TGIF 4/3 Runs, Rests and Respect (Read 514 times)

Mr. Chip & Mizz Rizzo

I still have a heavy heart for our dear TomD and thought of him during my run last night. After dinner I got out for my run last night. 5.38 miles - 10:58 avg. pace - 159 avg. HR As always the evening runnning just seemed harder, but the weather was great! High 50's with a light wind. Oh, I also discovered that if you have your alarm clock firmly plugged in - it works great! Roll eyes I had plugged in the baby (puppy) monitor the other night and must have loosed the alarm clock plug just a tad. At least I hadn't bought another one yet. Today is DH's 6-month no-smoking anniversary. I left him a card by his coffee and I'll take him out to dinner tonight. Taking a rest day today.

Mary - congratulations to your DH for the no smoking. I smoked for 15 years, and quit when I got pregnant with DS. I knew I would never have a better reason to quit than that. I, too, have spent a lot of time thinking sadly of Tom. A love like Tom and Donna doesn't come around very often, maybe never for many people. I hope and pray Tom can get through this without being crushed by it. No run for me today, no x-training, nothing, nada, zilch. Instead I slept in to 6:00 am (!) and made pancakes for DD. Bizarrely, I’m another lb down this morning, which makes a total of 3 lbs lost during taper. How does THAT happen? I’ve been trying to lose that weight for, like, a year. Suddenly when I’m barely running the weight drops right off. Of course, it’s easier to snack less when I’m not STARVING all the time and don't have the excuse of a tomorrow run to fuel up for... Roll eyes Tonight we are taking the kids to a Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt. An Easter Egg Hunt in the dark - how cool is that? DD’s going to wear the headlamp DH brought home from work, so she can have both hands free. It’s right on time, too, because our candy bowl is getting kind of low…. Wink

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Good morning Smile Congrats to your DH Mary, that really is sooo great... hope you guys have a nice dinner...nice run too. But I love night time running and hate running in the morning...funny how we are all different. Like I have said before, my resting HR is always the lowest in the late afternoon and evening which is prolly why I run better at night time. I have asked my doctor about this, but he said it was just a bio rhythm difference I have compared to others...no biggie he said. Mary, after reading your post again this stood out to me...you ran after dinner. Boy, I don't think I could do that unless I had dinner at 3:00 in the afternoon. On my night time runs, dinner is what I can't wait for when I finish. Wow Holly, I know how much those few extra pounds bugs ya (even though most woman would give anything to look like you, few extra pounds or not Wink). Hope you have a great race, and all of us here will be thinking about you on race day Smile After the news about Tom and Donna yesterday, my run doesn't seem very important in the scheme of things...but 6.5 recovery paced miles last night - 9:30 ave pace. A funny story Mary will appreciate I am sure. When I started my run through my apartment complex last night, a hound looking dog came running up to me....I could tell it was a doggie just looking for attention, and the owner said "he's a nice dog and won't bite ya". Then the dog came right up to me and I reached down to pet it. At that point the critter lifted it's leg and peed on my left leg and foot..........rotten rascal I thought, but had to laugh actually. The owner apologized profusely and said the dogs name was Henry...I said "what do I look like Henry, a fire hydrant or something" Big grin TGIF TimBo

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

I'm glad you discovered how electrical outlets work Mary. That's a good thing to know ... Wink No, you likely looked more like a tree trunk Tim. Tongue Don't question the pounds lost Holly. Just accept it. I have the opposite problem going. This FIRST training program is low mileage but my appetite is still on the Pfitz program. "Fighting Weight" is a ways off. Speaking of which, cross training day ahd me rowing this morning and working out the core. I sure do drip sweat when I'm rowing! Bill

Tom has been in my thoughts since I read Amy's post. Good morning, everyone. I haven't posted in a bit -- too much stuff going on I guess. My run this morning was a bit faster than I'd targeted because I wasn't paying attention after some striders. I don't think it'll hurt the weekend's workouts, though -- it wasn't that fast. 4.1 miles, 35:23, 8:42/mi, AHR 144 (74% MHR) I slept in this morning -- taking the day off to brew some beer. There's just too much to do this weekend to take almost a whole day doing that, I have a lot more PTO than PDR so I have to even it out a bit, and from a work perspective we are in just a bit of a lull between two major reviews with the customer. Nice confluence of rationalizations reasons. Czech Pilsner. Yum.

Oh Tim! I do appreciate that story because I had it happen to me once too. Uck!! I didn't run right after dinner- I waited a while for it to settle and I didn't eat a big meal either. DD#1 just called and said that skate boarding to work was not one of her best ideas! Roll eyes Good grief ..... I could have told her that!! It is a 3 mile commute from her apartment - many uphills and today the wind is really blowing out of the North. Tomorrow we are going bike shopping - that will be an easier commute. Goofy kids!

Good morning and happy Friday, all! Mary - no puppies yet?? Congrats to your DH - that is wonderful for both of you. Holly - I want to go on the flashlight hunt as well! Sounds like fun! Treadmill tempo run this morning. It started out as an easy recovery run, but I felt surprisingly sproinky for a Friday and kept kicking the speed up. 6.75 miles with an AHR of 148. Usually by Friday the heart rate is soaring regardless of the pace. Looks like our weather wil moderate for the weekend - long enough for me to get in another 20 miler, and then we're back to cold weather again next week -drat. Not as cold as our Alaskan friend, though, so I won't complain too loudly. Well maybe just whine a little. Good weekend to all and speedy feet to our weekend racers!

Mary.....Tell your DH Congrats. My dirty little secret......I've been a non-smoker for 15 months Roll eyes I did a Half Ironman, 2 Marathons and countless 5k's, 10k's 4 milers as a smoker. It's a tough habit to kick. I picked it up in High school but it really became cemented when I was in the Army. Amy Barrows is my hero.....When she decided to quit she also decided to hold every possible Amatuer Womens record in her state ! Holly, congrats to you too for becoming a non-smoker. WRFB.......Whatchamakin ? I'm in the mood for a good Oatmeal Stout. I took a day off....Not planned. Did a good core work out and hopped on the indoor trainer for 35 mins. I was going to do an easy 20 min maint run but My right shin shot me a couple of daggers.....I've been running pretty hard so maybe it was time to take a day off..... SWIM this morning......I've had a couple of break thru sessions here lately that has given me some great confidence in my workout strategy. Time to turn it up a notch ! Great Running to everybody.......

Slo_Hand - congrats to you, too! Nono - jump on back in as soon as you're ready. I have to make a correction - the Easter Egg Hunt is tomorrow night - I read the calendar wrong.

SLO - that is nothing to roll your eyes at .... Congratulations to you too!! I'll be sure to pass along the good wishes from all of you to DH ..... I am proud of him. Holly - that Easter egg hunt sounds like a blast! Good luck with your marathon this weekend.

Hope you guys don't mind. I just wanted to share this......I was organzing some photo's last night. Out of the 12 1st cousins.....4 have a birthday that falls either a few days before Christmas or a few days after Christmas so my Parents throw a Half Birthday Party for them. This year the weather was "picture" perfect. The whole day was just one of those picture perfect moments that will last in our memories for a long time. I could post a dozen pictures from this day much like the one below....... My Mom has quite a green thumb.......what you see is a very small portion of her hard work.

great family time you are having slo-hand. my heart aches for Tom and wit Tom. Please cherish your loved one...life is too short not too. go holly goooooooooo. I know you are going to have a great race...maybe even a BQWink 8 slow with 5x30 sec. striders sprinkled here and there.. these were sproinkless miles Dead but you can't be on the mountain top in every single run, right?

Slo_Hand – beautiful family! And what a nice idea, the “half-birthday.” I assume that means it was in June?
go holly goooooooooo. I know you are going to have a great race...maybe even a BQWink
Shhhhhhh, I’m nervous enough as it is.......Like I was telling Timbo, I honestly don't know how I'll do. We'll just have to see. My very first goal is to finish without injury, so if something flares up during the race that seems like more than normal pain, I'll pull back the pace, because this is not my A race and I don’t want to get hurt right at the beginning of the season of great running weather. But I'm hoping that won't be a problem. BQ for me is 3:50:59. Really if I finish at 4:00:00 or less I will consider it a very good day. But who knows? I may flame out at mile #15 and shuffle the rest of the way in....I hope not, though..... Dg wrote:
Holly so neat your DD wants to run wtih you! You planted that seed a long time ago. I just remembered her waiting for you outside when you came home from your run.... saying "Go Mommy, go Mommy!". Was that in CR days or here? Bet you could get away with posting that picture again. Wink.
You mean this picture? Big grin Okay, okay, I guess I should get some work done now...

Great pictures Slo and Holly...your DD is adorable...like daughter - like mom Smile. Slo, your picture makes me look forward to nice - warm summer days, when I get to chill out in the beautiful out doors Smile I just realized I totally spaced something I forgot to tell you all about. I had a follow up appt last week for my (none) AT in my left foot. I have already been back running quite awhile now and I am doing great. Out of orneriness I went and ahead and kept my appt with My foot Doc - Doctor Thorne. After he analyzed my foot and put me through a series of tests he said Tim "you are now ready to start some PT work and some more exercises before I release you to resume running". Big grin hehe I thought as I told the jackass I had been running well now since the middle of January, and I am up over 50 miles a week now, with some speed work too...........and absolutely pain free. He just gave me the "dear in the headlight look" and I thanked him for his help (didn't mean it though) and I left. This is a great example for all of us to remember - we always can't rely on "these so called specialists" to take care of us "runners"...with common sense, sometimes we know what's best for us, huh? Like Holly, I need to get my work done. TimBo
