Christmas 12/25 Runs and Festivities (Read 39 times)

Marathon Maniac #957

    Merry Christmas!!

DD woke us all up at 6:15 to the sounds of "Here Comes Santa Claus" playing loudly on her boom box.  This may be the latest she has let us sleep in on Christmas, so I won't complain.

Store-bought cinnamon rolls in the oven, which is cheating, but this will allow me to get out for a run before settling down to cook the big meal that we traditionally have a lunchtime, rather than dinner.  Not too complicated this year, but I did try a new dish, Pumpkin Bread Pudding.  Looks like it will be lovely.

Enjoy the gift, my friends!  I am thankful for each and every one of you, and daily you bring me joy in many ways.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

      Mornin' everyone!

Enjoy the gift, my friends!  I am thankful for each and every one of you, and daily you bring me joy in many ways.

Holly, I'd like to borrow that sentiment and throw it right back at you, and to everyone else here too!

After cocktails and assorted cheeses yesterday evening, we had pan-seared sea scallops, and a melange of turnips, carrots and brussels sprouts in a bit of an apricot mustard sauce, followed by a fabulous GF chocolate cake from a local bakery. We started to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" in front of the fireplace, but we all seriously faded before we got half-way through. So we'll continue today.

I slept in till 4:45, and then headed out I went 7.95 racewalking miles. It was a refreshing 10F, with a -5 WC. I dressed well for the weather, and was fine except when I headed into the wind, which was making a lot of noise as it blasted through the trees from the NW. There was a gorgeous half moon; the ocean was quiet calm except for subtle ripples from the wind; and towering clouds on the horizon were back-lit by a sun that was working it's way up from the far side of the planet. Nice way to start the day.

Whatever you do today, I hope you have a greta Christmas day or Wednesday (your choice...).

Good morning all, and thanks for the well wishes. I confess I love those Pillsbury cinnamon buns but I suppose they aren't good for you. But hey, it's Christmas.  Mimosas in the morning are probably not good for you either but we're going to get started in a few minutes.

3 slow miles in the park today just to test my leg a bit more and stay out of trouble with Mustang Sally.

Have a wonderful day everyone.  Spareribs

          Mornin' everyone!

          Ditto!

Slightly higher temps here but the sun is out. I went for a brisk mile walk while Marj went for a short run. Yesterday my 5+ mile run brought back some knee pain- just walking today and a movie this afternoon.

Like Jay, we had pan-seared scallops and mustard baked cod last night-delicious.

Up early today to get in a run before our traditional Christmas breakfast with the kids. I thought about making it the more miles than degrees club but decided not to keep the french toast waiting.  7.2 miles in 10 F temp.

I was recovering from our 7 fish feast last night with lots of wine

It's OK to use the store bought rolls so you can get the run in Holly or at least we runners understand. Pumpkin bread pudding should more than make up for it anyway.

            Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Courage ! Do one brave thing today...then run like hell.

Weighed in at 139.8 this morning. Lowest I've weighed since I was 17 and a total weight loss of 85 pounds this year so far. So I am going off my diet today and I'm going to eat!

And I might avoid stepping on the scales tomorrow Smile

Happy running to all. I'm about to head out for a town run.

                I saw that.

Pillsbury rolls in the oven.  Momz and her partner are rummaging around downstairs, Boy is working until noon at the only Starbucks in town open on Christmas.  He will feel as rich as Croesus with that double-overtime in hand.  The artificial Christmas tree has mostly survived the kitten, although all the ornaments are all above waist height.  The dog appears to have recovered from eating all the Clif Bars and chocolate I set aside for stockings (which are now empty).  The Girl will come over mid-morning, but wanted to be sure her dad wasn't alone at Christmas, which makes me happy with the caring young woman she is becoming.  Mr Impossible and I have exchanged loving email and will chat on the phone later in the day.

None of these things resemble the family Christmas I imagined twenty years ago, but each in its own way is very well and good and I am contented and blessed this Christmas.

I'd penciled in a run today, but am thinking it may be a walk-around-on-the-waterfront-with-family day instead.

Happy Christmas and seasonal greetings to all of you.

                  Merry Christmas!!

                  Me too holly.  thanks.

The world's had way worse years of unspeakable atrocities but never has there seemed to have been such a steady stream of so many acts of evil.  Maybe it's just getting to know it all so much more quickly through the internet I'm finally thinking I'm getting to like after all. Without days like this though once-in-a-while, I'm not sure how those without loving families and buoying groups like this manage to survive.  maybe they don't.

Merry Christmas to my RA family.

MS, impressive bike ride on Sunday.  deez, nice 5K race with 2nd in AG.  Jay, sorry to hear about your wife's fall but glad to know she's ok.  Mike, what a fantastic picture of you and Ryan.  stumpy, I hope the tooth extration heals quickly and doesn't keep you from your goal.  Dave, you should make your goal.  Keep us posted.  Tramps, my best wishes to TriBee on resolving her back troubles.  ribs, I'm glad to hear your calf is ok.

Yesterday, I did 8 miles on the TM and we took off for our son's.  Last night the whole family was there for a nice meal and presents.  Today, our son and family got together with his in laws this morning and our daughter went to visit her boy friends's family.  This evening, we will be back together to be with our son's inlaws for more food and visiting.  Tomorrow, it will be back to our normal routine.

A good day and good runs for all.

                    Marathon Maniac #957

I managed 6 miles on the TM this morning, popping off periodically to take something out of the oven and put something else in.

DH had the idea of putting in family videos in the living room to watch, starting with our wedding and then various vacations and family events.  I loved watching my kiddos as little tykes.

Now we are all in a food coma and will soon watch a move (The World's End).  I love Simon Pegg.

IBleedUnionBlue - well done on the weight loss!  You deserve a break from the scale for the holidays.

                        Hi all,

What Holly said....I appreciate everyone here.

3 Remi miles on a path (4 runs in 5 days, legs feel that neat, slightly tired feeling, and I am starting to really look forward to my runs, maybe I becoming addicted again?).  It wasn't as quiet as I had hoped, lots of people out walking their dogs.  Then again, it isn't raining!! and partly sunny, a terrific day for a holiday.  I have SR's or is it Tammy's Artisan bread baking right now....yummmm

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

tetsujin209 the world is not as full of atrocities as the press makes out.  The evidence that death by violence is less likely now than ever before is pretty strong. So be of good cheer!

I am not Christian but my DW is and her family is over for dinner, which I cooked. It seems to have been a hit since their are few leftovers.  As to running when I got up it was 18 out so I decided it was an elliptical day. This way I can run tomorrow when it should be a bit warmer.

We indeed are having a peaceful Christmas day. Just the Easy Pacer, son Daniel and I. Our son David joined us via Skype for a few minutes, which was great.

10 snowy miles for me in perfect winter running condition. 29 and sunny.

Spareribs, mimosas for breakfast, that is the way to start the day out.

Holly, I like your breakfast idea. Cinnamon rolls, now that is one thing I have not made for years, I should one of these days. We normally have Eggnogg scone for breakfast.

Twocat, your guests are lucky to be invited at your table.

Mustang Sally's posts always make me smile. Enjoy your walk in the park. Will Mr. Impossible come to the Ave of the Giants gathering?

Now it is time to cook dinner. As per tradition we will sit at the table at 6pm.

Merry Christmas everybody!  No run for me, today--it's a scheduled day off...although, I do need to go and do my challenge exercises.  It's been--still is--a hectic, fun day.  The kids and grandkids are still over--we're playing Minute to Win it.  My kids are little competitive...

Okay--I gotta go--I have to do the Christmas Cliff Hanger...I'm going to crush them!

                              Brilliant

                                Merry Christmas!

I went out for an easy 4+ miles this morning while my hubby made breakfast.  Got home just in time to take a quick shower, and dig into the breakfast of banana-macademia-nut pancakes, and like Spareribs, mimosas!

Since then we've also had a Christmas turkey dinner, and will soon dig into pie.  I think I need another run!
