I recently completed the 1/2 marathon in Providence and I've set my sights on running my first full marathon this Fall.
I am trying to choose between the Maine Marathon and the Newport Marathon. Also, considering the Cape Cod, Philly and Richmond marathons. All of these run between early October and late November.
I having a hard time deciding which would be the best for my first attempt.
Any advice and/or first hand info from anyone who has run any of these courses would be most welcome.
Gracias. : )

Yes, that helps.
But I am thinking about the MAINE not the MARINE Marathon.
I am also looking for intelligence on the courses themselves.
I believe some courses are better for first time marathoners than others -- or is that a myth in your opinion? Maybe if you have trained for the distance, hills and the like are less of factor???
Basically, I want to know as much as I can about the course I am training for and be confident that I am choosing a course that is appropriate for 1st time marathoners, not elite marathoners. if that prompts a response, please send it along.
Thanks so much!

Hey Jack,
Cape Cod is a good marathon, but the course isn't easy. Non-stop hills after mile 14, and wind.
I've run Philly twice. It's a good course, good crowd support in sections. Stretches of just running with no people, which I like. 6000 people or so. Some hills, but not too bad. Has been nice and cool each time I ran it, being in late November.
Go here: http://www.marathonguide.com/races/races.cfm
and you can read lots of opinions and reports from runners for each of the races you mentioned. You can also get information like how many runners, websites, etc. Just click on the link for the race.
Our website has quite a few marathon race reports as well under "Race Reports."

| I would run the Baystate Marathon,as it is fairly flat and a great Boston qualifier. |

Thanks for the tip about the Baystate Marathon. I hadn't heard of that one and I was able to find a site on it through Google. It looks like a good bet.
