Sunday June 8 Runs and Other Assorted Mischief (Read 38 times)

Marathon Maniac #957

    Good Morning!

Everything is a bit creaky and stiff today, but nothing in particular hurts especially, so I consider that a success.

5 slow and creaky recovery miles this morning in 72 degrees.

This is the first week I have run 50 miles since December, 2013.  Pace Bunny, watch out!  I'm gaining on you.

Gardening and cleaning on tap for me today.  My MIL is coming to visit this Wednesday, and she is allergic to our cat, so I am dusting, vacuuming, and washing like crazy in an effort to minimize it.  I also bought an air purifier, which I have been running non-stop for a week.  Plus, we gave Max the cat a bath last week.  He was not entirely thrilled, but to give him credit, he didn't complain too much.

    Enjoy the day!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

      ...mornin' holly////////......Nice Running.........

      as I turned

into the school parking lot, a cop drove by with his lights on,

I waved at him and he waved back

I WAS on the wrong side of the road,

      but

just cannot put my back to traffic.............between the text-ers and the cell phon-ers it just seems Nuts to me

Hi Holly, TomW, and everyone to follow!

Congrats on a good run yesterday, Holly, and a good recovery run today. Good of you for making the effort to get the house decatized for your MIL - not easy to do while the Max is still there. Our cat has never (since we've had her) had a bath, but I can imagine her not taking to it too kindly.

Nice ride, TomW! I'm glad the cop wasn't coming to get you...

Can't wait to here Mariposai's tale of her marathon yesterday!

Mike, it would be easy to create a rain garden in your swale, and it would stop it from being so mushy. Tomorrow, I'll post some links to good sites that can help you design and install a rain garden.

11.8 RW miles this morning, starting a little later than usual (4:50). It was a delightful morning, with temps in the mid-60s, a breeze from the west, a strong sun, and just some wispy clouds to create some interest in the sky. My legs were still tired from yesterday's rain garden installation (lots of trips with wheel-barrows full of mulch, etc.), so I just focused on form rather than speed.

Late yesterday afternoon (sunny and near 80), DW and I went for a walk on a near-by beach, and then had cocktails on the deck before dinner. It was a delightful way to wind down the day, and we might just do it again today. But before then, there is more mulch to be spread around here, plus pruning heathers & heaths, and more (isn't there always more?) weeding.

        Have a greta Sunday!

        Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

...jay//............after 9-break-ins in one year I got to know most of the local cops pretty well...

          the break-ins

stopped when I set traps in the store

(my brother and I used to Trap and Skin when we were kids)

          one of the cops

          asked me if

          they were booby-traps,

          I told him no,

they were ''take-em-alive'' traps, but I reserved to right to Skin anyone I caught

          haven't had a break-in since

..nothing takes the place of persistence.....

            TomW, you are so funny.

Holly, you are one amazing lady. Running 5 miles and working in the house and garden after a 50k. Impressive.

Jay, very cool garden installation. Our local Community Action Council, of which I am a board member and current board president, is starting an apple  bins gardening project. We get old apple bins from the orchadits and our volunteers teach people how to plant a garden. A very cool concept to help people get some fresh produce when they are on low budget.

Lovely spring morning here as well. My DH and I went for a 4 easy recovery run this morning. Legs are stiff, but no major ouchies after yesterday's marathon.

Speaking of veggie garden, it is time for me to replant a few veggies that did not come up.

            See you all later.

            Trails are hard!

              TW--sort of like this?

My 5 miles also felt slow and creaky, but I don't have a reasonable excuse like an ultra to blame it on.   I will, however, mention the fact that it was 77D when I got back, which is 20D warmer than my last run.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Good job Holly and Mariposai.  You are both tough to get out after big races and put some energy into things. I tend to mope around and sulk when I'm tired.

On the spur of the moment I went down to Las Colinas this morning and ran the Wounded Warrior tenK, my longest run since surgery.  Not very fast of course, at 1:07, just under 11 min/miles.  But excited to extend my long run distance. Huge race, several thousand runners, quite hilly.

Congrats to Holly, Posai and Ribs for his recovery 10K.  TW while biking I look like a xmas tree with screaming colors and blinking lights - the only drivers that miss me are busy texting!

Ran a half in Stumpy's HHH today with my DD and DIL.  It was awesome to run with them and they both did fine - I got a major PW and ended up in the med tent after - however OK now.  the weather reminded me of Great Bay except they didn't cancel.  This capped a w/e with GD running a kid's race on Friday and GD's dog and DS running a dog race on Saturday - the dog race was cut from 2 to 1 mile because of the heat.

here we are before (me, DIL, DD)   - there are no after fortunately!

Yowza Marj, glad you're ok. Besides you, who's who in the picture?

Holly and Mariposai do have a lot of energy. Holly, your MIL is lucky you're taking all those precautions. Remember the dander is spread around a lot from the cleaning activity, so it's actually worse the day after you clean. Airing out the house helps. I know all this from having allergic family members (in-laws), but I don't take much action. Maybe that's why we don't get many visitors.... And there's no way I'd wash my cats. The one would have bloody diarrhea for days from the stress, the other would take my arm off.

TW does crack me up. Glad to hear the catch-and-release traps worked. Interesting that the break-ins stopped after you told the cops about it....

I drank a lot of water and ate a big dinner, and am still down a pound this morning. So, will take it easy on today's run. All I "need" is 12 to hit 50 for the week, my early summer non-goal specific target. Since I'm running a marathon in mid-August, I probably ought to start thinking about a training plan of some sort, no?

Another nice sunny day here, although we did have some showers pass thru around 5:30 a.m. Love the smell of the air after the rain.

the local ''detectives'' locking me out of the store til 2-pm,

after a robbery ON MY DAY OFF

                      several

of them were arrested later in ''Operation Tarnished Shield''

we gave Max the cat a bath last week.

                        Very brave!!!

I don't blame you for you bike riding choice TW. Love your traps idea.My grandfather's pharmacy was robbed often. Ugh.

Still have mulch envy here Jay.I prefer to pick it up with a trailer and drive to where it needs to be spread. Lazy in my old age.

                        Your 10K is exciting Ribs.

                        Yikes Marj!

Tag and I waddled three miles. Well....He actually ran

3.7 miles run at cougar mountain with Remi.  I know 62F doesn't sound warm, but it was a bit drippy with the humidity and the dog and I were glad to cut the planned 5 miles a bit short.

Supposed to be working on presentation slides today, but it is just too nice outside, and I have a very solid aversion to working on the weekends which I guess is a reasonable thing.

Marj - glad you are ok!

Greetings!  Great job on the 50k, Holly!  and also to Mariposai on the Winthrop Marathon.  that is a really pretty area; we went there once to hike and bike after Dh had a work meeting in Seattle. You maniacs are tough, and rugged!

Warm day today! mid- 80s and partly sunny, and we have not had much warm weather lately.  I got out late ( we started watching the French Open Final after getting up late-ish) and ran and easy 10 on the rail trail. I was a bit creaky through the ankles-- but I had a great day yesterday, drove up north, hiked up and over Mt Adams and then visited DD at the hut where she is a caretaker. She is having a good summer so far.  I managed to hike with a half dozen fresh eggs  to deliver to DD, and they made it in one piece!  A small victory.

It is always nice to get out in the Northern Presidentials but it is not easy hiking. My heart is there, but some days even I curse the rocky trails!

And in other news, and perhaps a sign of my insanity, I signed up for the Vermont 50k...

                            SteveP

Tag got a new niece today. Her name is Marley. Honey loves her cousin. Tag doesn't Care for her so much.

                              SteveP

Lots of good racing this weekend. Nice longer run for Stumpy. Welcome to Fletch, the other new guy. I was looking at a race this fall in the Outer Banks, I think that would make a nice vacation.

I am pretty exhausted after having DD and her three kids her, Jackhenry, Mackenzie and Rockwell (Rocco), 5, 3 and 8 months. We finally got a pontoon ride for them today, yesterday was kinda crummy but we did go to the Y to swim. It is such a production to get everyone ready, pack all the stuff, buckle up, change clothes, go to the bathroom (again) the do it all in reverse. I don't remember it being like that when our kids were little. We just sent them outside to play in the sandbox or ride their big wheels on the sidewalk, and they did.

the next round of family starts arriving on Wednesday morning so we have time to change the sheets. ( does anyone every skip doing that between guests?) Maybe Leslie since she won't even wash her cats!

MrStarr and I went for a long walk with Bandit, then came home and got the other Dog, Smokey. Smokey is the lab, a hunting dog, so she gets to run, come, sit and stay to keep her sorta trained.  I took my road bike out for a spin around the lake For just the 2nd time. It felt a bit more comfortable but hurt like heck to get my leg over the bar. If my hip isn't better by Friday I think I may get that cortisone shot from the Ortho. We will see.

Now I have to go pick up toys and put all the right pieces with their mates. I don't like them all jumbled together.
