It's taken about a year for the hammy to heal, but I'm not out of the woods yet. A few months after the hamstring tear was diagnosed, I was also diagnosed with a glute tear, and have been diagnosed with other hip related stuff, so the recovery has been complicated. For the past month I've been limited to swim only, with no kicking. Haven't run or biked in over a month. ;-(
My understanding is that recovery on hamstring tears is highly variable, depending on location and extent of the tear. I think there's a fairly well established protcol for rehab, which includes eccentric resistance training. A good PT would be familiar with this.
