Consistently Slow

Hot to trot 8 hour 34.26 miles. 68.8 mile week.  200 mile month in June and July. Most miles in a week.

0 miles this week. The knee took a beating. 59 yo. No one older run more miles.

Training  for Pistol 100 January 3,2015.

    I have a 50 miler August 31.

Should I run the race(13 hour limit ) and risk missing more training mile or do the 50 K and maintain the weekly mileage?

Run until the trail runs out.

That's a tough question.  Without knowing exactly what is going on with your knee it's hard to give any advice.  The fact that you are still considering doing the 50k instead of the 50 miler, tells me that YOU don't think it's anything too serious.  There are 4 months between races...if the knee is okay...I'd say continue with your plan and the 50 miler.

I'm with Mike on a tough question to answer.

Let me pose a question - which race is more important? If your knee (and if I recall correctly you've been battling this on and off for the last several years) is dodgy, I would get a training program that allows for miles that provide strength and allow your knee to recover while active (sort of like a hamstring injury). With my goal race in mind. If the other race falls well into a training cycle then I would run it but at training cycle paces with an eye on being patient and sticking to my plan. If it doesn't I would skip it.

I'm a bit conservative with injuries and that's how I would look at it for my personal training.

Good luck and I hope you find the right balance for you.
