Monday - 9/8 - Runs and observations (Read 470 times)

Dave59

Good Morning! 5.5 miles this morning with 5x5 minutes at a faster pace. I thought I was having an exceptional run only to find out that my time was only 15 seconds faster than last week on this same course when I felt slow and tired. Feelings are deceiving but the watch never lies. Smile I hope all you weekend racers had a good time.

4 nice cool miles last night. This weather is great and a plesant bonus for running, but I hope it is not a sign of an early winter. It is nice to run and not hobble around the next day too...ankle definately better, but always giving me little hints to not push it. Uneventful weekend for the most part. Finally put the last of the base molding down in our dining room thus completing our first cut, nail, sand, stain, finish hardword floor project ever. It looks great. We learned a lot about what works and what doesn't, and feel like we are well prepared to tackle the next room which is twice the size. First soccer game of the season for my son. He managed to catch a cold and wasn't feeling well, but their team pulled out a win, so they were excited. Happy Monday...Janet
Good morning, all! Dave - nice kickoff this morning. Yes, feelings can definitely be deceiving. Janet - glad to hear the ankle is doing better. Hanna didn't wreak as much havoc as expected here in my part of CT. We slept in yesterday because we didn't think we could do the trail at our usual time. We got a very late start which was not good - over 70degrees with 98% humidity. Thankfully it was overcast for the first 14 miles or so. Then the sun came out and the wind died. 20 miles @ 10:17 pace and 164 AHR. 7 easy miles on the treadmill this morning - 9:47 average pace and 147 AHR. One of the "peeping Tom" bachelor turkeys was admiring himself in the glass of our basement slider Saturday morning. He was in full strut and making romantic noises (at least romantic to a hen turkey). Good runs to all!

"Well it was not the time I wanted, but I finished(this course was not going beat me 2 years in a row)...it was hot and I obviously was not as ready as I wanted to be...4:03:56...PW But I got a cool tech shirt, nice medal and I won a $50.00 gift certificate in the drawing...so I'm a winner after all My Coach was running the half and hurt his hamstring...pulled out at mile 7...he was very proud of me for finishing...life is good Did not see Divechief or Arf " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gordon- So sorry to read about your PW...congrats on 'not letting the course beat you twice'... You are so much more talented than this time. Marathons are tricky beasts and many things conspire against us to defeat our goals. I wish you much luck in your next attempt as you will likely do so very much better. After all, you're using up all the bad luck with these past ones, right? Rest, recover and re-train. I have confidence that your PW will be followed by many PR's in 2009. Best, Dale

Good Morning! Gordon – even if it was not the time you wanted, I still think you did a great job. Smile Wildchild – congratulations on your 10K PR! Dave59 – crazy how different perceived effort can be from one day to the next, isn’t it? HandyMom – good news about the ankle. Sue – your turkeys crack me up. Smile No run for me today, just the usual 30-minutes of weights and core exercises. Happy Monday!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Sox fans kindly send checks my way. Thanks to our generosity, you guys are now poised for the top slot. You are 2 games back in the loss column and you have 3 at Fenway against the Rays, where you own them! Lester goes tonight and he hasn't been beat by them, so no excuses this 3 game set. I expect to see you on top by Wednesday. Waiting forthe Saint to come home from taking Riblet to school and we're going to walk short and slow. Yesterday's 8 tired me a bit. Spareribs

Janet—congrats on the floor. We did ours a couple of years ago so I know how much work that can be. Dave—“The watch never lies”…that’s worthy of a T-shirt. Sue—nice long one Sunday. Gordon—you deserve a rest day. Tough one yesterday; the weather gods were not cooperating. Wait’ll next year! Easy 5.1 miles @ 9:10. Humid as heck.

                  Be safe. Be kind.

Gordon you had a very hot weather for your victory lap yesterday so please don't feel bad about the result. Your time is actually pretty good for such a weather you had. I am proud of you my friend. Come to Portland in a month for a much cooler marathon. BTW, those who are planning to run the Portland, OR marathon please read the update on the thread. Aamos, are you doing the Portland marathon? or was I just dreaming Smile 7 miles a-la-predawn this morning. The stars were so brilliant and the breeze so fresh.

In Dallas, a robber went into a convenience store armed with a bat and a knife. He left with a lot of condoms and an energy drink. When the local police interviewed store manager Abdul "Elvis" Bashir, he stated "It could have been worse. When I saw he was after the condoms and energy drinks, I hid all the Viagra." As usual, great Sunday long runs: Holly, Timbo, Breger (despite dragging a little after 10), PDR, Walt, Tramps (when I read your post the first time when you took your walk break, I thought you said "I recommitted to fishing"), Karin, Craig, Lou, Enke, Sarge, Evanflein, Tet, Sue. TomWhite: That was gutsy, trying to sweat out an oncoming cold. How you feeling now (other than sleepy)? dg: Really proud of you...both you & Holly have made tremendous strides in the past few weeks...and sub-10 pace on top of that.
I must have looked pretty pathetic. It was kind of funny (but nice)... 2 times someone said to me, "good job!". that has never happened before
Well, that's better than what I get...twice in the last 3 weeks, after I finished and I was sitting on a bench drinking water & cooling off, someone walked up to me & said, "are you OK"? Gordon: Sounds like it was a major struggle in the heat...you're still to be congratulated for a superb effort....you'll kill 'em next time. Carolyn: Told you so! New PR...that's fabulous. You need to hire me as your agent. A truly rotten day yesterday..nobody really wanted to drive all the way to Richmond for the race and then back again...so we played golf in the morning...and I stunk. I bet 3 NFL games...and lost 2. Then my favorite driver Ryan Newman wrecked...on pit road of all places. Something must have carried over to this morning...5.2 miles in a slow 48:22 (9:19)..as Tramps previously mentioned very high humidity in our part of the country...it really got to me & I ended up walking 7 times. Hope you guys do much better than me... DickyG

                        One day at a time

Go, Red Sox! DH and DS are so excited about going to the game tonight. I'm glad they've got good weather for it. My friend and I ran 6.7 miles this morning in 1:14:00 - what a great run after my terrible one on Saturday! You'd think I'd learn by now, but after that stinker, I was wondering if I was meant to keep running. And then two days later, running is fun again. Maybe I'll remember this experience next time. I was also happy that my friend kept up with me. She hasn't been running enough on her own, so I'm nervous about how she'll do at our HM on 9/21. She's a tough Scot, though, so I bet she'll be OK. Happy fall running to everyone! 51 degrees this morning felt great!

5 slow with the Saint, 16:30's. We were both tired. And here is another rant while I am at it: Don't the Cowboys have to play 16 games like everyone else and then win in the playoffs before they can have the Lombardi trophy? I am so tired of the sports media down here. They practically canonized the team after one win against the Browns. The Browns! Okay, rant off. At least my Jets won. Here's to old guys. Spareribs
Gordon--I've run a few 5 hour marathons--think I know a little how you feel. You finished under tough conditions. You know, I only just started wearing a HRM, and while I knew weather is important, it is truly incredible how much of an impact it has on HR. I hope you feel good about finishing (and spending the $50!). Enke and Mari--to a former eastcoaster & Sox fan, "the Portland Marathon" means downeast, a/k/a Maine! Gee whiz Janet, you are handy. Carolyn--Congrats on the PR--at over 8000 feet, wow Shocked! I'm copying Holly and having a gym day. grins, A
