Turn Here
Bill, Learning the theory was the fun part for me. I'm not a great player by any stretch of the imagination but knowing what works and why can make up for alot.
Tramps.....I've often thought about how much weight I would gain if I ever stopped or backed off. I eat ALOT. And I like my beer.......You add up my swimming, biking, running.....commute to work etc I could probably account for 7000 calories. I don't know if my appetite would back off if my activity level was substantially decreased.....I'm afraid to find out !

Greta track shot there, Erika! We'll have to match you up against DaveinAA some time.
A continued very cool start to July, but that's good for us runners, right? Ran solo from home along the trail and through the park bottomlands for 8.1 miles at 9:44.
Hey, Tammy, speaking of drag racing, I had a guy I didn't know track me down in the Internet the other day and he sent me the below picture that I'd never seen before, taken 35 years ago. That's me on the left with actual hair (dark at that) and beard. This was taken in Cayuga, Ontario on one of our rare "glory days".
Have a good start to the holiday weekend, folks.

Roch, that's got to be the most entertaining picture I've seen all week. Why is that pretty girl wearing so little? I guess she has to wear that rug on her head to keep warm.

Photos:
First place: Erika with the Kim Novak look, running like a gazelle
Second place: Sorry Roch. Neat picture though.
Tim, I am not going to bother wishing you luck because the outcome is obvious. You will sail through this test.
5 easy for me. Went to bed last night at 9. I was super tired. And I am older than you by a lot Bill.
Nono, those kids had it right. Lookin' good. Spareribs
My Uterus Will Fall Out?
Erika - Nice pic!!
Nono - Those young chick ain't' got nothin' on you, honey. Way to make those guys take notice!
Rest day for me, from working out AND work. Very nice! Well, I'm off to do errands and check out the prices on Blueray players.
Later!

Doug.... besides the rug, think you could do a little more explaining here???
Tim that's great!
evan, that's a great picture of you in your mile race. nono, it sounds like you've still "got it". roch, that's a neat picture but I only noticed one person in it and I don't think it was you. bike, good news on passing the stress test with flying colors.
Good job on the speedwork, nono.
This morning, it was about 60° and there was some wind. I didn't feel like going out but was due for a long run so "kicked myself in the butt" and went out planning to go slow and hope I could get in my 12. I got myself far enough away from home that I would be at 12 when I got home and then did an extra 1.1 for a total of 13.1. It took about 2:12:30 for a 10:07 pace.
A good day and good runs for all.

Tramps, me too. The first thing I think about when I'm told to take time off for rehab is "Oh no! Time to hang up the ol' feed bag..." But if you work at the cross training, you should be ok.
Deb, you're funny! I do that too sometimes, especially when the sun hits the counter or stove at an angle I don't normally see (like when I'm home during the day), and I'm aghast at all the lint, gunk and just "stuff" you see that normally escapes detection. Then one thing leads to another and... well you know. Good progress on your running today, girl.
Roch, I thought that girl had a wig on at first, but then you said 35 years ago... and well, yep, I think that curly mophead look was popular back in the 70's. More detail on the event would be good, but you look great!
Karin, sorry you're Ms. Cranky Pants. I get that way from the weather blues, too. I'm certainly enjoying this stellar summer we're having because August is usually pretty wet around here. Lately it's been blue skies, sunshine and temps in the 70's and 80's. Rinse and repeat all weekend, too!
Nice half marathon today, Tom!
Thanks for the comments on my picture. I usually look horrible in my running shots. Sort of like "Gee, if it hurts that bad and she hates it so much, why does she do it?" But that was fun last night. I keep thinking I should've put on the jets a little sooner and I could've been sub-7. Official time was 7:02.8 and first in AG!
(and nah, dAAve would be all cooled down and changed into his sandals before I finished!)
More gardening on tap today. I might run a couple recovery miles later, but I might not. Nice to be able to say it's whatever I want to do... But need to get back on a schedule soon. Equinox is coming up mid-September! Definitely need more hills in my diet.
"Hey, 45! Looking goooooood." I laughed my head off at that!
We went to an outdoor street festival Wednesday night and I ordered a glass of wine from one of the vendors. There was a big sign "WE CARD EVERYONE" but she didn't ask to see my ID. When I asked her why she didn't check it, she said "because anyone who asks to be carded is probably just wishing they were young enough to have to worry about it."
Great picture, Erika - and I wish just once I'd get one of me with both feet off the ground!
Sorry, Roch. You may have hair on your picture, but Miss Gateway beats you by a mile! I haven't seen a hairdo like that since, well - the 70s.
Bill - have you mastered "Do you Feel Like We Do" by Peter Frampton yet? I've got that one in my mix on my Ipod. Love the guitar in that song.
Tim - Great news! You seem so at peace with the world right now. I hope everything falls into place for you.
5 miles this morning, 9:27 pace, then played 18 holes of golf. Now it's off to cut the grass. A beautiful summer day here in Wisconsin (sorry, Karin).
Enjoy your weekend everyone.
Good news on your test, Tim! Run with abandon!
I'm in humid NJ, at my in-laws' house. We did our final college tour yesterday at Princeton, so we have a few days to relax before flying home. I did a tired sweaty 5 miles this morning. Legs felt like lead after 5 days off, but I got it done.
Here's a race picture from the Slacker Half Marathon - both feet off the ground!
I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

OT, but since a couple of you asked for more details, it seems that I've lived a couple of different lives. In my mid to late 20s I was totally into drag racing, spending all my time outside of work (and all the money I made) on the sport. The car and event in the picture was literally the peak of our "career". Yes, I did the driving as well as most of the wrenching (wrenching, not wenching!), and the car took about 7 seconds to cover a quarter of a mile, crossing the finish line at about 200mph on a mix of methanol and nitromethane fuel.
Anyway, this particular event meant a lot because we actually had two trophy presentations that day: one for having the "Best Appearing Car" at the event, and the other when we won our elimination category.
Interestingly, this happened right at the end of May, 1975. About a week later my Dad died unexpectedly, and I think it really took the wind out of my competitive sails. By the end of the season I was ready to quit, we sold out what we had, and I never really looked back.
Within a year or so, I had also quit my job at General Motors and moved onto a completely different career path that ultimately led to meeting my DW and all of the other good things that have happened to me since.
So now you know the rest of the story. And thanks for asking, Deb.
Renee the dog
nono, it sounds like you've still "got it".
So many nice compliments, thank you folks! But to be clear, I never really "had it." I just hung onto what I had better than most, I guess.
Tim, thanks for sharing the results of your stress test. I'm so glad it went well.
Great photos today!

ROFLMAO! So true!
Biketm Great news!
I am officially back in CT. You know how I know? CNYrunner ought to know. When I turned on to the road my house is on I was greeted by a rain shower! Somebody moved Ireland to CT and forgot to tell all those involved. Will there ever be a single day this summer without rain here? Would a single cloud free day be too much to ask? The winter was horrible! It seems to me nature owes us some nice weather by now.
Live like you are dying not like you are afraid to die.
