Having Ev in charge of anything is a big mistake.

Ev, stop it would ya?  We're looking at highs of 100 or thereabouts for the next several eons days.  I slogged outside yesterday, but retreated to the gym pool today.  Much better, but dashed any thoughts I might have of doing a triathlon.  I have no idea on swim technique, and won't put my face in the water, but thrashing about in the water for several laps is still a workout of sorts, so I'm counting it.  Cindy, your "light" schedule is making me tired just reading it.  Joe, I'm sorry for the pain of the dad you never really had.  That's really hard around father's day, but I'm glad you have your kids as evidence of what you learned not to do.   Leslie, glad your kitties are holding their own.  LOL on the multiple meds and burrito kitty Smile. Nice hill work!

Thanks Guys, I try not to be one who whines, but that felt good to get off my chest.

Jim- Nice race for you and Lynda!! WTG and great pics!

Ev- you can keep that heat of yours west of the Mississippi please! I'll take the rain forest weather we have going instead of that stuff!

Carol- Good going on your mileage, maybe another motivating factor to keep up the consistency.

Jewels- Sounds like you're hitting the gym pretty hard. The more you do ,the easier it is to keep going.

Leslie- Nice going on your BIG mileage week.Watch out for that road rage stuff. You never know who you're dealing with. There's a thread over Off the Beaten about it now.

Cindy- you're schedule is insane and it's no wonder you're tired!

My father is now heading up to visit one of my sister's in PA. God help her.I called and told her what to expect. He's not all bad and of course won't live forever so like I said,I'll just try to let the hard feelings go.It's not worth it.

         quitters never win

Wow, what full plates we all have!

Jim - I really liked the pics, and congrats on the AG placement! Too fun!

Joe - sorry about your dad, seems you took the opportunity to learn/remind yourself about some important life lessons.

Leslie - WTG on those big miles! With lots of hills, too! BTW, I want your weather....and we haven't even begun to get really hot around here.

Carol - you crack me up with your swimming description! I have the same problem, thought I was going to have to DNF during the swim leg of a sprint tri ("hey, I can swim 400 yds, that ain't much! Ha!). They say if you keep at it, the technique comes....let us know....

Jewels - you have my admiration for hitting the gym, it's hard to keep up with the cross-training.

Ev - don't know how you can take that H&H. Blechhh...

Tomorrow I'm outta here to move mom to Fresno over the weekend. I'm gonna need a beer or two (or six) after all this!

          Arla

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

Arla - Nice to hear from you!  Good luck on the last (or second to last) leg of the move.

Ladies (and guys, if you're interested) - This site is a hoot to read, http://www.stumptuous.com/?aid=51, plus it has some really great tips for strength training for women.  A reader's comment in the section title "The Gym Will Bite You.  Be Afraid":

Reader Marge writes: ‘When you wrote about the warnings women get from guys who think we’re too delicate, I was reminded of my 4 or 5 years in construction work. I was in my late twenties, started installing fire sprinkler systems in 1980. The guys were so-o-o worried (some for their jobs, some sincerely; it was really hard work.), but one union official really stuck in my mind.
In a very “I have it on the best authority” voice, he said to me, “Do you know why women have quit this trade?” He continued, “In the vast majority, their ovaries dropped!” I must have given him some kind of “huh?”. He nodded vehemently and repeated. “The vast majority of women who have taken up this trade have quit because their ovaries dropped!” I’m thinking, “Where? On the floor? Will I have to carry them with me, truss them up, or what?” And I’m also thinking, there are only two women in this trade in the whole state, and I’m one of them, and I know the other one, and she never mentioned a thing about her ovaries, so what the hell is a majority? Never did find out. Never dropped ‘em, either. ;o) I did screw up my knees, but that’s a separate issue, and the guys in the trades did the same.’

I've got some good news and some good news.  The good news is the humidity is dropping.  The good news is now when it's 100 it feels like it's only 100.

It's actually only 98F right now.  I'm waiting till about 7:00 and then going out for a 6er.  My mini vacation started 30 minutes ago.

              Party on!

              Quit being so damn serious!

You think your humidity is leaving. Ev??  Heh!  shipping more yer way as we speak!!!      'course....it looks like we'll be keeping just a little of it ~ as it's currently raining @ an inch an hour pace! some folks must be getting hail as the temps dropped pretty sudden like too.

Would welcome some rain here.  All around me has gotten some good rain this past week, but has bypast my little corner of the world.  You can keep the hail.  (Can you say that on the internet?)

Normal rainfall for June around here is about 2.3 inches,we have already had over 8.5 inches and is raining again now. It's also the second coolest June on record!

About 75* @ runtime and finished before it poured. 100 pushups and 100 sittups along the way.Closed out with the last 3m of 8m @ 8:36 per. July 11th is my annual Belmar 5 miler so I'll be bumping up the tempo runs for a bit.

Good luck with yer Mom Arla. Don't forget the beers, you deserve them

Got the 6er with DW in.   Good run.

Joe, I've heard it said that the right people always come into our lives at the right time.  We might not realize what we are to learn from or share with those people, but trust that good becomes of it.  So it may be with your father.  You are wise to let the hard feelings go. You're right, it's not worth it.

Arla, you're a good daughter for taking care of your mom.  My mother needs a little extra care also.  My sisters do a great job.  Me, not so much.  I intend to do better with her.  (Maybe the beers will help me also  )

Carol, glad you got that swim workout in.  Good idea to trade a run for a pool workout.

Joe (again) nice work on the pushups and situps.  I need to incorporate those.  Dutchie, over on Leslies weekly thread, tried to get me to do 50.  I started out 10/day and quit after a couple days.  I've picked up the nickname "slacker" over there.  Sticks and stones.......

mtn.....once that high pressure system eases up, we might get some of that rain.

Parade of crop and irrigation insurance adjusters plus 3 seed company agronomists, have been making the rounds thru here. Some conflicting advice on what to do from here. On the crop side some are urging replant on some of the corn, but much too late and anything the replanted crop would make would take away from insur dollars. Oh and the other thing is I do not have a planter (mine broke in two) and the irrigation system is laying on the ground and the timetable is uncertain on having it rebuilt or a new one put in.I had a nice used planter spotted in S KS but if we don't replant I'd rather take my time and find exactly what I want.

The wheat is near maturity so what you see is what you get on it.  I have wheat sold ahead and hopefully have enough to fill contracts as I have it sold at a good price. Not a big deal if we can't fill just won't be able to take advantage of good marketing.

We have some corn marketed ahead also using futures hedges and cash contracts. We have redone yield projections there and tweaked our positions. Warm dryer weather of yesterday and today is of benefit to dry out and stop rotting of damaged plant material still hooked on the plant. The rotting hailed off plant material gives the air the smell of silage, kinda stinky. We have three fields of irrigated corn that were only lightly hailed so we are giving those fields our top priority pumping on fert again.

The rest is wait and see for now. So I keep running all these scenarios thru my head hoping I have all my bases covered. This will be a summer to be endured not enjoyed but thankful we are coming off some good years and have the crop insurance coverage that have not always been available and that we are covered as well as we are.

Run for fun? What the hell kind of recreation is that?  quote from Back to the Fut III

                              Morning, Everyone -

I was so stinking tired this a.m. after little sleep last night, that I bagged my 3-mile run and just concentrated on strength/core.  I just got the book "Body for Life" and have been perusing through it.  A lot of the exercises shown in there I'm already doing (except those showing gym equipment).  So I upped my weights and am incorporating some different stomach/back work, and we'll see where it takes me.  I can tell that I'm going to be sore tomorrow, but a nice sore.

I'm  also gonna start looking for a bench for a couple of those exercises, and am going to try and talk The Hub into letting me install a wall chin up bar in my workout room.  So hopefully all this, with some minor changes in diet, things will start to change for the better.

Had to do my run on the dreadmill this am...have a couple extra little girls overnight - one's not old enough to be left "home alone" while I run around the neighborhood, soooo...guess that's why I have the contraption....not that I really know how to use it?  I have the incline set on 10, the speed I varied btwn 2-4...being cautious abt going too slow or too fast...monitors flash btwn different values - none of which make much sense to me, so I ran for abt 50 mins - until little girls were at the top of the stairs "Gramma? Graaammmaaa!" - requiring attendance for breakfast & such....   Mairead, however, is not sure what's up w/that!?...running clothes, but we didn't go anywhere? then running friend stops by (also not in running clothes??) gets coffee & brownies (non for 'Raid) & also left w/o running?? (she's off to Country Jam in Grand Junction - & she graciously agreed to transport brownies to a guitar playing friend of mine who's on deck for the entertainment...)

Another hot & stormy day on deck for here again...yesterday had "scoopable" volume of hail again just a few miles from here....tiny stuff, but alot of it!! not over any crops that I know of...but just good rain here @ the house...

Ev, not that I'm wishing hail on anyone, but it does bring with it a noticeable temperature drop!
