Azelea Fest 5k (Read 9 times)

It's that time of year again. Pickens will be hosting the Azalea Fest, Saturday April 19th and along with it, the Pickens Women Assembly will be hosting a 5k. The proceeds of the event go to a good cause, The Beverly M Smith Scholarship Fund. This will be the 8th running of the event, and hopefully one of the best. The course has been held in several locations but this time it will be right down town. The course is challenging to say the least. Here is a preview I made. I broke my chain at mile 2 but with some fancy editing I'm hoping to show the entire route. Otherwise I will ride it again.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1mTD2dV9dU&feature=youtu.be

Let me know what you think.

The registration site should be up shortly but here is a link to the Azalea Fest website.

So did you get the approval to use catherine street?   I can still ask my father-in-law if needed although I dont know if it would do any good (florence st) . I am hesitant about "kiss-me-quick" hill lol. I like the video-it would inspire anyone to ride!

We are good with the route. The mayor has been very supportive of our efforts. This is the 1st 5k to be held in downtown Pickens and I really want it to be a success. Thanks for spelling out the name of the hill. I have heard people call it that but never asked to repeat what they were saying. Remember, hills make you stronger. I do my hill repeats there occasionally.

Oh, and the video came to an abrupt end when I broke my chain at mile 2. I was able to repair it and limp the rest of the way but I will make a new video at some point. I will level the camera a little better also

Only 3 weeks until the Azalea Fest 5k. Reviews of the course have consistantly described it as challenging. Don't forget to sign up. If we can get enough race team members to sign up, we will be able to negiciate a team discount for next year. Also keep in mind that the race team could use the same course later in the year to raise money for the Doodle Trail. It would be great if we could get sevelal hundred people to show up.
