"Lifetime" race registration? (Read 133 times)

The Grand Rapids Maration (& Half) sent an email announcement that they are offering a one-time, lifetime race registration option. This would allow you to compete in the full or half marathon as long as the event stays in existence. I think that the fee was about $650, and since marathon registrations are creeping up to the $80-$100 range now, it might be a good deal for someone with a lot of racing years ahead of them. Has anyone heard of this being done by other events? It's a bit of a gamble for a number of reasons, but maybe for runners who live in the general area and compete there most years, it would be a good deal.

The Equinox used to do this several years ago, not sure if they still do. If they do, I'm sure the price has crept up there but it's sort of a low budget race anyway.
