30-min 40's
crutch-assisted
===========
there is something Magical about The Track
I hadn't been
on one is about 18-months,
but today
I went.
the lanes were too much impact,
so I moved into the padded infield,
about 3 laps in
I noticed my stride had normalized,
my pace
was steady and actually picked up as I went around,
some other runners passed me,
and
nobody made me feel self-conscious.
Runners are Good People at the track.
...........and I could have kept going.................so gues where I'm heading NEXT Sunday??

I can run again!!

One of the many inspirational runners on this forum. Thanks tw
TomS or should I say Mr. Consistant great job on your race yesterday... in yaks even
I almost wore my yaks in a race for the 1st time yesterday but decided against it and went with trail shoes. I officially ended with a 1:25:46 for the tough 10 miles, now I remember that I forgot to turn off the garmin when I finished.
tw way to keep at it, I luv your never give up atitude
5.5 easy miles with DW & the club (but we took up the rear)
Courage ! Do one brave thing today...then run like hell.
aka kameele
To quote a famous Ev, a 3'er for me this morning on a gorgous 25 degree morning. As DW says, once a week isn't gonna cut it, but this one felt pretty nice consdiering.
We both went to visit the duaghter of one of our firends for haircuts before the big party yesterday, and there just happened to be a Marshalls almost next door. I took a quick run over just to see. Came away with a nice pair of Nike running shorts and fleeced shirt at well less than 1/2 price. Got the offficial from DW when I got back. But you can't let bargains like that slip by.
Bravo, TW!! you are one of the good people, for sure.
Next? Could there be 26.2 somewhere???
I can dream, can't I?
In the meantime--Ukrops' 10K March 31st.
tomw, you just keep plugging away. You are role model for all of us.
Nice long runs for fatozzig and Sarge.
This morning, it didn't look too bad outside but I did the TM anyway. I planned on 5 miles, alternating between 5.7 mph (10:31 pace) and 5.8 mph (10:20 pace). About 2.8 miles into the run, my hand accidentally hit the cord to the safety shut off and stopped the TM. I plugged back in and started back at what I thought was the pace I was doing when I inadvertently aborted the run. I did another 2.2 miles, bumping the speed up and down a tenth of a mph every half mile. It seemed a little hard but I figured I was tired from yesterday's race and the first 2.8 miles. Just before I got to the end, I looked at the display and found I had set the speed a mile per hour faster than I intended so was alternating betwee 6.7 mph (8:57 pace) and 6.8 mph (8:49 pace). When I told my wife about it, she said that maybe that's an indication I haven't been pushing myself enough. I told her I didn't like pain when I run. I'm estimating my run at 5 miles, about 48:47 for time, and 9:45 for pace.
A good day and good runs for all.

New skirt in town
TomS, I took to the treadmill, as well. It was still dark out when I started my run, and I just wasn't sure about black ice on the roads. 12.49 miles and a few episodes of "Breaking Bad" later, I was done.
TomW, sounds like a magical run at the track!

Well done TW.
Your mind can play tricks on you huh TomS? Good workout.
And a nice 12+ for you Robin.
My RP and I signed up yesterday for a local 15K. It's a big one and very popular here. I didn't expect to run it well after this tough week, so I ran it at half marathon pace and that turned out to be a wise decision. I slightly negative split the race, feeling very comfortable on the way out, then working harder coming home once I knew I was going to be okay.
I was 2nd AG in 1:18:31 (8:27's) and my RP won her women's 45-49 AG in 1:09, so we had a really fun day. Spareribs
Just back from my 5 miles for the day. I have a pot of lentil soup going and the house smells great. Now to settle in for some football. Maybe I better make some bread to go with my soup.
Sounds like everyone is "gettin er done" this weekend. Lots of great racing and look at the persistance of the two Toms. I am humbled most days I visit here.

I love this!
And TomS, with that speedy 5-miler the day after a race - very nice!
Spareribs - nice racing for you and your RP, and on a take-it-easy race picking up 2nd AG - sweet!
I went out for a shortish loop this morning to test the roads, but the light layer of ice on everything was still pretty treacherous. Frustrating, since the temps were fairly pleasant at 28 degrees, but it was getting too late to run down the center of the streets (too much traffic) and the sidewalks were just a mess, so I headed back home and hopped on the TM, where my run was interrupted a zillion times as I hopped on and off for various family stuff. So, no quality today, but I got some time on my feet.
17.15 miles total - 4 miles outside, 13.15 on the TM watching Abducted.
Winter Series race became an informal race, i.e., no time keeping, due to poor course conditions. So ended up being a 200 person group run, with most of us running real easy due to the ice and snow. Acturally turned out to be fun with many of the slower runners leading the pack and the faster runners just running easy cheering them on.
After race, a cup of hot chocolate, a frozen Philly pretzel then out for another 10 easy miles with a buddy on ice and snow. Total about 14+ miles at a slower pace which I rarely do but I should probably do it more often. Actually a fun time despite 14-20F temps, snow, clear ice, etc.
But like TW said it is the Runners that make it great sometimes.

"In running, it doesn't matter how fast or slow you are relative to anyone else. You set your own pace and you measure your own progress. You can't lose this race because you're not running against anyone else. You're only running against yourself, and as long as you are running, you are winning." We were without power for almost 2 days, and snowed-in prior to that. Some tree limbs fell from the heavy ice and snow just 4 houses down the street and brought down a line, and it took them awhile to get to us. So that was not fun. I did heat up water once on the gas grill in a pot for coffee and hot chocolate. We got out the sleeping bags and stayed warm at night, but during the day we went out a few times (most of the snow had cleared by then luckily) to the mall or to eat something hot. It was 50F in the house, 40F outside, thank god not any colder outside. Other than that, a 5 hour game of monotony, er I mean monopoly was had.
So that meant no TM run, no snow/ice run, my current running streak suddenly broken at 20 days! Oh well, I am starting to wonder what the point of a steak is anyway. It did help to re-motivate me, but I think I should go back to 5 or 6 days a week.
Roads were clear enough today so I went out for 3, pace was slower than expected after two days off, what gives?, then home to do 3 more on the TM. It was raining and windy outside.
TomS, loved that TM/pace story. I suppose we can all do more than we think we can.
Anyone see Jimmyb's comics (it was mentioned on the main forum)
They are all pretty cute, but here is the one that made me LOL.
Nice work Jimmy!

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."
Nice racing for Sarge and Mrs. Sarge, MikeE and his gang, TomS, Ribs and his RP, and Shadowrunner. Seems like a lot of racing for a mid-January weekend!
The predicted snow all stayed on the west side of the divide, so we just got wind out of this storm system. I ran 8 character-building miles in 20° and 20 mph winds, gusting to 35 mph. The dogs came along for the first 3 miles. I was planning on 13+ miles to get back to a 40 mile week, but the wind kept getting stronger and I wasn't really dressed for it, so I cut it short. At least the sun is out. I was thinking of jdmom and how much she loves the wind!
One of my yaktrax broke on my run today. I'm not sure if I kept the good one from the last pair when one broke. I'll have to go back through the recommendations from the last couple of days on good traction devices and order something. I'd try screw shoes, except typically I only need the yax for part of my run, and the other part is clear, so I want something I can remove easily.
Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday!
Carolyn
I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.
