a QuickBooks class I'm taking, I've had a couple of interviews and work has kept me from a regular routine this week. Still eating healthy and I think I can start to feel just a slight change in the way my clothes feel. Yay!
Day 4 of the P90X program for my sister. They literally cleared out there cupboards and fridge before starting the program and loaded it back up with all the healthy nutritional foods that were part of the program. Between eating healthy and doing these workouts, I'm sure she will see some results. Leslie, I asked her about the pretest fitness thingy and she said she did do it and just barely "passed". She is modifying her workouts, such as girl pushups instead of guy pushups, lighter weights instead of the heavier ones. Some of the ab workouts she can't do so she will do extra of the ones she can do, etc.
Gotta go........Jewels
Hey Folks! Quickish Howdy.....
Jewels: I'm funny? kewl! marathons: Sept 20 & Dec 6 plus have been invited, therefore are reading up on a 200 mile relay race through CO! haven't quite plopped my $$ down for that one yet! ....I resemble that P90X status....
Leslie: {{fingers crossed for BK}} ....yeah, chat breaks can be cool
Ev & DW: Happy Anniversary!! beer posts we do around here! hmmm, microbrews....we have LOTS here! Love O'Dells out of Ft Collins - particularly 90Schilling....ambers! what can I say!
Joe: deer always have that look when you run by - rain or no! You won't know WHAT to do when it finally dries out! 'Raid doesn't want any part of that treadmill! smart girl!
Jim: What's this goal race?? psst - there's a veteran's masters group on that big relay that I think is still looking for runners: www.wildwestrelay.com
Hey to Carol, Kelly & anybody else out there!!
Ciao!!~
Cindy
Happy Anniversary Ev and Mrs. Ev!! (I blew right by that one the first time around, although I did read it. Go figure.)
Re deer sightings - check out this tale from one of the top trail runners: http://karlmeltzer.com/2009/06/the-wild-and-scenic-bighorn-100-gets-a-little-too-wild/
Got BK home. Cripes, that little guy is costing us a small fortune! Hopefully the shot of antibiotics they gave him, fluids, and chewable antibiotics for home do the trick. Plus a change in diet to try and encourage him to eat again.
Something she told me that's interesting: Dogs, of course, will eat anything. Cats, however, will stop eating a food if they associate it with nausea, and it will sometimes take years before they'll try it again. With his liver infection, he probably got nauseated (not to mention getting car sick), and that's probably why he won't the dry food we have anymore. Also, cats should not eat a lot of canned food that is made from fish. Just like humans, too much mercury can cause problems.
So there you have it. Now got out and get yerselves a cat or two - of five - and treat 'em well!
Morning Folks! T.G.I.F!!!
Sitting here drinking coffee....trying to wake up before I "launch" into my day....gotta pack my gear & cooler stuff rounded up to go work the MS150 bike race up in Ft Collins tom verrrry early to pretty late....supposed to be a couple thousand riders!
Sad news yesterday....I didn't catch much of it having a "normal" day around here...constant chatter on the Today show this am...
Big T-Storms w/intense heavy rain moved through starting mid-afternoon...funny thing in the city! Had been watching the clouds brewing for hrs, although, not paying close attention - they seemed to be in clumps - or pockets of big nasty clouds interspersed w/blue stuff & scattered sunshine... a bit warm & muggy....went mobile abt 2:30 - taking GD to DIL's while I go to an outcall & then to the Snug for the Thurs eve run & Guinness..probably the first time yest that I really did a look-about...everything looked ominous, but didn't seem to be doing anything...here!! Then abt 2 miles from DIL's house, crossed a street that was (at that time) a sort of boundary....completely dry on the South side, everything heavy & dripping on the North side!! By the time I got to DIL's, HUGE puddles everywhere! She says I "just missed" the squall that went through! Hard wind (dead calm @ my house), "can't-see-across-the-street-rain" for about 20 mins - rain gage said 1.5" in that 20 mins! Wow!...driving back across to the West side...didn't go very far till I was back on dry streets..clouds were still in clumps..they didn't stay that way for long! ... Pondering the eve. run...light rain doesn't bother me. Deluge...hmmmm, could be fun......lightning!? Not so much! I went anyway. Brought Mairead. Met Doug & 147 other folks who'd also decided that it was okay to run in...we weren't in a part of the city that was having street flooding (we seemed to have several of those)...Saucony reps graciously loaned several of us new shoes to test drive in the puddles, thereby insuring that we had dry foot wear to get home in! (I put "slippery when wet" in the comments section! ) I really did try to avoid the puddles - for awhile! bet I added at least a 1/4 mile of side stepping before I gave it up! & then they still gave out a coulpa prs of shoes, t-shirts, water bottles & coupons....cool beans! Due to the potential for brief heavy rain, I ran sans electronics & couldn't get the right buttons on my Timex (guess I need more practice) my best guess is that I ran the 3.12 in 33:02....or so, ... I couldn't get it to stop right...was pushing the wrong button the whole time! anywho! Met the team captain for the relay race..hafta make a decision asap & get $$ to him if I wanna do it..(Doug says go for it!) ..it actually falls on a coupla days in Aug that aren't spoken for....not too many of those left! The biggest legs = 19.1 miles @ only 448' of elevation gain...hardest: 18.1 miles w/2,547' el gain...easiest 12miles w/154'...or something like that....the team is all 20 somethings!!..& I believe, much faster than me! Abigail says they want me "cause I'm fun!" ? hmmmmm
Well, outta coffee...
Laters!
Yea! It's Friday!
Hope BK is feeling better Leslie. There is stuff for dogs who refuse to eat, kind of like food gel stuff.Maybe there's something for cats? We have a large black cat too,his name's Lucky.(Buddy's nemesis)Last week, DS noticed him sitting outside of the back slider with a chipmonk in his mouth. It was obviously a "present" for us,so DS tried to get him to drop it. It was then than he noticed that the chipmonk was still very much alive. It wiggled it's way out of Lucky's grip and scooted away. DS was happy that he saved it's life.
Awesome sounding storms Cindy. I wish that they would have some "road tests" for shoes around here. That relay sounds very challenging, especially with a bunch of 20 somethings!
Easy 4 on the boardwalk last night followed by 1 mile on the five fingers. For some reason,my parts feel much looser the day following a barefoot run. Must be using different parts than with shoes on.
More storms last nite here also but just rain this time. Roads were muddy so we did our morning office stuff then went to our farm over east and made sure those pivots all got home and were off then went into town on very muddy roads. Parked in the retirement community parking lot (Lynda does the books there) . I did a couple of half mile loops on well graveled roads and some paving then jogged to the HS track and did 3 sets of what I do with the rea poles. I do 1 440slightly slower than 5k race pace, 220 float, 220 at race pace, 220 float, then 100 fast then recovery jog. Total of about 4 miles while Lynda did 3 slow as tommorow is her LR day.
better get back at it more later.
