    Mornin' everyone.

Happy Halloween; Happy birthday to my mother (long since gone), and my niece Moriah.

Last night I slept through the night for the first time this week. Yeah, it's been a little busy around here, with lots on my mind. For me, a solid night's sleep is way too rare. So it goes.

5 nice RW miles at 4:15 in 39F temps, and under cloudy skies.

Have a great weekend; race well if you are racing; don't forget to turn your clocks back. Best wishes for a successful day to Lamerunner and her Manchester Marathon and Half Marathon.

    Gotta go.

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Great sleeping Jay! Sorry for all the lost rest to a busy mind. That's been my week as well---lots weighing on my mind, but I slept 8.5 hours last night----a new record for me and needed!

Mini-tapering this week since I'll be running the Manchester City Marathon on Sunday with teammates. It's the last race in the USATF-NE Grand Prix series. I am just hoping the snow won't stick!  See you soon again lamerunner!

No trick or treaters in all likelihood here. We live in a cul-de-sac neighborhood a few miles from the center of town, and aside from a few neighborhood kids, it's always quiet. Mr CNYrunner always makes an optimistic purchase of several bags of candy. I am thinking that the kiddo and his roommate will get a candy filled care package next week.

I needed 5.11 miles to make it to 100 this month, so that is exactly what I ran this morning.  Rain and 42° are the conditions that caused me to do the absolute minimum. Like Hawkeye said in a M.A.S.H. episode, "Never let it be said that I didn't do the least I could do."

No birthdays in my family today, but this was my parents wedding anniversary.  My youngest brother turns 50 on Sunday.

Well, off to work. I wish we could all sit around with a beer and yak about work because the place is just crazy and I don't have anyone (safe) to gripe to.  (hint - New ceo wants to reevaluate everything we are doing and the direction we are going, etc.)

I like the surprise of seeing the late morning clock after a good sleep and bet it was quite a surprise for you to see all that extra sleep time when you woke up at 3:30 a.m. for your 4:15 a.m. run.
          .
Any other costumes for this year’s Halloween Races?
Even though it’s a day late this year, tomorrow’s Carkeek 12-hour Fun Run is maintaining the annual costume division.
          .
Unfortunately, I’ll probably get DQ’ed again because the RD found out that Japanese sandals, samue happy coat outfit and straw rice paddy hat I like aren't a costume at all but just the regular attire for me over there.  Maybe I’ll wear a ninja mask like Holly’s DD. (any photo ideas?).  oh well, along with Dave, at least I’ll do the least I can too.  Unfortunately, it’s for 12 hours. oh well. .

maybe twocat can be a mandarin.

          .

          have a happy MCM Karin

do you still have the 2013 picture?

I think they are in different states but

do you do the Thanksgiving Manchester with the PBJ jester too?

I too like Jay had a good night sleep and I was surprise when the alarm went off at 6am.

            Good luck lamerunner.

My little 8 plus hours fun run in the rain last weekend prepared me for my run this morning. It is raining really hard here. We hope the slopes that was burned up this summer are doing OK and not creating too much damage. Four miles for me this morning just to test the legs.

Good morning.  Happy Halloween! I am not much into it either, though the little kids are cute. We rarely get many trick or treaters. Street is busy and we are on the other side of it from the core neighborhood.

Thanks for the good thoughts on the marathon.  Things seem to be under control, though some last minute thing always seems to happen. We will have colder and windier weather than the last few years-- we have had chilly but sunny days mostly. I am glad we have a heated medical tent.  We will remind the volunteers to layer up.

Interesting week, sort of. I started with the Mayor;'s Cup XC race last Sunday, where I enjoyed seeing Karin and also watching the young kids run( many from the club  I used to coach), but personally ran horribly slowly and was in the midst of the worse RA flare in years. My ankle/foot joints in my right foot got so sore I could not run after that  until Wednesday.. which stank.  I did swim pretty strong Monday and Tuesday then gradually started to feel a bit better. Wednesday I ran 80 minutes on the rail trail but a few miles east of here; I had an early appointment in Portsmouth so I just stopped on the way back at a scenic  smoother section of trail.

Yesterday I ran 6.5 with a good friend, then swam at lunch, and today, ran about 8 miles on the rail trail from the Manchester end ( this trail runs east for at least 30 miles).  I managed to dodge the leaf-covered rocks and did not get shot by any arrows. I did worry a bit when a few wild turkeys crossed the trail.... but they were not wearing bright yellow Boston marathon shirts, and I was.  Gun season starts tomorrow. It is usually still ok to run on the rail trail but I probably won't venture  on the other fire roads and more remote trails for the next few weeks..

Good running to everyone!  Looking forward to seeing Karin. Busy weekend ahead.

                Best wishes for Manchester, CNY!

I blame Carolyn for this, but I was stressed this morning knowing that I should run 3.1 miles to make my prime for the month. I ended up doing something un-rochrunner-like and used my better judgement (or maybe it was my DW's better judgement) and decided to stick to my plan and wait until Sunday before testing the knee again. So once again ending the month on a factorable number.

Yea to Steve (perchcreek) signing up for Charlevoix!

I wasn't sore as I expected from yesterday's swimming so went to the gym for a good workout on the equipment. I can see that having this place to conveniently close is going to reap some benefits over the winter. I've really noticed diminishing strength the last couple of years and would like to stave it off as much as possible.

Good luck to the weekend racers!

                  Hi everyone,

Thanks for the support re: my former colleague.  Just want to make clear, she's doing well, has taken over the reigns of the private FB page started by her sisters to update us, is flying to Boston in a week or so to consult with a specialist and has named her cancer after another colleague (who is not on FB) who has always been a tad, ah, difficult, shall we say? to deal with at work.  I just am thinking of her a lot.....

Yay, jay, glad you got a good night's sleep.  Isn't that the best?

Really impressed you ran this am, Mari; you had every reason (the ultra, the rain, the winds) to give yourself the day off!

I'm wearing an orange race shirt and the Halloween medal I got last weekend.  It features a chubby starfish in swim trunks, sunglasses, and a Zorro-mask.  Not big into the holiday, although I loved it when I was a kid--the dressing up and going out and about at night in the dark just thrilled me.  Not a big candy person.  Now, if people gave out home-made cookies......

Good luck Karin  (waving at lame--you guys have fun!)  and everyone else racing this weekend.  I'm doing a sort of mini "double," a 15K Saturday and a half on Sunday.

Keep training when  you can, Kevin--you can do it!!

Great Speedster workout again last night.  Taking it easy a bit but managed a 6 mile 8:21 paced effort.  Just jogged out 3 this morning.

Happy Healthy Weekends, and Rabbit Rabbit!

5 easy paced miles for me this morning, followed by 30 minutes or so of weights and core.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Howdy Do and a Happy  Halloween to Y'all ~

The gals here at work have been working on me to dress up for Halloween.  Last night I played around a bit with putting on a cat face, but felt silly.  Maybe if I was 20 years younger.  Instead, I remembered I had a pair of orange and black stockings in my drawer from who knows when, so I donned those, my black Danskos (they look like clown shoes when not worn with pants), a black skirt, an orange T-shirt, my black cat pin, and blacked out a front tooth - my personal Ode to Halloween.  Our court runner thought I needed freckles, so I'm sporting those, as well.

Today is a rest day . . . and my last day to indulge as tomorrow I start my "no grain" eating again.  Therefore, I am happily partaking in the donuts brought by one of our bosses.  And since we're going to the movies tonight, I plan on eating a large tub of really-bad-for-you popcorn.

Other than that - pretty darn quiet in these parts!

                        King of PhotoShop

Quick stop-by.  Just home and unpacked, pizza dinner.  Hudson picked us up from DFW. I hate saying this with Holly here, but the weather was gorgeous every day.  NEVER GET THE ALL-INCLUSIVE!  Ate and drank like pigs all week.  But we did run every day, so that was okay.

As to the Japanese dinner, Tet, they had one restaurant called "the Mikado", a common one for these hibachi places, and we had an excellent meal. I felt bad I couldn't lure you in on the waiter who said hi, but I tried.  They had a sports bar, the only bad food, which was our place of choice Wednesday night for the World Series. We rooted for KC, but I have no complaints.  SF has a magnificent organization and it's hard to not like them.  Baseball purists raved over this series.  I loved every minute of it.

The fourth restaurant was Mexican, emphasis on seafood and it was outstanding. Twocat would have gone nuts.  I ate so much food I thought I had gone crazy.  This Sunday Half is going to suck.  Great being home.  Lucy was so happy!  Spareribs

I have no idea how anybody could not be into Halloween.  It is just a happy, silly day.  It was always my favorite as a kid and remains so as an adult!  Alas, we have had one (yes, one) trick-or-treater and that looks to be it for this year.

I did not think my talk in Beijing went that well. At the office today I was told by the program's dean I was a rock star!  That was a nice surprise.  I guess you never know how to read a foreign audience.  In running news, tomorrow is my last double digit run pre-marathon.  I plan to do 13.  Now I just need the rain to hold off!  You know the rule!

                            Trails are hard!

I'm with you, TwoCat.  We love Halloween, too.  A couple of shots of our decorations of today.  It all goes up and then down in one day.  Of course, a lot of repacking tomorrow.   We had about 40 kids.

6.1 miles this morning at 8am before diving into the decorating.  Thought I was sort of loafing along, but ended up sproinky.  9:12 average, with a couple of 9 flat miles.  Maybe actually being awake to run helps?

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

                                thanks amy.

for some reason, I can't stop thinking about eating chocolate chip cookies all day long at tomorrow's Carkeek 12-hour Fun Run.

I don't ever remember seeing any but I'll have to look for some Mexican food on any next trip to Japan, maybe January it seems. Glad I don't have to do those trips for one day anymore as once happened to me too when I was about two-cat's age too.  I bet twocat didn't even get to savor any of those greasy Peking duck dishes. hmmmm. .

                                .

ps - good job stumps.  Trick or treat?
